Assuming everyone uses a one-handed weapon, off-hand weapon, and two-handed weapon, you need 1,500 Empyreal Fragments. Then there’s two underwater weapons. That’s 2,500 Empyreal Fragments.

The best way to get all of those fragments is dungeons. Each dungeon gives 20 Empyreal Fragments. That means all the ascended weapons require 125 dungeon runs. Assuming each dungeon run takes 15 minutes, that’s 31.5 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.

If someone wants to do it through jumping puzzles, it will take an average of 625 jumping puzzles to get 2,500 Empyreal Fragments. Assuming each jumping puzzle takes five minutes — a very generous estimate — that’s more than 52 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.

As a comparison, it takes 84 temple events to get 2,500 Dragonite Ore. That’s 21 hours of gameplay at most.

Is this intentional?

Colin Johanson to Eurogamer: “Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”

This is just ridiculous.

It would be nice if they could do something based on difficulty/length of the jp/dungeon. Right now doing a long jp to only get 2 fragments is totally not worth it.

I assume they wanted something to be somewhat harder to get compared to the others.

Just pick a couple jp/dungeons you like running that are easy and do them every day. What I’ve been doing and if I get 2 from everything it’ll only take me a week (I do about 13 jp), I only need 3 stars left for the first weapon.

Also the random guarded chests by veterans can drop them too. Like the veteran chest in Wayfarers and the Bandit Hideout chest in Queensdale. I’m sure there are more chests, but I haven’t bothered to look them up. I know the super small ones like the ones guarded by the jotun in the potato farm in Wayfarer don’t drop them though.

Gee, I’ve gotten all mine from all those little chests in places like Wayfarer, and such. Just doing what I always do. You don’t have to do dungeons or jumping puzzles, if you’d rather not. It may not be the fastest way to acquire them, but I’m not going out of my way, either. They drop from just about any chest in the open world.

I am not sure how killing a level 10 Veteran for 2 fragments takes longer, than a jumping puzzle, but….ok. There are 5 chests, I believe, in Wayfarer’s alone. Still, pick your poison, it’s up to you.

I suppose if you do nothing but farm any item in the game, you could make a chart of how much time it might take. My point was you can pick up these items as you play normally, without going out of your way, especially. No real extra time needed. If farming them is your preferred playstyle, I say: More power to ya! Just remember, it’s not a race for everyone that plays; some like to play the game in a kind of well-rounded manner, for lack of a better term. =)

There are 5 non jumping puzzle related chests in Queensdale that can be run in a loop that takes less than 10 minutes once you know where they are. You can get these chests once a day for each character on your account. Each time I run the loop I’ve gotten between 14 to 18 fragments per character. This is an easier grind than dungeons or jp’s for the time invested and I suggest you look into it.

Locations

Vale Waypoint – Directly north under one of the harpy trees

Crossing Waypoint – North in a small cave full of wolves

Ojon’s Lumbermill Waypoint – Head north into the bandit cave. It’s near a vet bomber.

Tunwatch Redoubt Waypoint – Go south to the Clifwatch Camp poi and it’s in a tamini tent guarded by a vet.

Righteous Hoofmoot/Demongrub Pits – Enter the pits and head left to the NPC. Jump past her to the ledge with the spiders. The chest is in webs along the wall. (also Demongrub Pits is a quick easy jp you can also do to get another chest for even more fragments but you don’t have to do the jp to get the chest listed here)

I do this daily as well and my stock of these items are going up fast enough for me. TBH I think soon enough I will have to start using up normal bank slots for them and then will worry that I have too many lol.

Btw there are 2 more chests in the actual JP. The other one is just past the bats and skelk when you first start jumping on the jumping stones. That makes a total of 7 chests in Queensdale alone.

There’s a bit of a grind with the other ingredients, but at least they’re a bit easier/quicker to obtain.

20-30 dragonite per temple/dragon/golem and other daily bosses I’m missing. That means that if I do a few temples, I can usually make at least one dragonite ingot.

Bloodstone Dust is even easier. Yes, it does require farming some champions, but on the bright side, Scarlet Invasions are still happening which is a great champion farm for even casual players. Even without that, one can head to Queensdale and get quite a few champions there. Or you just make sure to kill some champions during the temple and other various events. Still a lot easier than the shards.

Considering these are all account bound materials, I just don’t see why they would restrict people so much. I figured the time gated recipes would be the main hurdle to an ascended weapon, but it’s going to take me much longer to gather the shards for the crystal. I really don’t want to have to park characters at a jumping puzzle just to make sure I’m getting a few a day.

ROFL, when i see this QQ, I must seriously doubt, that certain people must have never heard something about LONG TERM MOTIVATION

These items and all their required materials are intentionally designed extra therfore, that not every 0815-noob gamer just will have all these items a couple days after the patch release already.

These items are the highest powerful items of the whole game, these items aren’t be made to get extremly quick. These items are designed for partient players which slowly work towards their goals, like working for a legendary weapon, as the ascendant weapons are itentionally designed to be basically the “bridge” between exotic items and legendary items …

31h of gameplay is absolutely not much, this is peanuts..
I would understand this complain, if gettign all these items qould require like a month of gameplay or so, as that would be really too much to get just 1 single character geared fully, as that would be absolutely again a middle finger towards all those people, which play with multiple characters…

125 Dungeon runs.. when you make like 2-3 runs a day thats then just 41 days, so a month and nearly 2 weeks, but doing 2-3 dungeon runs a day doesn’t require 24h beign ingame to do that…
What I meant with a month of gameplay is that if something requires you to play a game for like 30*24hours to aqquire something in the game, what would really be too much where I could understand then the complaint.

As nehezbegar says, if you do naturally more runs a day, it significantly decreases the required maximum time. 5 runs a day and you will need only 25 days basically within the time that you need to do these 5 runs and 5 runs don’t require 24h, 5 runs should be done in like just a few hours based on with dungeon paths you make…

Cof 1, the svanir dungeon paths all 3 are easy, thats already 4 runs and say for example ascalon path 1… Do this with a guild group that plays well to gether, skip as much enemies a possible and so on and you should be real fast in doing the 5 runs a day if not even more…

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

You are severely overestimating the typical player, even the typical hardcore player, if you think five dungeon runs a day is normal. Even two or three is unreasonable, especially in the context that these runs are required.

It would be one thing if this game’s dungeons were fun. But, by ArenaNet’s own admission, the dungeons are terribly designed and mindless.

Anyway, my guess is Empyreal Fragment drops get buffed soon. It’s just too difficult to come by them right now.

I think the sad thing about all this is that people will probably finally get their ascended after all this hard work and then BANG Anet drops the crafting precursor thing on us and everyone will have to start all over again for their legendary.

So I guess some people may just want to reconsider if it’s worth bothering with this now. They did say that we will get this new option to get precursors (if it be craft of not yet is still to be decided) before the end of the year which is not too long.
