Open your OPTIONS. Click the CONTROL OPTIONS tab on the left side (the little mouse icon). Scroll down to the TARGETING section.

There are 3 key-bindable options there that I use all the time. They are:

  • Nearest Enemy
  • Next Enemy
  • Previous Enemy

What do these three have in common?

ENEMY

Enemies are defined as creatures with RED text overhead. YELLOW text denotes a NEUTRAL target.

When they get the current targeting bug fixed, it would be nice if they obeyed their own definitions and only targeted ENEMIES. I have no animosity towards a cart, especially when a monster is charging me.

Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm all day.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

I have always thought that ALL yellow mobs should be select only for targeting. Your “auto target” should NEVER select a yellow mob. EVER.

the enemies are the objects (Objects from a design PoV, not literally inanimate objects) that interact with both auto attackin and skills from the player.

Just because an enemy object isn’t automatically aggressive doesn’t mean it’s not an enemy.

Though in my experience, tab target seems to be related to distance from the camera, rather than distance from your character with regards to selecting the closest first, which should probably be changed
