Exotic and legendary weapons perform the same
The misconception is in interpreting what ‘gap’ actually means- its a gap in effort/time/finances, not strength.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!

Indeed. If any gap had to be filled, it was a rarity gap and NOT a stat gap. People need to see that this particular justification for increased stats is BS.

I know, but people are justifying the stat gap that is being introduced using the current effort gap. One gap is being filled but simultaneously another one is being created. It make’s no sense.

So let’s add a stat gap because there is an effort gap? EDIT- Should say time gap. That makes 0 sense.
(edited by cschwartzy.5360)
And adding Ascended actually widens the effort gap, because now there’s another tier to work on.
This “gap” excuse is pretty lame. Adding stats is not necessary for filling up such a gap. Adding content is what is necessary.

There are already items in the game that fill this gap, do you have Jormag’s Breath or Foefire’s Power? Look up these weapons and you’ll see they’re in between basic exotics and legendaries.

From what i gathered, Ascended armor will replace exotics as the new cap standard, and they will not be releasing new tiers(probably more like adding in extra infusions to combat specific enemy types) and as they see the limited scope of Exotic gear and its overall use in pve they can boost stats on the “new standard” and then never again.

if you say you’ll never do something,
and then do it,
what kind of person does it make me if I believe you when you immediately say you’ll never do that exact same thing again?

no, they only said they will not be adding new tiers every 3 months , they never said they wont do it ever again!.

This pretty much. I’m sorry I just don’t believe them anymore.
The thing about it being an “effort gap:”
Yes. Legendaries are hard to get. But they aren’t better weapons. Adding another rarity above Exotic then, is a waste of time. If you’re grinding a weapon or armor for its look or rarity and it has the same stats as Exotic, why would you waste your time on that new rarity? In fact, why even waste time on exotics? Just farm the legendaries, if they’re easier to obtain. Even if they aren’t, if Ascendent has the same stat values as Exotics, who would bother wasting time on them? Hence why I’m sure they felt the need to ruin the game by vomiting this new rarity into the mix.
It seems like exotics are just the new rares, and will be obsoleted in a few months because ANet retroactively decided people were getting them too easily, and they didn’t like that at all. Which is especially funny in a Guild Wars game, where you had your face shoved into a max stat vendor area as soon as you hit max level, to make sure you were completely outfitted for the rest of the game. In GW1, achieving max stats was never important. In GW2, it’s now the dev’s primary obsession.

well the games been out only about three months, and if taken in context i think he used it simply as a refference point to the concept many people have of this supposed encroaching “gear treadmill”

there is no need to inflate stats, not now, not in 6 months, if they are doing this now, they will have the same motives to do it again in X months

possibly, but who knows? maybe the infaltion of stats was to pull a little more cash shop money out of stat progressioners?
and they’ll certainly never ever do it again in three months from now when it’s convenient to do so again to avoid the effort of following through with their previously stated intentions based on player feedback less than a year after saying they’d never do it at all. PROMISE!
There are a disturbingly large number of people who think that atm legendaries have better stats than exotics. This thread is worth it just to correct them.

and they assume everything will be just like it was in WoW
soon they might be right :\

Another thing to consider:
With the current setup, you can get a legendary and assign whatever stat allocation to it you want. Just use a transmutation stone.
By throwing up another tier, you can’t do that unless you lower the weapon’s power. That means that either a) some builds will be favored by having legendaries that complement them perfectly, while others will be disadvantaged or b) it now takes twice as long to get the legendary you really want, because you have to grind twice; once for the stat, the second for the skin.
Way to “fix” things.

i dont see this as an issue if they claim they are updating legendarries to be on par with Ascended gear.

Right now, if I decide I want to change the stats on my weapon, I can spend a couple gold, tops, craft what I want, and transmute. In the future if I want to change the stats on my weapon, I get to grind for the right Ascended piece. Yeah, no issue here.

Well it wouldn’t be an issue if they also updated Exotics to be on par with Ascended gear.
Half the posts concerning legendaries is that other than the skin, the grind to get them is downright brutal and useless.
Legendaries should be better than you can outright buy on the TP for 1 gold, but should be inline with top end gear drops.
I think ascended fills that gap quite nicely. You still have to work for the gear and it will take effort, but that effort is paid off.

I agree. I felt exotic gear was far too easy to obtain.
And adding Ascended actually widens the effort gap, because now there’s another tier to work on.
I think that may be the point. Legendaries were intended to be very long term goals that took legendary effort. People got to the point where they were ready to start on that journey (and many finished it) far faster than ANet anticipated. I’m guessing that screwed up their long term goal for the game, so they are trying to fix it.

I could see this being rather true. I think the other end of the of the stick is that many players felt they had nothing else to work for. Legendaries were so far off and away from what many would want to go through to obtain. So, adding something in between is rather nice. I now have something I want to work towards.
But there is no effort gap, unless you forget the existence of every single Exotic that isn’t a crafted Pearl weapon. Exotics already cover the spectrum from Crafted pieces worth only 1-3g to dozens of ‘cool but attainable’ weapons in the 5g to 15g range, entire sets of weapons that linger in the 30g and the 60g range, along with a healthy number of Exotics that are worth 100-300g (note: I don’t mean precursors), and even a few that are worth upward of 500-600g.
Legendary weapons start in at about 800-1000g, and ArenaNet has already said that they’ll be taking steps to keep Legendary costs from spiraling too far out of control.
So where’s the gap, again?
Dear Chris Whiteside,
Firstly, thank you for the attempt at clarification on the current events surrounding our game. I say attempt because, contrary to your desires, the message you’ve left us with actually created more questions. Not the least of which is that if Legendary Gear posses the same statistics as the current max-level gear then what need was there to add a new tier of gear between those two and increase the power of the Legendary weapons to this previously non-existent tier?
Asended Weapons are just gonna be better then legendairies.
And adding Ascended actually widens the effort gap, because now there’s another tier to work on.

Any veteran of MMOs knows that when a dev predicts a time until the first x, they need to half it to get what will really happen. There will always people that will spend every hour of the day to get something as fast as possible, trying to appease these people is a losing battle.
