Guild Wars 2

It’s no secret gw2 includes references and …borrowings.. from various sci fi and fantasy shows and games, and we love that. Here’s one that hasn’t been done yet and I think it would work well in the gw2 world. I’ll leave it to you to guess the source.

Imagine, if you will, that there’s an Asura structure somewhere where they’ve been experimenting with zero gravity. For some or other reason, it’s been converted into an arena and now players get to fly around in it, battling each other and scoring by capturing ..uh.. gates. Maybe players would use some kind of weapon bundle when playing in this arena, possibly some kind of stun weapon or something. Kind of like a gentle pvp area.

There’s hardly any work required. We already have underwater physics. This would be the same, except there’s no water. This could be placed in Rata Novus somewhere. Maybe it’s a new chamber you discover. Or maybe it could work as a fractal. Or just a mini-game/adventure. Or maybe it should be another pvp map. Just some ideas.

Enders game i am assuming, tho they could not use the water physics or animations
with it would not look right at all would be just swimming in the air .. def not the same as no gravity they could tweak it sure but the animations … they would have to make all new ones for every one for something that maybe no one would use . See underwater combat

Maybe if there teams was bigger we could do fun stuff like this but as it as now i rather they use the time for a good s3 with tuns of armors so so that was left out of hot

Yes, Ender’s Game.

But we’re not talking realistic 3d zero-gravity. As in, being able to rotate the view or float upside down. That would be amazing but realistically, for a start, the underwater model without water will do just fine. Or, alternatively, keep the water. A battle room underwater would work fine too. Since they’re apparently working on more underwater combat anyway, they might have already planned something like this.

Aren’t the elder dragons effectively a reference in the sense that their existence falls under the same overarching theme of “Everything else can go to hell as long as you reach your win condition.”?

I’m…. not sure what that means. I assumed they’re a reference to H.P.Lovecraft’s ‘Elder Gods’, sort of.

As I reading this I thought of Ender’s Game as well.

I loved Ender’s Game. The whole series, actually, until it started getting silly with the story of Bean, etc.. so I guess I’d really stop at the 4th book, Children of the Mind.

They could expand on your idea and make a race of Sylvari much like the Pequeninos third life. Well wait, we already have the Mother Tree. I’ve not delved too much into GW2 lore (I know some folks really know the lore, I don’t), but she is somewhat similar if I get the gist, right? Hive Queen mind’ish, but stationary?

For those of us who don’t delve into the lore for various reasons, this kind of idea you’ve brought to the table is great. It brings elements we might be familiar with, and this is something I’d really like to see!
