Extra security
Security comes at a cost to convenience.
Considering that we already have mobile authentication, I don’t really see any reason why there should be a password for inventory or bank. After all, if you have mobile authentication and someone gets into your account that means they stole your phone, which means either:
- You were robbed, in which case your game account isn’t really what you should be worried about.
- Someone you know took it, in which case you have a very short list of kneecaps that need busting
The only “reason” I can see for having passwords for those is if you’re sharing your account. However, sharing your account with other people is a violation of the Terms of Service and ANet isn’t going to help you with that.

I loved Rift’s system, if someone tried to login to your account from another IP it locked your money and items and it sent you an email with a code for unlocking them the next time you login. It wasn’t annoying at all, oh and the IP that tried was blocked until you unlocked it on their account page. It worked very well.
No. The game already has 2-part auth. If you cant keep your account secure with the options already available, what makes you think that additional security will help?
The mobile authenticator is for smarthphones only, right? Not my problem here, but what about ppl that doesnt have smartphones, i dont think they can use the 2-part auth in this case, so the 2nd password should help them.
There are programs you can download at no cost to enable your computer to use Smartphone-type apps. So, there’s that.

Just wondering, how many keyloggers, troijans or viruses these kind of programs are carrying to your computer at the same time.
I suggest that don’t install any shady programs to your computer.
Well, I don’t know how ‘shady’ BlueStacks is, you can find it on CNet and other places that seem quite reliable.
Your choice, of course. =)

I’m not even talking about the mobile authentication. I challenge anyone to log in from a random computer and access your account. Every single person will get the “authorize this login” prompt. You cant without accessing your email. That’s the point of 2-part authentication. You need to be able to access both parts to get into your account from a new location.
no thanks..
though I’m not against it being an option.
I dont use the mobile authenticator. And I wont no matter how many sites want to use it. But if people want to use it/want more protection..well I’m not against that. Make it an a choice in settings/options.
The main thing you need though, is simply dont use the same password on multiple sites.(nor the same username). and dont log in from areas you’re not sure off/public wifi.

We have similar here.
You cant login into the game from a different ip til you authenticate it from your email.
Public wifi is never an issue. Anyone siphoning info from public wifi (which can be a criminal act) is more concerned with you being dumb enough to log into your bank account, not the account of some random game you play. Unencrypted private wifi (aka home networks) are what you should be really concerned over.
