Event icon on map but no event in world
I have seen that happening for weeks, I just ignore them now and use chat instead.
The event icon on the map may mark where a rift can open up.

It’s almost always a Rift event. Grab a Stabilizer and rack up credit for events for Map Rewards and Dailies, etc.!

I noticed that disappearing events before and that was Ley line anomaly http://dulfy.net/2016/06/28/gw2-ley-line-anomaly-current-event-guide/ But I thought this one ended.
The Rift event looks a bit complicated, will have to give it some second chance.

There’s also one in Divinity’s Reach, which only shows up if you have the content guide turned on. I think that’s a bug with the guide.

The Rift events are not complicated, at all. Press 1, then click the purple icons until all are swirls. No mobs involved, whatsoever. It’s basically free XP, Gold and Karma, and Map Rewards.
