Endgame cosmetics: Player/Dev disconnect?

In general, yes. Most of the armor looks really bad. It is very unfortunate.
I’m not really a fan of the majority of armor in this game. Male armor versions that is.
Don’t know if this is sad or not, but I can count on one hand how many heavy boots I like…all of which can’t be used with the very few leggings I like.
The armor sets of GW1 was actually one of the reasons I chose to play GW2. Armor sets are always 1/3 of the reason I play any MMO with the other 2 being decent enough PvE and PvP. Doesn’t have to be stellar, it just has to be entertaining enough to hold my attention. PvE and PvP so far has held my attention, but the armor sets for the most part have been a huge let down as far as hitting upon points I like.
I am thinking they should start designing sets more with classes in mind and go from there. I will say that I like most of the gem armors or pieces of them. There just aren’t that many sets in game that scream I must have them. Certainly very few that fit my idea of each class. None of the sets here shout the word iconic in comparison to the plethora of MMO’s on the market. IMO ofc.
I don’t like most of the new armor….hardly any of it. I’m sure someone must, but I do have to say, it saves me a lot of money on gems. lol
I agree with you for the most part, but when the Phalanx heavy set came out, what I was saving for human cultural tier 3 was spent on gems to buy Phalanx instead.

OP, yes you are correct in general about the nature of dev’s not being able to connect with (the majority of) players.
Regarding the feathered armour, yes it’s quite sad. It’s based on a pre-existing skin (again) and for gems that you’d have to fork out for this armour, I’d have thought they would have gone back to the drawing board and started from scratch, considering the amount of QQ’ing uproar generally heard about this. To base it on yet another armour (whether it was popular in the game or not) is purely farcicle. I can see why some people want their gems back.

Not luck and credit cards.”

it should be existing armor because the medium and heavy are, it would almost be even more insulting if they remade just the light version into something custom
it is pretty scummy to just release retextures for gems like that anyway though
In GW, the devs made armor sets for each campaign and for the EotN expansion. Once the campaign/expansion launched, I don’ recall any armor sets being added. Weapon skins were added from time to time. The only change to this model was cosmetic looks (worn over armor) being added as store items.
In GW2, we’ve got basically the same thing. The only variations are that some weapon skins are available in the store (some via RNG) and Ascended armor was added and those had skins.
So, the devs used the same general model, but made changes in how the skins are acquired and how they’re used (transform crystals versus a look slot). This leads me to believe that we are unlikely to see new armor skins outside of the gem store.
