Expand Weapons To Other Professions.
I really really want to be optimistic and believe that such things are in the pipeline, I’ve been wanting more weapon variety in the classes for nearly a year now. But the truth is we’re now 2 years in and all we’ve gotten are new healing skills and a handful of new traits.
I don’t mean to be pessimistic, I’d love new weapons for all professions, new skills, anything to shake up the basic gameplay and open up new builds and strategies. It’s just that I’m getting a bit tired of waiting for it.
I feel the same, trust me but sometimes i want to believe that they are really working on it. I personally don’t care about new races or other things, i would be really happy with weapons being expanded to other professions since that will give a new fresh experience for many of us and would open a lot of diversity when it comes to builds etc etc.
Honestly I’d like Thief to get Rifle to shoot like a sniper, or greatsword and fight more duelist than berserker.
And I don’t see why Engineers don’t have hammers, it makes no sense!
This is what I have wanted the most ever since they first announced they were planning it around a year ago. My main is a Guard and I find that already (compared to other professions) there is quite a limited selection of weapons available, even more so when you think that some of them are largely ineffective.
Guardians NEED some effective ranged weapons. The sceptre is just not viable as a weapon, it can only really supplement a good melee weapon. We need a ranged weapon that can hold its own. This is especially true as a WvW player, we pretty much have to zerg or get kited with our mobility rates
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Ranger with Rifle is what I’m hoping for, or Ranger with two swords
i want off-hand mace/sword axe and rework shield for guard

You think guardian has it bad, I SO want to play with something other than dual daggers in duels for Elementalists. I SO want to pair something else with a focus other than dagger or scepter. I SO want something more ‘target’ long-ranged focused that isn’t weak-kitten staff (staff’s ‘target’ skills are slower, it shines in AoE). I tend to basically flip flop between staff, d/d, s/f and d/f and that’s being GENEROUS because that’s nearly all the combos available (I don’t like the feel of s/d…that’s the last of the available combos).
Currently, I’m more or less a ghost in the game. I took a year break to handle rl stuff and came back, had some fun but kinda sorta just waiting on the next big thing to hit GW2. I really do want this game to add more stuff because I love the way this game handles its races. In other games, most races seem very similar to which you might as well just make them all one race with some customization options. This game, the races look quite different (even Norn). Adding more weapons would be amazing for keeping me entertained for a long time. No, it wouldn’t solve all the games’ problems forever but it’ll dang rekindle that fire for quite a few players across all gameplay modes for quite a time (possibly a whole year even!).
If I were pie-in-the-sky’ing this kitten, the way I would do this:
Year-1(current)
- 2-3 weapons proliferated to each class.
- 1 new weapon and/or 1 proliferated aquatic weapon for each class.
- A list of new traits for these weapons added.
- Complete living story. Maybe start another set of living story.
- By the end of the year/beginning of next year 1 new race (Tengu!)
Year-2
- 2 new weapons added/more proliferated among class.
- Expand content to new areas.
New Aquatic Weapon:
- Net- could be control heavy, movement related or possibly area denial depending what a class needs.
For the classes: should aim to give around 2 full skill-bars worth of new skills (10 skills) per profession.
Guardian – I don’t play guardian very much so not sure some of the things it needs.
- Shortbow, a long-ranged weapon focused on good ‘target’ damage but very telegraphed as well.
- Warhorn-off, a more selfish support weapon that provides blocks and boons.
- Dagger-main, a very close ranged weapon with a bit more movement and perhaps a teleport skill.
Warrior – A bit tough since it has most applicable weapons. I’d almost just suggest not giving them a new weapon but instead add to their profession mechanic. Give them a special F2 skill that depends what they have equipped in the main-hand of their weapon swap. Would require 7 new skills.
- Torch-off, could be a defensive weapon aimed to protect from conditions and provide self-boons…think lighting yourself on fire (take periodic damage) so that you are immune to burning, chill, torment, confusion, fear while also applying burning with your attacks. (2 more skills)
Thief – For them, I’d probably aim to add 2 new weapons; a 2-handed weapon and either a main or an off.
- Rifle, Easy choice, IMO.
- ???, Seems like a toss up to me between either Mace-main/off, Axe-off or Sword-off. I’d imagine Axe-off could be a strong burster but taxing on the initiative while mace would be very control heavy (of course) but predictable.
Ranger- Easy choices for me.
- Staff, Not a melee weapon. A ranged support weapon used to channel nature and spirits with. Would be great if the last spirit channel it could use to aid teammates depended on the type of pet you used.
- Hammer, Never played GW1 but I hear the hammer was a good weapon and eager to see how it would transfer to GW2.
Engineer- I would like some melee for engi.
- Mace-main/off, a defensive melee option.
- Hammer, an offensive melee option with a bit of movement.
Necromancer- …I don’t really play necromancer. Not for lack of desire, but it’s really the last leg of the game for me to explore so saving it and guardian. Needless to say, not sure what most necros want…but I think they should get 4 weapons.
- Axe-off, I’d imagine a support off-hand that adds a self-mark that gives allies immunity to conditions for a time and provides boons depending on how many conditions you have.
- Torch-off, some control through daze and/or blowout.
- Shield-off, maybe a masochistic weapon that grants life force for being hit as well as a block.
- Greatsword, a cleaving melee weapon primarily for defense and sharing conditions.
Mesmer- A lot of options and anything would be great for adding to mesmer so I’ll just pick a few. 3 weapons.
- Pistol-main, easy choice. Probably mid-range/on the shorter-end of range.
- Dagger-main/off, long-range dodgy weapon. Not too much damage but a means to stay alive when people close in.
- Shortbow, AoE mid-range weapon or something.
Elementalist- A lot of possibilities too but requires so many skills…2 weapons.
- Sword-main or-off, either would be swell, with off-hand maybe being a new movement-type weapon option or main-hand being a very close range offensive option.
- Longbow, my all-time fav suggestion. Make it long range and ST focused with some control mixed in to help keep enemies away.
Release method can even be slowly, releasing 2 every month with some traits applied in the middle. I’d guarantee you, players would be on the edge of their chairs every other week to find out what’s the next proliferation or traits lined up for the next update, hotjoin PvP will be bustling at people test out their dueling skills with the new stuff or how old stuff counters some new stuff, WvW would feel unpredictable (well, hopefully if they tone down some of the zerg-mentality) metas would be born and killed left and right, PvE would surge as people roll alts of stuff they don’t have to try out the new goodies and traits. Man, it’d be a dream…
Very true Leo, it would revive a lot of excitement on many veteran players and new players alike, let’s just hope they are working on that, i have a feeling that we will see something great in 2015, something many of us veterans have been waiting for a long time. I know there will be something similar to an expansion, same purpose of providing great amounts of content but in a different way, a way that goes best for Guild Wars 2. I know it’s going to be awesome, everyone will love it! call me a little over optimistic but i feel like it’s gonna happen.
I would love to See Rangers use Rifle, and Pistols.
Come on ArenaNet! RANGERS! =D
I heartily agree with maces as an engineer weapon!

Asuran Mesmer Mind Tricks: “These aren’t the golems you’re looking for.”
I agree and believe we all deserve new weapons and skills but honestly I don’t see that happening anytime soon with the pace this game is going. Maybe when pigs fly we will get what majority of the guild wars community truly wants
More than anything (on the subject of new weapons for professions we already have), I want engineers to be able to use hammers. Then I want them to be able to use maces. I also think they should be able to use torches.
Thieves with rifles and sword off-hand are my next wish.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
I would absolutely kill to have a melee weapon for Engineers.. anything but a mace. Never been a fan of maces. And agreed with others.. not a kit. An actual weapon.
if they come out with new weapons after black desert online is released
it will be so sad
it will be tough for me to keep up support
I’d love to see every Profession be able to use any weapon. A Thief with a Staff could be like Gambit from the X-Men. Or, how about an Ice Bow / Longbow Elementalist? This could open up the door for a lot of interesting combos.
1. Ranger with Staff. HELL NO!! Give us our rifle, take it away from warrior.
2. Guardian with a Longbow. Negative, also take it away from warrior(warriors are melee)
3. Necro with with a Greatsword. No.
4. Mesmers with Double Pistols. Ok possible
5. Engineer with a melee weapon (a true melee weapon, not a kit)

Thief with rifle would be nice. Thief with greatsword would be awkward. The Asssassin/Stealth/Ninja archetype rarely uses large bulky weapons*. Off-hand sword though (dualwielding katana isn’t uncommon) would be a logical addition.
*Well, if you include all of the Ninjutsu skills, a few of them do take advantage of two-handed weapons such as a spear, staff, etc.

I think the only problem with staff as a melee weapon is that most staves aren’t designed to be used that way in-game. They pretty much all are unbalanced and look more like they’d be wielded as clubs than staves. Then there’s the animations required for them, a staff is wielded very differently from anything we currently used.

1. No one’s taking anything from anyone. Period. Rifle on Ranger wouldn’t be bad though, just not what I’d personally want first. Ranger already has good long-range options for both power and condition damage as well as decent AoE. Not sure what Rifle would really add unless it was turned into a mid-range buckshot type weapon which I still don’t think is needed since Axe sort of fills that role. On the other hand, Ranger doesn’t have a good support weapon…
2. Again, no one’s taking anything from anyone. Guardian currently has weak range so a new ranged weapon besides scepter would be good. It doesn’t have to be powerful, just longer range than scepter with decent yet telegraphed attacks. I’d still keep range as one of Guardian’s weaknesses but the idea of proliferating weapons is to give EVERYONE options, not just more ranged options to ranged focus classes…that’d only over-saturate current options. It’d be like giving Warriors only melee weapons that all did the same thing as Greatsword. What’s the point of even giving the options? Just give them skins in that case!
3. I think it’s a bit of a stretch, but then so is Greatsword for Mesmer and yet it took a completely unorthodox method and I feel it works as a ranged weapon for them. A greatsword for Necro focused mainly on defense would be something unique since GS tends to be an offensive weapon for everyone else.
4&5. Yup, it’s a long standing request that I agree with. But for Mesmer, I’d personally want main-hand torch more than main-hand pistol especially if it turned out to be more defensive yet carry similar conditions as scepter.
Nothing will come out of this thread lol, but ok, I’ll bite;
- Thieves shouldn’t have greateswords. Can you stealth with a surfboard?
- Mesmers have butterflies. Why-o-why not my-little-pony shortbows?
- Guardians should have dual shields. Because. Yes.
- Rangers won’t have guns/riffles because we have engineers.
And besides, Legolas did not use gunpowder! - Engineers won’t have bows because we have rangers.
Wood + string is not mechanic, it’s “nature”. - Warriors NEED to hold dual Eternities.
- Ele on lightning aura with dual Bolts would be too epic. We can’t have that.
BTW, will a character holding two warhorns hyperventilate and die?
yes my main is a ranger
… I … just … so …… wow really? o_o
