I’ve been playing since launch but haven’t really bothered to try and figure this out.
I’m running with a zerg in EOTM, and 4+ people lay down Temporal Curtain; I get the first one’s swiftness boost, but the next ones don’t give me any.
Same thing for my own – if I have like, 5 seconds of swiftness left that someone else gave me and a I lay down a curtain, I don’t get the swiftness from my own spell.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Temporal curtain doesn’t act like other swiftness abilities, for some reason it’s the only one that doesn’t stack with other swiftness skills. Really annoying :/

You’re not a real dragon. You just look like one around the eyes.

You only gain 1 sec from TC if you already have Swiftness.

Temporal Curtain only applies swiftness if you currently have no swiftness. It is the only skill in the game that works like that. The rest of the swiftness skills stack on duration. Such was Warrior Warhorn Blowing, Guard Staff 3 and Static + Blasts.

TLDR – The tool tip for Temporal Curtain is incorrect, that one wont stack, but all other swiftness skills will.

Guard staff 3 stacks, but is limited in max duration to about 40 sec. Something like that would make a lot more sense for Temporal Curtain. It should add swiftness duration, but not above a certain max cap.

The cap for swiftness is 5 stacks. The duration is of swiftness is not capped.

Before +25% speed runes, some WvW mesmers used to use SoI to get 20 mins of Swiftness or more before heading out. Not really common or necessary now though.

The only reasoning I can think of for Temporal Curtain acting the way it does:

Once it has been placed, what keeps us from going back and forth through it to stack swiftness?

Example: Place Curtain, WSWSWSWSWS…..

Exactly. TC is the ONLY field in the game with such a meager requirement/stipulation to proc. It was designed to not give 1min15sec of Swiftness per use. That would entirely defeat their balance purposes of mesmer having limited access to Swiftness.

Pretty sure it’s 9 stacks for swiftness.

Yeah. I think it’s more than five stacks. I can build up to almost 2 minutes of Swiftness by going full shout build on my Ranger and also using warhorn and Rampage As One.

So 3 shouts, wh #5, and RaO? I count 5 there…

One of the shouts recharges before the first stack of Swiftness wears of.

I’ll leave you to figure out the rest.

My apologies. 9 stacks it is then.
