So I spent the last 20 minutes fighting a champion in Queensdale alone (champion boar) and just when I was about to defeat it it simply turned it’s back and got his health fully restored! Since this is not the first time I see enemies simply restore their health in the game I now have a question for the developers or whoever is responsible for designing the gameplay of Guild Wars 2.

On multiple occasions (including your Manifesto) you claim that your game will offer experienced players the possibility to engage in more difficult and challenging fights. I personally consider fighting a champion alone to be such thing. Now do you honestly think that its fair to fight an enemy for 20 minutes and just when its supposed to go down you game simply restores it’s health? I figured out that the health restoring process is triggered when a certain zone around the champ’s initial location is left but even if that’s the case how am I as a player supposed to know where that boundary lies? There are no borders on the map which indicate the zone in which players have to stay during fights in order to avoid triggering the enemy health restoration.

Is this intended behavior and if yes I would like to hear an explanation why is this happening. To be honest I don’t like these kind of restrictions. Not one bit. First you took from us the ability to knock down enemies from heights yet the enemy will be more than happy (and capable) to do so when its given the chance. Then you introduced the fact that players can’t shoot at enemies if there is a difference in terrain elevation which results in the infamous “Invulnerable” messages. For a game that claims to offer so much freedom GW2 sure has a lot of gameplay restrictions like these.

This has happened to me several times. I think it’s a bug, but I don’t know what triggers it specifically. I notice it when kiting the mob and running / dodging circles around it to keep my health up. The last time I this happened that I distinctly remember was during an event at the sylvari location in Kessex Hills where the swamp is poisoned (sorry, the name escapes me). There was a veteran mob that attacked and I almost won except that he ran back and regenerated.

This is pretty much the same thing as the Invulnerable thing. Basically they added a range limit so that a monster wont chase you forever if you don’t want to fight it. Seems like you just ran too far from the Boar’s spawn point.

All I can suggest is to next time try and kite around it in a circle or just stand there and absorb the blows if you can (I can solo this Boar pretty easy and it takes no longer than 5 mins to die for me just standing still).

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Mobs have a leash and if they stray to far from their point, they effectively leash and reset back (sometimes this can be interrupted). If not you could effectively pull a mob across the map. It can be a bit silly at times and absolutely kill your progress, but I think its a necessary evil of sorts. As previously mentioned, I highly recommend the circle kite around the mob which will minimalize the chance of leashing if you don’t circle too largely.

Not sure the specifics of the leash….but I’ve had some pretty bad situations where a mob or boss leashed and ruined all progress for what seemed no reason other than the leash

It’s gotta be a bug Paulyntz, here’s why I think so. In my case the NPC was attacking the sylvari outpost at Lynchcroft Mere (I looked it up), just north of the waypoint across the swamp. It’s a fairly small outpost and I stayed inside the event zone the whole time. I had to defend it from waves of undead, and that boss was part of the last wave.

Edit: If it’s a leash, then it’s too short :P

I saw this behavior in the “Defeat the Risen Worshipers in King’s Passage” event. The Champion uses the new Risen Noble Mechanics. Its target would try to get away from the incessant teleport-symbol-pull/knockdown spam with each symbol tick doing 2-4K health. The mob would follow, so would the other players. Then it would leash, regenerating quickly to full.

This may be a “necessary evil.” However, if the mob is getting out-of-combat regen, why are the players still in combat? If it is truly leashing, why does it get to its leash area, then turn right around and come back? My money’s on a “necessary” mechanic with some bugs.

happens if you leave the area of the fight. You keep retreating, it resets. Nothing unusual. You would have to come up with real proof otherwise.
