Everything in GW2 is a bit too nice
Turns out that Zhaitan was the good guy, and we were actually destroying his plans to kill all undead and restore Orr. The current Orr looks is the result of that. Had we lost, Orr would look much more like miami.
I think it was ok, could have used a twist or 10. I do love twists. (See Castle)
But keep in mind the living story is an extension of that story as well, and brings new “bad guys” in at a pretty amazing pace. And at this rate hopefully we will see quite a few twists and turns in the stories.

It does lack narrative punch. And Zhaitan has close to zero personality, I feel like I’m railing against a door beam more than a significant evil.
And the living story…oh gods. When you have to explain who or what the main antagonist of the chapter is on the forums or what their motivations are or where they came from (seriously…where the frak did Canach come from, wtf are his motivations, where the frak is the backstory IN GAME?) it’s pure fail. It’s not Living Story so much as Living comeoverhereandlookwhatwedidlookatthemagicfindbonusWOW! edit: Which is nice and all, grats for doing something with Southsun seriously, but compelling story it ain’t.

The current living story has a good bit of “true” evil like. On the lines of the chose to help is causing pain. I just think ppl are way too use to the fairly tail type of evil no one set out to do evil but they tend to become “evil” by trying to get there view out there by any means.

There’s a question – how do you give an elder dragon personality when even in GW1 it was stated that elder dragons are so powerful that they don’t care about speaking with humans and can wipe full races in a flick of a tail if they feel like it?
Now to the OP:
About the other dragons – they will come with expansions. Don’t try to complete a full MMO in a year
Canach’s backstory came from the original Southsun event last year in which he was part of a small scavenger hunt quest line which bugged out heavily and a ton of people weren’t able to complete.
Of course after the few days that his lore was available were over anyone who hadn’t met him wouldn’t have a clue who he was or what his motivations were.
And if like me you missed the final part of Flame and Frost where he was reintroduced, you feel very in the dark.
I don’t think the Elder Dragons are a BAD evil, their influence over Tyria is massive, you can’t say that Zhaitan, Jormag, Kralk and Primordius aren’t evil when their minions can be found in a whole lot of zones. But I agree that they themselves don’t feel like much of a threat.
At least in GW1 Prophecies the Lich popped up quite a few times and had an evolving character >.>

I think other dragons would definitely make a better story. They influence lands that are populated with people. Orr, on the other hand, is all dead and sank before Zhaiten even awake.

You give it personality by it’s subordinates. It’s very possible to have a huge, faceless, overwhelming evil and still have antagonists that have personality and charm, by introducing a face to that evil. Something they tried and didn’t follow through with. Mostly it’s because the personal story is such a rush job. If I had spent time with the proverbial sacrifice of my personal story from the beginning of the game, maybe I would have muttered more than a “meh” at their passing.
I’ve seen good storytelling in games, and this ain’t it. WoW is far from the epitome of narrative, but Arthas stomps Zhaitan any day of the week. And Arthas was a subordinate.
Edit: And his story was told IN FREAKING GAME. Learn a lesson Anet.
