I know there are builds that claim to be the best Dps build for Pve, but what i get confused about is exactly how do they know that it is generating the best Dps?

Is there a tool in the game that i never knew about, because the only way i can estimate my dps is the good old fashion “How long does it take for that health bar to disappear.” Great for trying out burst, but what if a guild isn’t strong in burst but rather in sustain damage, that if given a minute or so, can generate the same average Dps as the burst?

I love making builds and playing about with different concepts, but i never know if i can making a build it’s most efficient. How is it done?

People ahve looked at their combat log, calculated the coefficients of the attacks and figured out the formulas for damage. They then do rotations and calculate the time it takes to do different attacks and combinations of attacks. They throw all that information into a well built spreadsheet, and play around with it till they find an optimized answer.

So basically most of the work is done with just good ol’ maths and is heavily focused on the theoretical. Then you take that and analyze the practical and argue with people about it

I am confused on this too, as the class’s rotation could finish very quickly and leave the rest of the battle with low damage autos… I’m wondering, what time do they measure it over?

There actually are several DPS meters available, so I was assuming that’s how at least some of the DPS calculations were done

They count how fast they can kill a boss/group of mobs. Let’s say you’re in AC and the meta to a kill a boss there is 15 seconds and it takes 25 seconds to kill the boss, someone is going to get kicked. Sadly, that is how the berserker meta works nowadays.

6 months ago people were happy if you killed a boss within 1 minute.

Yeah we’ve had several people code add-ons that can efficiently calculate party DPS and such.

Dub from the dungeons/fractals forum and frifox are the main two that I know of.

Aye for sure, DPS meters exist now, just saying, that I’m pretty sure how it started was the analysis and maths. DPS meters are here now though and can aid in testing.

As for kicking if you take too long on a boss… depends on who you’re with. Personally I haven’t had bad experiences like that very often, I’ve actually never been kicked (knock on wood) but I’ve seen many kicked and it does bug me a bit, though I changed my grouping habits and I almost never see it now. Though I do leave some groups sometimes when they do silly stuff like pulling Nokk down the ramp when you have not just 1 but 2-3 guards in the group >.<

Total damage shown in the log divided by total time of the log. It is almost that simple. The only other thing to remember is that the accuracy of your measurement depends upon (a) making sure your total time is long enough to include several elites and their cool downs, (b) the situation you are measuring in is representative of real game play; i.e., hitting a dummy does not count because the dummy does not fight back, dodge, or counter your skills.

After that, it’s just tedious adding the damage taken and received for several minutes of play for a comparison of your dps versus an opponent’s dps.
