Hey guys , i just recently started playing and i decide to start with an engineer, so far I’ve already gotten him to lvl 80 , and tbh I’ve gotten pretty bored of him sometimes( many times) which leads me to want to make an alt. I do have a lvl 20 scroll because i had this acc since release, but i stopped playing when my first char got to lvl 23 guardian. So my question is what profession would you suggest as an alt for engineer , below i’ll state what I’ve liked and disliked about the class.

Like
-Mobility, speedy kits made world discovery that much better.
-Healing turrent ( basically the one thing that makes me feel useful)
-versatility
Dislike
- spamming grenades
-lack of weapons
-i feel like if i do kitten dmg compared to other class
-armor look so bad on my asura engineer ( like really bad)
- i felt so under powered leveling, and i still feel under powered at lvl 80 ( maybe im doing something wrong?)

I mostly play pve , but i’d like to get into pvp later on , any suggestions?

First tip is not to make a class to play PvP with. I have a 9th Character slot with a character who gets constantly deleted to reroll to X profession so I can play Asura.

Nothing in the game is versatile, btw, not even Engineer. Every class is funneled into just a handful of builds, most being 2 or 3, unless you opt for a terrible “play how you want” build (a la dual pistol thief, FT Engie, Staff Mesmer).

I’d go with Ele. Everybody likes a good Ele. Your kits are your attunements, very mobile, light armor looks generally B.A. and the play how you want builds are actually pretty fun. Only issue is lack of weapon choice again.

Eles and mesmers and guardians are fun. I have a few 80s, and decided to build a tiny asura warrior. Hilarious fun, imo……and speedy for world exploration, too.(maybe it’s just his tiny size that makes him seem speedy…..I don’t know, as other larger class warriors are plodding slugs….lol)

Plus you can use several different weapon sets, and you’re really durable with tons of damage.

And don’t listen to those here that say you can only do a few builds in each class to be viable. “Play how you want” is a very valid way to approach the game, as you can always respec if you want to with very little trouble.

Best of luck!

I have 2 Engineers and I love the class to bits.

From what you say, I would suggest an Elementalist- keep in mind that they are very fragile and the attunements take some getting used to- similar to Engi kits.

Mesmer is great fun and very versatile but lacks out of combat mobility

I think you should try warrior or elementalist. Elementalist have lack of always equipped weapons but they have attunement swaps and utility weapons so overall not so bad.

Personally, I love my engineer. So it’s hard for me to understand your lack of love for yours. But I’ll try to help just the same…

As much as it pains me to say it: Warrior.

Warrior offers high damage, versatility and weapon variety, plenty of mobility, and less dependent on traits whilst leveling. I will say though, that I find warrior to be a bit boring. Yes, there’s plenty of weapon variety, so you can change things up often. But the actual playstyle is straight-forward and unimaginative.

I’ll also recommend Mesmer. True, roaming speed isn’t great. There’s little swiftness uptime and no speed signet. But, Mesmer offers dynamic play, good group utility, weapon variety, & high combat mobility. One drawback is that Mesmer is quite trait dependent, so leveling may feel like a chore until mid-way. But that’s just how leveling is with Anet’s latest trait changes (don’t get me started).

Guardian is another class, like Mesmer, that has no on-demand speed boost. But its group support is unparalleled and it can maintain high damage with good survivability. And similar to warrior, has plenty of weapon variety.
