I recently crafted Eternity, and it was my understanding that, in addition to adding some flashiness to the footprints and whatnot, the skin would show like Sunrise during the daytime and Twilight during the night. But all I ever see is the Sunrise colors on the blade and handle, day or night.

Is this a glitch, or was I mistaken about how it was supposed to look, and it’s working as intended?

Since no one has answered you, I’ll start.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eternity
Eternity is a greatsword whose appearance switches between Sunrise and Twilight depending on the time of day. Additionally, the pommel of Eternity consists of a multicolored gem which emanates a bright glow.

Without a screenshot or knowing what happened what does it say when you mouse over it, Eternity or Sunrise? If it says Eternity and you’re sure it’s not switching maybe use a couple of Transmutation charges to switch it to something else then back to Eternity. If it still doesn’t change depending on the time you might contact support.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I’ll keep watching it, and thank you for the transmutation idea. I played a good long time in the open world at night on several occasions (which is easy to keep track of because I’m playing a half-naked Sylvari so I’m always looking at my glowy bits) and I’m sure it was showing just Sunrise. I switched to WvW and it displayed correctly. But I’m going to double check in the open world again to make sure I wasn’t mistaken or it wasn’t that 5 minute time period between day and night where it counts as day but looks like night, etc.

Thanks again!

Also keep in mind that in terms of cycles, the game considers Dawn and Dusk to be part of day time and not night. Thus, every day cycle will be 80 minutes day time and 40 minutes night time.

Although your surroundings and even your character might look like it is night time it may actually be considered day time. The best way to find out for sure is to go into a dungeon or fractal that is static night time or go to Verdant Brink during night time events (To make sure that it is night time). If it doesn’t change to Twilight then you have an issue. If it does then you’re just missing night time in open world.

I’ve had Eternity for a few years now and I can tell you in open world I rarely ever see it in Twilight form. This is because the game in open world is 2/3 day time every 2 hours so it’s very easy to miss night time.

If you continue to have issue, you could try a -repair of the client, in case of corrupted file(s). Instructions found in the Knowledge Base accessed via the ‘Support’ link above/below and ‘Search – Repair’.

Good luck.

Okay, so I noticed it again in Sparkfly Fen today. I got there when it was daytime, and it transitioned to night while I was there waiting for Tequatl. It’s definitely nighttime, per wiki, and I waited a good fifteen minutes to see if it would shift, and it did not. Do you have to change maps to make it shift skins? If so, that’s really lame.

You don’t need to change maps to make the skin change. Eternity works just like the weapons from Ascalon Catacombs.

At dusk, you should notice the footprints and aura change to the nighttime version, and finally, at night, the blade changes. Incidentally, I transmuted my eternity to an Ascalon Catacombs GS. That one transitions fine…I’ll have to transmute it back and see if anything is weird.

The footsteps are changing just fine, just not the blade. At least, the Sunrise version doesn’t become the Twilight version. The Twilight version goes to Sunrise like it’s supposed to.

That’s weird. I just swapped back to my eternity skin to check it out, and It changed from day to night just fine. No map swapping or anything.

Your statements are a bit confusing. Your first post says it never changes from Sunrise to Twilight (in other words it’s fixed at Sunrise and unchanging) and now you say it does correctly change from Twilight to Sunrise, which means it’s changing sometimes and therefore sometimes switches from Sunrise to Twilight.

Perhaps, it’s only in WvW, as stated above.

If it’s only in WvW then that sounds like either a bug or corrupted data. In that case it’s either doing a client repair as stated above or contacting support to discuss it with them.

Indeed. Hopefully a -repair or the CS Team will help.

Each subsequent response is adding information I didn’t have at the time of the OP, as I continued to look into the problem.

At the time of my first post, I had yet to see the Twilight skin. After I made the post, I tried WvW, which showed Twilight correctly. I did not notice a problem again (as someone pointed out, it’s daytime so much in game that it’s not always testable for nighttime) until today. Today, in Sparkfly Fen, the skin did not change from Sunrise to Twilight in spite of being nighttime for a full fifteen or twenty minutes as I was watching. This prompted me to make another response, with the images. I then participated in the Tequatl event, and when that was over (still with Sunrise skin), I mapped to Mount Maelstrom. Upon appearing in the new map, I had the Twilight skin (correctly). I ran around for a while and ended up doing the Megadestroyer event, around which time the skin returned to Sunrise again (on schedule, I believe). Does this make sense now?

(I’ve put in a bug report.)

A Bug Report won’t really help if it’s only happening on your client.

You might consider a -repair to the client, or discussing the issue with the CS Team.

Good luck.

Well, it sounds like a support ticket or a client repair are your best options, seeing as it’s not a problem reported by other people.
