I came in to GW2 in October near the beginning of the Halloween LS segment. I read about the Festival on the page in previous updates section and heard some people talking about farming and the gauntlet and such. What was there to make it the favorite LS segment? What is the gauntlet? How do you farm an LS like people keep saying?
Thanks for any answers
Imagine a little zone that is almost entirely a jumping puzzle, with a series of smaller jumping puzzles. Then add three special powers that allow for special movement abilities to be used in specific sections of that jumping puzzle. Now scatter interactable objects all around the zone for a jumping puzzle scavenger hunt and place a smattering of a special resource node. That’s basically the gist of the Festival, with a handful of events and random champions thrown in for good measure.
Oh yes, there was also a race that included those same movement powers as an activity. Basically if you enjoy primarily non-combat activities you should enjoy the Festival.

Personally I just loved labyrinthe cliffs. It’s a beautiful are. It was just fun.
The gauntlet and pavillion made people really rich. That’s why some liked it. Also the gauntlet had some really hard bosses people liked going against and beating. One if the first and only true solo hardcore content
The gauntlet and the jubilee champs came out the same time, the champs in the main part of the area where minions of Scarlet so they may not return. Above this where the queens testing area or the gauntlet that was not really controlled by Scarlet and would be able to come back unchanged.
The farming was killing the various gauntlet bosses for fairly large money rewards plus other drops. They where over in minutes and could be repeated as long as you had the tokens to get in (since tokens where rewarded it was not a problem if you could beat them).
Labyrinthine Cliffs is a zone which essentially a giant jumping puzzle. A lot of people consider this their favorite living story update since their is a huge focus on exploration.
Crown Pavilion is an area that’s fairly good for farming. Personally I didn’t like it, but you can make a decent amount of gold from farming it.
Queen’s Gauntlet is a solo challenge room where you spend tickets (from Crown Pavilion) to fight against certain bosses. This is pretty much the only somewhat hardcore solo content currently in the game and I enjoyed it a lot.
Queens Jubilee and Festival of the Four Winds were two separate events last year. This year the basic events that take place in them will be happening together.
You could also trade a lot of useless (largely worthless) materials at the Labyrinthine Cliffs last year for gold or a more useful crafting material.
I am hoping to offload loads of blade shards, ascended crafting junk and hopefully a shedload of mithril…
Here is why I enjoyed all three content drops.
BOTW – It was a fresh and innovative take on Living Story. Usually Living Story stuff introduces lore, events and items. But this event introduced new mechanics, such as special jumping puzzles. It also introduced a mini-game which was extremely fun and unique (which is still available today). It also helped that the area was a map of it’s own, and it was a well-designed, bright map.
Queen’s Gauntlet – a semi-instanced platform where you solo fight bosses of increasing difficult. I liked it because it was the only difficult challenge in the game. The last boss, Liadri, is very difficult and I’d wager no more than 10% of the playerbase successfully defeated her. I bet less than 5% actually completed the 5-orb achievement. These fights often encouraged you to play smart and efficient, meaning you had to use certain weapons you normally wouldn’t do and even skills.
Pavillion – Farming galore. Mob density here is very high and you could actually farm non-stop if you wanted to. It wasn’t exactly solo friendly, so plenty of zergs mindlessly trained throughout the gauntlet. The great thing about it is that there were 5 separate areas with distinct mobs. These mobs would drop certain types of loot, so you never really had an issue of crashing one specific commodity.
You could also trade a lot of useless (largely worthless) materials at the Labyrinthine Cliffs last year for gold or a more useful crafting material.

Since then the ‘useless’ cloth/silk/leather has become hugely profitable for people to sell. I also really hope the ascended stuff is added to the list.
