My own fault I admit it up front. Earlier today I saw a cool dagger called Corrupted Shard. So I went to gw2db.com to check out possible other daggers that might have the same skin. I found 6! So naturally I hit up the Bazaar and found two Shaman Etched daggers for 1g a pop. Needless to say those daggers DO NOT share the same graphic. Like I said I take the blame but if any of you skin hunters out there use some sort of database, be warned.

It would be GREAT to have a preview option in the Bazaar.

Hear hear! I’m always lookin’ ta expand my wardrobe, but without seein’ what I’m buyin’ ahead ah time I’m pretty out of luck in the bizarre.

I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

I heartily endorse this message. It’s a real pain in the gluteus maximus to have to go hunt through Google to find a decent view of the armor or weapon you’re interested in, and the in-game icons are hopelessly generic. Add my vote for a preview option in the Trading Post!

I had this issue with an axe, nice look in the database, but when I bought it, it shows up as an ugly “standard” axe.
Since this when I want to see how an item from the TP looks like, I go first here http://www.gw2spidy.com/searchform to search the item, on mouseover the item ID appears and this I enter here http://streamchan.com/gw2id.html
Submit and c/p the cryptic result from the second field into the chat line (whisper to yourself to not confuse others too much), where you can r-click and preview it.

There are websites you can go to that let you get the item code corresponding to the item you want to see. When you then paste that code in-game chat, you can right click and get the preview option.

GW2Spidy, for example, gives me this code [&AgGsAQAA] for a Rampagers Acolyte Coat. I don’t know how much those databases are supported or tolerated by ANet, cuz it seems like they use reverse-engineering on the game code, or perhaps they receive the code from the developers.

Anywho… tools exist to preview trading post items, just not without going out of game.

See the post above mine, Aelia describes the procedure.

There is no reverse engineering of any code going on. If that were true and this quick we would have a somewhat working emulator by now. What they do is extract all data from the database with a program written to be compatible with the databases format and compression/encryption.

Most likely those sites are still using a pre-release set.

You do know you can hold Ctrl+right click i believe to preview weapons and armor on your char, from the TP or vendors.

Not on TP.

And no ctrl needed on vendors.

SoE have finally been knocked off the top spot
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!

Yea you can just click on a linked item and hit preview or ctrl click, And I WISH there was a TP preview option hehe. I believe I saw a dev post a while back that said they were possibly working on it? Not sure

http://www.gw2spidy.com/ now has the item ID code listed as “in game” when you click on a specific item.

Copy the code and paste it in in game chat to see the real model. The database has a lot of errors, I stopped using it a while ago.
