Could we get an official answer whether expansion content will be available to buy for gems, or only for RL money? Considering the fast rise of gem price in past days, and no sight of an end to it, it is an important question – should we stock up on gems now, while we can, or don’t bother?

I can see them being bought expansion boxes. Just like how new expansions were released for GW1. Simply go out and buy the expansion is the way I see them going.

And I am sure they would be priced less than $60.

However you can buy Digital Deluxe for gems.. could be the same applies to expansions.

Read again, he talked of free AND paid content.

I will be very surprised if we are going to be able to buy expansions with gems. That would mean ArenaNet/NCsoft would lose a huge amount of income, as we would be able to spend ingame gold to get expansions. We are already going to get new events and other big updates for free.

Not really, since gems have to be bought and traded for gold by someone first. When you buy Gems (or sell gems) the currency you get for the exchange isn’t created, it is taken from other players.

Unless gems becomes largely sold out, and people decides to wait until they can get more gems with gold, instead of spending real money on gems themselves. A big income now, is always better then a small income over time. Time = money.

Expansions are expansive by nature, and the devs and parent company will need to be paid for their time. I doubt gems would allow you purchase of a full expansion.

I really don’t know about gemes as payment for an expansion. It’s a F2P game, so I would expect expansions to cost real money.
The game doe’s mainly get initial funding during the release, so I think ANet would need some extra money to continue developing the game

Um…? Can you clarify this? I didn’t see that Anet had changed their Gem prices… I am showing the same cost as when the game was released.

I expect that they will appear in the gemstore too. Maybe not right away (retailers might agree ), but later on anyway.

Yes I was talking about the gem price in gold, it fell from the peek of 410 gems for 1g to ~180gems for 1g now. And no I don’t need an expansion now, but people should know the answer to my question asap, before 1 gem = 1 gold and it’s too late. But of course I realize we won’t get an official answer, since if ANet answers ’yes you will be able to buy expansions with gems", everyone would just buy a ton of gems right now, and ANet would loose a pile of cash. Oh well, secrecy it is. Myself I decided to risk it and bought 14k gems with all my gold right now, just in case.
