Q:
I know since this is a GW2 forum I will get many positive GW2 comments but mostly I want your true opinion guys
I just paid $99 for FFXIV collectors edition on June 19
and on June 30 I paid $99 for GW2 so I want to your review on what do you think of these 2 titles and are these comments from Reddit somewhat true or will they evolve with both games expansions.
FFXIV = Decent PVE with not so great PVP.
GW2 = Decent PVP with not so great PVE.
Examples of this. FFXIV has raids and other group activities for PVE. It uses the holy trinity, so healers, tanks, and dps.
GW2 has dungeons and things but there is no holy trinity. It is something you will either love or hate.
PVP in GW2 works because your characters are not balanced off of, and gear provides no real advantages for your character in arena’s. If you want a more MOBA approach to pvp then GW2 is your game.
Avengedx
FFXIV end raids and loot (& mounts) with its crossclass system, make it a “very” decent PvE.. (besides it looks good too, dat glamouring)
and you can break thru the holy trinity.. seen some do Titan ex without healers or T10 without dps (only scholars). but yeah, its build on the “tank/heal/dps” which is ok.. (and with the crossclass system is very motivating to build up more classes)
Pro:
In sPvP, all gear/stats is equalized. Meaning, you can be level 1 and defeat against a level 80 player. But you must have the skills to beat him.
If you like how having gear is an advantage, you can play WvW. Which is world pvp.
sPvP and WvW is fun as hell.
No quest. Instead, there is Renown hearts. Which is upgraded quests. You don’t need to go back and turn in quest.
Dynamic Events.
Tons and tons of voice acting and ambiance. This made the world very alive.
There is dodging. Which makes the game a mixed of Action and hot key mmo.
Node Sharing- You don’t have to fight other players for resource nodes.
Mob sharing- You will be glad to see other players playing with you and helping you kill mobs instead of finding them annoying.
The lack of healers made it very easy to get dungeon groups. Instead of a 2 hour queue, you can find a party instantly.
No subscription fee. Burnt out? Go ahead and play another game until there is an update to bring you back.
Lack of Vertical progress, more horizontal progress- You aren’t forced to grind so that your stats stay relevant. You only need to grind for cosmetics.
Friendly and living community- Just don’t be a kitten, and they won’t be a kitten too.
Variety of PvP builds- All professions are viable and useful for different things. Some require more skill than others.
Cons
Some people like healer roles. Guild Wars 2 don’t have healers. However, you can be very supportive. Such as, ressing downed players so they’ll get up. Give them buffs so that they’ll be stronger. You can also play guardian/Elementalist to have a healer role feeling. What you cannot do is play whack-a-mole with healing or bring party members from 4% hp to 100% hp in seconds.
Dungeon gameplay for each dungeon is pretty much the same, you stack together and then dps the boss down. No tactical maneuvers needed.
Tons of AI/passive- Some people think that tons of passive and AI is ruining PvP. In my opinion, I don’t really care, those never really bothered me.
Slow Update- Some people are bothered about the lack of new skills/traits/equipment for 2+ year. But, ANet announced an expansion.
If you do get the game, turn off the tracker. The thing on the upper right corner that tells you where to go. It turn the game linear. Although helpful, it destroys the exploration aspect of the game.
