Q:

I know since this is a GW2 forum I will get many positive GW2 comments but mostly I want your true opinion guys

I just paid $99 for FFXIV collectors edition on June 19

and on June 30 I paid $99 for GW2 so I want to your review on what do you think of these 2 titles and are these comments from Reddit somewhat true or will they evolve with both games expansions.

FFXIV = Decent PVE with not so great PVP.
GW2 = Decent PVP with not so great PVE.
Examples of this. FFXIV has raids and other group activities for PVE. It uses the holy trinity, so healers, tanks, and dps.
GW2 has dungeons and things but there is no holy trinity. It is something you will either love or hate.
PVP in GW2 works because your characters are not balanced off of, and gear provides no real advantages for your character in arena’s. If you want a more MOBA approach to pvp then GW2 is your game.
Avengedx

FFXIV end raids and loot (& mounts) with its crossclass system, make it a “very” decent PvE.. (besides it looks good too, dat glamouring)
and you can break thru the holy trinity.. seen some do Titan ex without healers or T10 without dps (only scholars). but yeah, its build on the “tank/heal/dps” which is ok.. (and with the crossclass system is very motivating to build up more classes)

Pro:
In sPvP, all gear/stats is equalized. Meaning, you can be level 1 and defeat against a level 80 player. But you must have the skills to beat him.
If you like how having gear is an advantage, you can play WvW. Which is world pvp.
sPvP and WvW is fun as hell.
No quest. Instead, there is Renown hearts. Which is upgraded quests. You don’t need to go back and turn in quest.
Dynamic Events.
Tons and tons of voice acting and ambiance. This made the world very alive.
There is dodging. Which makes the game a mixed of Action and hot key mmo.
Node Sharing- You don’t have to fight other players for resource nodes.
Mob sharing- You will be glad to see other players playing with you and helping you kill mobs instead of finding them annoying.
The lack of healers made it very easy to get dungeon groups. Instead of a 2 hour queue, you can find a party instantly.
No subscription fee. Burnt out? Go ahead and play another game until there is an update to bring you back.
Lack of Vertical progress, more horizontal progress- You aren’t forced to grind so that your stats stay relevant. You only need to grind for cosmetics.
Friendly and living community- Just don’t be a kitten, and they won’t be a kitten too.
Variety of PvP builds- All professions are viable and useful for different things. Some require more skill than others.
Cons
Some people like healer roles. Guild Wars 2 don’t have healers. However, you can be very supportive. Such as, ressing downed players so they’ll get up. Give them buffs so that they’ll be stronger. You can also play guardian/Elementalist to have a healer role feeling. What you cannot do is play whack-a-mole with healing or bring party members from 4% hp to 100% hp in seconds.
Dungeon gameplay for each dungeon is pretty much the same, you stack together and then dps the boss down. No tactical maneuvers needed.
Tons of AI/passive- Some people think that tons of passive and AI is ruining PvP. In my opinion, I don’t really care, those never really bothered me.
Slow Update- Some people are bothered about the lack of new skills/traits/equipment for 2+ year. But, ANet announced an expansion.
If you do get the game, turn off the tracker. The thing on the upper right corner that tells you where to go. It turn the game linear. Although helpful, it destroys the exploration aspect of the game.

FFXIV pros:
-Traditional MMO gear treadmill (do content, get gear, use better gear for harder content, obtain better gear, repeat)
-Has one of the largest subcription-based MMO population out there atm
-Is generally known to have a very nice and accepting communities
-Better PvE content (has content for all skill levels, and releases new PvE content MUCH faster than GW2)
-(Opinion!) Better graphics
-Very in-depth crafting system which you can put a ton of time into if you want to master all of the crafts
-More frequent updates due to the P2P model (~3 months the game receives a patch with 3 new dungeons, quality of life changes, new story missions, new primal fight, and new raid content)
-You can level every combat, gathering, and crafting class to 50 (current max) on 1 character
-Casino with mini games like FF triple triad card game and chocobo racing coming soon + expansion pack releases in Spring 2015 (3 new classes + tons of new content)
-If you enjoy the trifecta combat system (established tank, healer, damage dealers), this game fits that role
-Has a plethora of content that ranges in skill level/completion time, so you should be able to find plenty to do if you’re a casual player, but there are also some big grinds if you are a more hardcore MMO player.

FFXIV cons:
-Monthly sub fee (they reward you for every 90 days you sub with in-game pets/armor/etc., but still)
-PvP is lacking in comparison to PvP on games like GW2/WoW
-Outside of grinding for a legendary weapon on GW2, FFXIV has some parts of the game that are definitely more grind-intensive than anything you’ll find in GW2
GW2 pros:
-No sub fee + on sale soon, so it has a relatively low start up cost.
-Due to the megaserver that lumps people together from every server in 1 zone, you’ll usually run into people relatively often in open-world
-Is also known for having a generally nice and helpful community
-Doesn’t follow the traditional trifecta class system:
-Every class can build their character a multitude of way depending on your gear choices

-Your weapon skills are based on what weapon/s you have equipped at the time

-Every class has 1 healing skill, 3 trait skills, and 1 elite skill which can be swap on the fly while out of combat

-Has dodge rolls which evade attacks, whereas in FFXIV you simply move out of oncoming attacks normally
-Better PvP options than FFXIV has (both small structured PvP, as well as world vs world PvP)
-Updates to the living storyline for the game (main storyline quests) come every ~2 weeks.
-Lots of toys and skins available to make you character truly look unique, and a very nice dye system that lets you learn dye colors permanently, and then apply that color as many times as you want to any gear at any time.
-First playthrough and map exploration is really immersive, although repeating the exploration of the same zone 4-7 more times to level new characters starts to get old.
-There is talk about a GW2 expansion being announced soon, which would tie in well with the upcoming sale on the game.
GW2 cons:
-Many of the toys, services, and best skins are only available from the in-game cash shop, although they do offer the option of buying gems to use in the cash shop with gold you earn in game (With the conversion rates rising higher and higher, it’s not realistic to be able to afford much from the gem shop via converting gold until you’ve been playing the game for a while)
-PvE updates don’t come around often, so once you’ve done all the currently available dungeons/explored all the areas, you’re basically done with new PvE content outside of the hour or two of living story mission you get every 2 weeks
-To play new classes, you will have to make another character and level it up to 80 if you wish to use lvl 80 gear on it in PvE/WvW (sPvP you can do at any level, since the gear provided for it is the same for everyone)
-There are 8 classes in total, and you are only provided with 5 character slots, so to have 1 of every class

leveled, you would first need to buy $20+ gems or spend a decent amount of gold to unlock the extra slots
-I feel like after a certain point the game gets really repetitive due to the slower release of content patches compared to some other MMOs, but at the very least, your first playthrough of GW2 should provide a lot of fun.
I personally am enjoying FFXIV a bit more than GW2, especially due to FFXIV having just received a large content patch earlier this week, plus having an expansion pack coming up this year. That being said, I still log into GW2 every day for the log-in gift, and I occasionally play it for a bit as well, so I am confident that if you just play the two games and choose whichever you enjoy more, it should work out well for you.

If you have both games, (core GW2 and FFXIV) and you are comparing the two, why not play them and come up with your own opinion?

Just a thought….
