Hi, I’m GW veteran I’ve just noticed that expansion will be paid, and it feels shame that we have all this awesome weapons depended on Black Lion keys which are huge RNG gambling. We barely have any trading between players, we barely can unlock anything awesome outside of GEM store, every 2nd thing is account or soulbound..

I’ve spend nice ammount of gems to support Arena net, and i’ve bought them only because i’ve thought expansion will be free. So i wanted to support them on some way. But now that i’ve realized that expansion is pay to play, i feel scammed for what i’ve “donated” to Arena net.

I expect A LOT more “unlock through playing” and not “through GEM store” content in new expansion ( referring to weapons/armours )

My gaming experience when I’ve shifting from GW1 to GW2 went down for 50%…

If I decide to buy HoT, i expect less JUNK clicking lootbags, less account bounded items that i could trade/share with guildies, friends other players.

2,5years after release of original GW2, we still have no GvG… and no announcement for when we will get something to involve guilds in pvp ( stronghold is nothing near GvG).. I hope you guys upgrade pvp & wvw. Now is the right moment to get some deserved attention and respect to pvp / wvw players.

This account bound stuff is making players selfish and learning NOT to share things.

• People should understand difference between, i bought gems just to support anet in order because gw2 team said once u buy game, further expansions will be free. I bought gems to show respect, not because i wanted something.*

• Eye of the North was paid expansion like any other map, content was HUGE, and u got all weapons and armours free, in GW2 gem store delivers all awesome looking weapon skins through gem store (tickets > black lion keys/chests ).. while in Eye of the north u could unlock everything through playing the game which made every expansion interesting.. i like to do things for reward, not for story.. could not care less for story living story or what ever kind of story.*

You didn’t need anything you bought from the gem store, you wanted it. If you want to play Hot you need to buy it. Charging for major expansions have always been the norm.

A word of advice:

Do not look upon money spent in the gem store as a, “donation.” I can assure you that Anet/NCSoft does not see it that way.

If there is something that you want from the gem store, or if you want to convert real money into gold, then go ahead and buy some gems. Otherwise hold on to your money.

Unlikely. We will probably see very few skins available in the game through normal play. ArenaNet has to keep the art team making more skins for the Gem Shop, and between selling you a $40 expansion with 6 armor designs or a $40 expansion with 1 armor design, well, guess what’s more profitable for them?

And if that’s all i get, it will be first and last expansion of GW2 that i will purchase, and shift to another game, after playing gw for 9 years, i really dont want to but, there is nothing else to say on that i guess… 40€ is way to much for:
- new legendary
- 1 new pvp map
- masteries
- specialization
- and small piece of maguuma forest….
- plus.. probably junk LS again which is worthless to me(if LS was like episode 8, then i would love LS, but other 7 episodes were disaster..)

Good luck with those other games. Most of them are either subscription which is $15 a month AND you pay for expansions, or free to play and then the cash shop is tons greedier.

Now that Sony sold out SOE to an investment firm, I expect that EQ Next is going to have real issues, so where are you going to go?

ESO is going BTP which for a lot of people puts it on the market for the first time (people who refused the sub from the get-go), and for people that played it at launch an awful lot of the bugs that forced people to leave have been fixed (plus consoles, some of us want to get back to console gaming in some form or other).

However releasing a full priced expansion and only offering 1 set (meaning 1 light, 1 med, and 1 heavy) of in game earned gear would be marketing suicide.

I had a lot invested in Rift up front, and I walked away. Having stuff invested isn’t going to stop me from walking away.

When SWToR went from subscription to free to play, their cash shop strategy changed. They became massively greedy. If you think it’s not going to happen with ESO, that’s okay with me. People who are used to this cash shop are not going to accept that cash shop. Games with “optional” subscriptions that aren’t optional aren’t new. And they won’t be a threat to this game.

ESO, the part I played of it anyway, is generic. I can’t personally deal with the quest system again and a lot of others can’t either. It didn’t go free to play because it was a raving success. And it’ll go free to play the way SWToR does.

Anet will sell the expansion to a million or two people and that’ll be fine. That’s what they need. And there’s no guarantee the people going to ESO won’t come back and buy it. Because I know a lot of people who left for ESO/Wildstar/Archeage that are back playing every day again.

It’s easy to say a game will draw people from this one. And some people may leave. And as many people will probably come back.

A) This is GW2 and not GW1 2.0. 2.5 years into the game it is about time a whole lot of you realize that.

B) This game has been advertised as B2P, so I don’t see why people are upset when they are asked to pay for an expansion.

C) Even with the box prices for game and expansion added (and we don’t know the target price for the expansion yet) it is a lot of gaming fun for your coin. If you don’t feel like that, then of course you are free to do whatever you think your money is better spent on. I for myself have 2.6k+ hours of gameplay for the box price and a few gem purchases here and there and neither a sub-based game nor a f2p game would have given me that value for the money. I’ve been there, so I know.

Where did you get the idea that the Gw2 Expansion was going to be free?

the Gem store is not a donation service and never has been so if you’ve been foolishly throwing money in there as donations then honestly that’s really stupid on your part..

I have spent a lot of money on the Gem store these last couple of years (very likely more than most people) because there is more often than not.. something I really want..
account upgrades, skins, minipets.. etc

I have no problem with paying for a full expansion.. specially if the content we get is big enough to warrent the price to which so far its looking like it will be..

as for the gem store skins.. if you want them that badly then buy them on the Trading post..
I only had 1 black Lion claim ticket and I’ve managed to buy 4 Crimson Lion skins all together..
if you don’t have the gold for that then buy some gems.. convert it to gold and then buy the skins
it’s not that hard and if you’ve been willing to ‘donate’ soo much money to them in the past then this should not be a problem for you if you wanted those skins that badly

just about the only thing I agree with you on is having more unlockable by playing skins.. everything else more or less i disagree with completely

While i get what you’re saying regarding the lack of skins/weapons earned through actual gameplay (which has been sorely lacking as well as noted many times on these boards), the idea that you paid gems for things hoping an xpac was free was a touch foolish. Technically you were paying for the Anet team to build an xpac during that time if anything. Getting to play it would still require purchase however.

Now things that can still be up for debate would be if Anet, say, tried charging a full 50-60 dollars for this xpac. I think (personally) that for what they’ve shown that this price point would fall a bit on the silly side, but once again that would be a debateable topic in these forums and elsewhere.

As for the GvG stuff, there seems to be an even 50/50 split on that front so once again, debateable but to say outright that its not true GvG is more opinion than fact.

The’ve yet to talk about the WvW update so we can’t speak to that.

At the end of the day though you can always choose to speak with your wallet by not buying gems as I have since April of 2014 if you’d like while debating the things you see coming and what you might like to see done differently. It might not amount to much or maybe enough people will join in your chorus. Who knows.
