Are we going to have to pay for them? Or are the gem sales going to cover it?

I don’t mind paying for them so long as the problems in the first GW2 is fixed and that the content of the expansion is as vast as GW1’s.

Id guess pay, but you could probably trade gold for gems and buy if you had enough gold.

Huh? why would you pay? I thought the whole point of letting people “cheat” by buying gold with real money was that the rest of us legit players would benefit from them developing the game with that money. I cant accept a game that lest people get ahead by paying with real money AND want me to spend real money to play the content. Thats not going to work for me, good luck to Anet with that one.

Before I buy an expansion I would want to see what we get over the coming months. After all were we not promised an expansions worth of free content between January and March 2013? I recall ANet saying it would rvial subs paying expansion in size and scope.

It’s an expansion of course they would want money for it. I won’t mind paying.

I’d expect official expansions to be paid. I think of an expansion as different from an update to the living story. An expansion would include new races, new weapons and skills, new storylines, new map areas, new aspects of game mechanics. That’s a lot of work. IMO income from the gem store is meant to cover major patch content (ie the living story). Official expansions are a bigger undertaking and I wouldn’t resent them being B2P at all.

And that’s why casual people hate elitist jerks. I pay for your game. A minimum of respect would be appreciated.

I’m not cheating and you’re not playing legit.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

To skip past the stupid that this thread has decided to catch with its wide net.

My guess would be expansions would be real money and a Gem option down the line. Since we dont pay for Monthly subscriptions to pay for server costs and such and Anet is reliant on new purchases of the game or gem purchases with money for such.

You are cheating, youre paying to get ahead, its like a sport where youd pay the referees for more points instead of scoring yourself. And youre not paying for my game, i already bought the game. What youre paying for is cheating. Anet can pocket that money or give fund development. Its up to them. If they pocket it and want me to play with cheaters, forget it. Why do you think F2P games with cash shops dont charge ANYTHING, this game want to charge me for a box, let cheaters into the game, and want me to pay more? no thanks.

This person is cray cray, it’s not as if paying for buying a new game or new game content is something new and unheard of. It’s kind of obvious, where the heck are they supposed to find the money to develop the new expansion if they don’t charge for the new expansion?

People keep talking as if having to pay for things is this horrible evil phenomenon, it’s a natural part of life. You pay for EVERYTHING, you pay for so many things you hate paying for every day, why don’t you feel proud about paying to help support something you truly like and believe in?

When Anet releases new shop items bought with gems usually I use actual money to buy those things because I wanna give them my support. After all there’s no subscription to this game, they deserve it. It’s like an investment in something you really love, and I love this game.

I’m going to have to go with C; Tosha.

While I can rationalize some of the sentiments, exchanging gems for gold is in some cases the only way for smaller guilds to keep up with larger ones.

But that’s just one example.

I pay for expansions on the non subscription games I enjoy. Having enjoyed GW2 immensely for the past several months I would gladly pay for an expansion (in real life money).
