I will start with a quote from the new achievement stuff explained: " Every point that you’ve earned while adventuring across Tyria will count towards exciting rewards"
So Anet said there will be tiers. But how can every point count if there will be achievement tiers? In the end we will use the points like 200 or 350 or whatever any other number to buy stuff like we do with laurels? Each point you earned can’t matter if you have like a 1k,2k,3k,4k tiers….And I have for example 4300 achievement points and the tier is for 4k. The 300 points rest are useless? I don’t get it. Anet could explain a bit more of this plz? There update is tomorrow and want to know how the stuff will work. Or people may start to use their achievement points in a bad way meaning in a not so profitable way for them. How that every point counts work ? People said that we wont buy stuff with points but what Anet says ?
Cheers
Daniel

My understanding is that you won’t buy stuff, you’ll unlock stuff. If you have 4k achievement points, your account will have unlocked the rewards for all tiers up to and including the 4k rewards. You keep the points though, you don’t trade them for the rewards, you simply get access to the rewards. And as far as every point counting, those 300 extra points you have beyond 4k certainly do help you as they bring you closer to 5k and the 5k achievement tier rewards. Make sense?

The 300 points are useful in that they bring you closer to 4500 for the next reward. See Dulffy’s guide here about how the system will work.

Why does everyone think the achievement points will work like currency…
It makes zero sense and anet even stated you unlock stuff with AP, not buy it.

So there will be only tier from 500 and up. So not every ap point you have is so important as they made it appear. Thanks guys, the guide is good too

everyone point you get puts you 1 point closer to the next tier. Every point counts for the same amount, thus every point is equally important.

It’s simply really. Every achievement point counts.

Let’s say you want 1000 achievement points and you currently have 100. You need 900 more to reach your goal.

You do some obscure achievement that gives you 1 pont, and now you need 899.

I think what they meant by every achievement point counting is that your total would include all the achievements you’ve gotten so far and any that are added in the future. It won’t be like the Dragon Bash meta-achievement (and some others) where only certain achievements counted towards it and others were ignored.

They’re obviously not going to give you a reward for every single point, but they won’t be ‘wasted’ either. If you have 4,300 points and unlock a reward at 4000 you don’t lose the last 300, they count towards unlocking something at 4,500 or 5000.

Because Anet are deciding both how many achievement points we can earn and what the rewards cost they can make sure the two match up exactly, just like they did with the Hall of Monuments – we need 50 points to get everything there and we can earn a maximum of 50.
