While my characters are low levels and I don’t play as much as I would like particularly because I have no friends to play with. Although i had one of my friends try the game with the free to play model. He likes the game, but he also plays WoW. while i have told him that GW2 doesn’t have a subscription fee, he has pointed out that WoW has the ability to pay for his subscription with gold using special tokens someone else buys and sells on the auction house.

While we have no sub fee I feel that to benefit both the developers and people who love the game but can’t pay for it easily should allow the gold to gem exchange to Free players at a restricted level of 300 gems may be bought per day. Also allow players to pay for the game and expansions using gems. The upgrade path is as follows free to play, then you you buy the core game first. After this you would buy each Expansion individually.

This benefits players who really want the expansion but may not have the means to upgrade. Also it benefits new free players that if they like the game they can pay for it with gold but it will take awhile also. It benefits you, arena net, as you will grow your community further and you shouldn’t loose money because people will always have to purchase gems to exchange.

This is my idea for furthering the community, and making the game more accessible to more people. Feel free to discuss with me your thoughts and opinions.

ANet isn’t going to make the expansion available for gems, because it means a 40-60% loss of income for them. Right now, people pay for gems and pay for the game; in the proposed scenario, people would stop paying for the game and just buy gems.

People who can’t afford to upgrade will just have to wait until one of the official retailers offers HoT for a price closer to what they can afford.

WoW uses a different income model and so can choose to afford alternative methods to encourage people to sign up for full subscriptions.
