Is it just me or is anyone running into where someone runs ahead to open the door before a good part of the zerg can even fight their way there? Then there are the special kind of people who open both doors at once when there are 2 next to each other.

Is there some achievement I do not know about for being the first one to open a door?

Zerg doesn’t own the map. If people want to solo doors they’re allowed to.

It’s not like there’s a shortage of doors in the lab.

Some players just want to watch the world burn.

In seriousness, though, it’s usually pretty harmless. Some people just get excited and rush to the door, then fling it open as soon as they get there, without thinking, “Well, if I wait, the rest of the zerg can catch up and more people can tag it.” No big deal.

How does opening 2 doors at once help anyone at all? A lot of people that would be helping are suddenly dealing with the other thing instead.

As to a shortage … maybe not if there are a dozen players in the labyrinth. If there are a lot of people in the instance (so a door can go fast) the zerg spends a lot of time just farming random mobs waiting for a door that is not the lich.

Personally, I find two doors at once, close to each other, exciting.

It’s not the logical thing to do, and I’ve cautioned people about opening both doors near the Viscount, but it’s not the logical part of me that wants to rush headlong into a horde of enemies. It’s still fun, and people are going to do it. Some might do it to spite the zerg, but I imagine most just do it because it’s fun, and they’re not thinking about optimization.

I am not talking about optimization. I am talking about doing something that is fun for you at the expense of other people when you know that will be the result.

A lot of people are doing the lab for the first time this year, and may not get onto an organised map at first, so they don’t realise there’s a system. Add to that the fact that even on organised maps no one explains the ‘rules’.

Put all of that together and it’s not at all surprising that some people don’t realise there’s any kind of system in place and are simply running around doing what they can.

Every door but the Lich’s is soloable, so I’d wager folks opening doors in other locations are just doing their thing, farming ToT bags, rather than any kind of malicious messing with others in there.

As to opening two next to one another, that’s not so bad, unless you’re fighting the Viscount, and it’s still manageable with a group. I’d chalk that up to naivety first, then f’in with the zerg second :P

Plus, after a while running round at the back of the zerg you kinda want to be the one to open the door for a change.l;p

Probably the very same person who opened the doors. They nerfed the Time it takes for doors to open. so lol no shortage. A person who opens it solo is just an kitten or a troll. There is literally no reason to open by yourself. You also get less loots, as less mobs will spawn. The whole point of the labyrinth for what its worth, is team effort.

I think people who haven’t played it the year before may not know the ‘etiquette’ but it can be kind of funny – last night we got to the place where the Viscount Candy Corn spawns – he arrived someone opened the two doors that were also there then the Horror turned up…

Fun times! lol

I’ve seen some people claim that opening both doors helps with the Viscount. I know the enemies will fight each other, but I’m unconvinced it makes enough of a difference to justify the extra hassle.

Maybe I’m weird though because I actually enjoy it when we’re fighting the Viscount and the Horror turns up. If most people know what to do Viscount is fairly simple and a bit slow, the Horror adds some variety. At first everyone panics, but once people calm down (and if people have the sense to rally people who are downed instead of afking to shout at them in chat) it’s not much harder and IMO quite a fun fight because there’s more going on.

Less mobs spawn with a solo door, true. But not everyone has an uber AoE / DPS build that can get maximum lootz from zerg events. Some players will get more loot despite less mobs because they actually get a chance to tag all of them as opposed to a few.

Because the mobs spawn in waves you don’t need a mass of AoE or a special build to tag them effectively.

I normally use just 2 AoE skills – I put one down when the mobs spawn, use the next one when the next lot appear and by the time the 3rd wave appears the first skill has recharged.

You can also go into melee range and use cleave (and your choice of target cycling key) to tag enemies.

Just be careful not to use anything that causes knockback because that messes it up for everyone. Annoyingly there’s no way to prevent the knockback that happens when players gain a level of XP.

For some reason there’s always those that must be ‘First!’ … I usually give them the benefit of the doubt the first time and explain the process. Tell that the zerg scales up the doors and everyone (including them) get more loot. Since the time it takes to do a solo opened door and a zerg opened door are dramatically different, most times that’s good enough to stop someone. Very few continue doing it just to troll.

As for opening The Skeleton/Mummy door at the same time as the Count … that’s me. The Vet will absolutely help take down the Count. This is usually more noticeable if I’m on a smaller map, and the group is small, as a zerg doesn’t really need the help.

My best Lab story is when the Horror spawned NW and 3 of us kited him to the Count. The Horror ATE HIM ALIVE … we tagged from a distance so as not to aggro him and then cleaned up the half health Horror when their fight was finished. Again, not that big of a deal when the zerg is large, but there’s definitely a logic for some times.

Wait, the horror and the viscount can actually damage each other?! That sounds awesome. Every time I’ve ever had the Horror come over during a viscount battle, the strategy is “kite the horror away so we can kill him without being bombed by the viscount’s knockbacks”. You mean to tell me those people are depriving me of an awesome giant monster battle?

I now NEED to have the horror and viscount battle each other. I can’t live without witnessing that.

I am talking people with the zerg opening the doors. Often as the first few people from a zerg are getting there someone at the front opens it as soon as they can run to it.

Actually, with 2 doors you would be fighting the viscount. The only place on the map where 2 doors are right next to each other are the viscount and a vet. The next nearest two is the one near lich, but it is just you can get that one without drawing his attention.

I start opening doors when bad commanders take bad routes or make bad calls on stuff like lich. When three doors open south and commander goes north out of OCD to run in a clockwise route I just go do the doors myself.

Lich is very soloable. It’s easiest to kill solo because then only one player has to worry about dodging his two big attack telegraphs. He spawns no skeletons and does next to no damage if you reliably dodge his stomp and his grasping shadow.

Zergs always want to do lich. It takes them dying a few times to realize the rewards/cost ratio is usually better with just farming tot bags from the other doors.

It’s worth it. I was running about solo when the horror spawned and started chasing me. I thought my time had come, then I rounded a corner and saw the Viscount. Salvation! I ran through him and watched from afar as they battled. I survived that day.
