Q:

So i decided to come back to the game not too long ago to get a legendary because i never had one and because right now i have tons of free time now that school is over for now.

Found out i needed 100% map completion to be 1/4th of the way there and i was like “well bad, but it’ll be alright one map at a time right?”. Only problem is that i missed one point of interest on caledon forrest and spent like 20 mins going up and down the map examining every single inch until i found it. I was not amused.

I beleive if you have 90% or more of a map and that if you have all of it’s sub areas unlocked, then there should be a function to point you to anything you’ve missed.

Example: Queensdale, i have 90% of the map but i just need that last POI. Okay let me zoom out and see if i can click the challenges button to see if it’ll zoom to that last poi. Turns out i DO have it but i just missed it because i was slightly too zoomed in when exploring to see it. I go to that POI an “discover” it and get M.C for Queensdale. Done.

If for whatever reason that poi, skill point, heart, or vista is in a uncharted area on the map the function will not work. Telling me i need to double check everything on the map.

I would hope the Devs never take away the actual act of exploring by implementing a pointer to whatever is missed. The map and the lists are enough of a clue…at least, for me.

And, of course, there is always the Wiki…or Dulfy…or probably dozens of other resources.

Plenty of new pointers. Achievements used to say: “FOUND IN THIS MAP”
Now they say: “FOUND IN THIS MAP, CLICK ME FOR A CIRCLE ON WHERE TO GO!”

I’m not sure those are Exploration Achievements. If so, I can’t imagine anyone would want it any easier. Seems it would take all the exploration out of exploring. /shrug

On any map except the highest level maps if you can still see a scout icon on the map then he will tell you what you are missing.

We actually get a map… with labels! I feel spoiled.

I remember playing Morrowind where a random NPC gave me a long list of directions. You had to write it down because they were all like this, “at the gnarled tree, turn left, then walk until you see a half decaying signpost, etc.” That was exploring. You had to draw your own map.

Oh I thought you meant like caves etc which I’m sure has another topic about it. What your asking for is defeating the purpose imho. That last POI is what mapping is all about, if you have a green arrow system pointing you to it then it belittles your efforts and those of all the people who map completed and scoured the maps for that elusive POI.

Did Captain Cook have green arrows when he set sail?

Penardunn didn’t it get written in your journal? Some of the Nerraverine quests were crazy, I could fly over mountains and walk on water but couldn’t find a kitten cave or was it a shrine no matter how many times I read the instructions, god that was a good game. If only I hadn’t been tortured by those bloody cliff racers while I tried lol

Hmm, there are certainly problems for players with the explorer play style. The most notable being that explorers are expensive dates. Once you’ve found “it” the first time, finding it again isn’t really exploring. Exploration content in the form of new zones is time consuming to produce and does not really generate repeat play, so it’s low (or missing) from the devs list of things to do.

Yes, exploration has problems, but the OP’s presented problem is not one of them.

You should by Guild Wars 1 and try to map that…just saying.

No, I don’t think that Anet needs to make changes to the exploration achievements, but if they did, and it was up to me, I’d tell them to remove all exploration markers from the map and make people find them the old fashioned way.

Oh you’re right, it was written in the journal, I forgot about that. I died so much in that game.

I wonder if there would be a way to use a random generator to create new explorable zones. Maybe 1 map zone only, that would change up every week or month.
