ANet discourages mindless farming (which, by the way, some people DO enjoy,) to make a measly potential what, 10g an hour?

And yet playing the trading post is perfectly okay to make thousands of gold a day.

So confused.

EDIT: Okay, let me be a bit clearer, since people seem to be misunderstanding. I don’t hate people who play the TP, I don’t think it should be changed or removed or whatever. I did the same thing in Aion, a lot of it, and I have no patience for it here so I don’t do it, but I have no problem with it. What I’m trying to say is that these people making a lot more gold than farmers do, unless we get some obscene luck and pull a precursor. Yet, Anet seems to think that nerfing farm events is necessary, when the gold income of farmers is much less than traders.

It’s not about feeling disadvantaged, not really. I enjoy farming, and it’s fun for me, and i make money at my own pace. People play the trading post, and that’s fine, they also make more money than me. I’m talking about how Anet nerfs everything that’s even remotely farmable.

Playing the trading post helps the market reach equilibrium between supply and demand.

I don’t mean to sound snarky, but this is Economics 101 and I can see why Anet would be perfectly fine with playing the trade post, which helps the economy, and not terribly happy with effective farming, which is really just another way of letting the supply of gold outstrip the supply of goods.

Plinx got a huge nerf a while back,
The camp trio karma train in Cursed Shore spawns less mobs and gives less loot than it used to
The mobs at jormag used to drop loot, not it’s absolutely kitten.

There’s a few other events, I’m sure, that I’ve missed, but it’s also well known that Anet is highly against that kind of “don’t think just farm” mentality that a lot of players are actually comfortable with.

It’s kind of like I work my kitten of at a minimum wage job just for them to decrease the minimum wage later on.

But they increased bag drops in orr, and I haven’t really noticed necessarily a reduced amount of mobs at those waypoints. Only that they now scale better, in making them not so easy to afk farm basically. I still make the same or more than I did before patch. I just have to work harder now.

well farming is something botters do a lot. So DR = economy less controlled by botters.
Botters however do not play the trade post.

If you’re making 10g an hour farming that’s really good. I always farmed to craft but farming is pointless in this game which makes crafting pointless.

If it is so easy everyone should be millionaire except the reality is only a small percentage of people know how to play the TP and making money.

It is just typical how those mmorpg with microtransaction works. They are not worried people can get rich in game as long as only a small percentage of people can do it. It is probably even better because it creat envy to push people to spend real money on cash shop.

That being said, if it is so easy just do it yourself, make thousand a day through TP. Why bother to complain.

The mobs at jormag used to drop loot, not it’s absolutely kitten.

This was changed because people were just farming the adds indefinitely and ignoring the dragon. So effectively they were exploiting (and trolling/insulting people who actually wanted to play the event as it was intended).

I never said it was easy, and even if it was, I wouldn’t do it. It’s not something that I enjoy. You’re missing the point of the thread: I’m not saying omfg QQ no one ever play the TP again, I’m saying how is it a problem if I can farm (let’s say) 10g an hour and that’s a bad bad horrible thing and Anet must nerf it immediately, when someone can sit in Lion’s Arch and not move a stop and make 1000 times more than what I make? It’s not like there’s an obscenely higher amount of effort made between the two, but one’s horrible and the other isn’t. It’s like let’s make the rich richer and the poor poorer kind of thing

But I think that is from your perspective. Kind of like saying why can a film maker make millions from just making a movie, when construction workers and police are risking their lives and health and working hard to make far less. Both take skill, a different set of skills. If the construction worker could make movies I’m sure they might, or maybe they love the job. And if the film maker had no luck he could do something less enjoyable, but would require more work and probably less pay.

A TP player has to know numbers, and pay attention to how the economy works. That is a skill and work in itself. A farmer has to know which events and times are profitable as well as know how to farm effectively.

I don’t personally play the market, I’m more of a grind and kill stuff kind of person. But I don’t hate the stock brokers sitting in a cubical making millions, because they earned their skills just like I did. We just took different paths.

It’s very hard to make money playing the TP. You need to:

  • Research and analyze graphs, charts, trends across a wide variety of items and materials
  • Calculate margins and volume for your intended investment(s)
  • Analyze risk to hedge appropriately
  • Do all of the above while competing with a large number of people doing exactly the same thing

Farming is significantly easier than this. Additionally, playing the TP doesn’t introduce any new materials or gold into the economy, while farming does. I can see why Anet would be more concerned about activities that could distort the economy in serious ways.

Incidentally, this is why I neither farm nor play the TP. The former is boring; the latter is beyond my skill level.

It’s the economy. You need to stabalize it. There is inflation to worry about. And beside the ingame economy there’s a exterior economy called Anet is try to sell gem. I’m sorry but the game have to be grindy so people that want to take short cut will support this wonderful game with no sub fee and a cashshop that don’t sell power.

No, I don’t think you are. Your response makes sense. It’s just that my thought is by nerfing farming events, you’re decreasing supply and demand will increase, therefore giving the traders even more money and taking money away from the farmers that they never even made.

Because Anet care much less about Flipper making money than their economy getting destroyed, people not buying gem, or people reaching all thier goal too quick that they have nothing to do and quit the game.
