F2P world transfer ruined my friend's game

Good luck.
No real problem. He got the game for free. He joined in the wrong server without asking and now he has to start over. Shrugs. Life is tough sometimes. It’s unlikely this will change because changes take time and programming, both of which cost money. The information was already there. Someone chose not to do research.
It’s not that I don’t sympathize with your friend. I just can’t see this being any kind of priority.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can blame the victim and tell them it’s their fault for not ‘researching’ something .. just how much ‘research’ do you expect a brand new player to do before they actually BECOME a player?
I know why Anet implemented the restrictions they did for ‘free’ players and it’s a shame that the OP’s friend is in this position but sorry, expecting people to do serious ‘research’ before they begin to play something is ludicrous.
Why not create a new account? I’d do that and blame myself. It’s really a non issue, sorry.
Honestly, Anet should do 1 free realm transfer for new players without making them pay and yes, I did pay for the game and the most expensive xpac and yes, I have been here since beta. Plus it doesn’t take a lot of resources to actually put a large notification on the page where you choose a realm. It was an oversight on Anet’s part.
Easy solution: Tell your friend to buy HoT and support anet. Your friend can change the server after your friend paid for the game.
[RUC] Riverside United Corps! For Riverside!

I don’t know about you, but when I join a game, specially on request/recommendation of a friend, the very least i do is ask on what server he/she plays.
Perhaps, it isn’t the new players that should do a bit of research, but those urging others to play with them. I don’t know, just seems like it would be kind of helpful to give prospective new friend-players a heads-up. /shrug

Hahaha, telling someone to at least read an FAQ or the terms and limitations of a f2p game is now victim blaming.
You are a joke. It’s called being an informed consumer, none of the relevant information is particularly difficult to find or would take any significant amount of time investment.
The term victim blaming is just invented by people who don’t want to accept any responsibilities and expect others to do it for them.

Who’s a victim here? The guy who downloaded a free game and didn’t ask what server to join? I’m sorry but this isn’t just about this game, it’s virtually every MMO that has ever existed. It’s natural to ask where people are playing so you can play on the same server in well over 90% of existing MMOs.
Now, your friend isn’t a victim, because no one hurt him. He made a mistake. It’s sad that he made the mistake, but it’s still his mistake. He didn’t know any better.
Calling him a victim implies something was done to him, something malign. That simply didn’t happen.
I’m not sure over what I should be more heartbroken over:
- your friend having to recreate a literally FREE ACCOUNT
- your friend or you not taking sufficient precaution that you can actually play together (not going to blame one or the other. both of you seem to be new to MMOs)
- your friend losing a level 20 character which is essential around 2-3 hours of gamplay
Meanhwile on this blog: – a bird is singing outside my window.
(Looks at my 11 level 80s and 4 level 20s. Looks at your friend’s one level 20)
Trust me, he can re-level to 20. It’s been done before by literally millions of people multiples of time. If he considers having to get to 20 again ruining his game, then this isn’t the game for him. (And he is taking having to do so waaaayyyyy to seriously).
ANet may give it to you.

2 to 3 hours at most I’d suggest if you group with him and help him out.
