FOTM the worst misstep I've ever seen
Segregated everyone by sending them to the same place.

find 4 people it’s not hard.
With groups already looking for fractal level 4, 5, 8, 15.. anybody who hasn’t logged in since yesterday is BONED.
If there are so many BONED people shouldn’t it be pretty easy to start your own lvl 1 group?
Give it a week or two and people will get bored/hit a difficulty wall and go back to doing other things.

This. Stop being lazy and make your own group.
he isnt being lazy he is right one day it will be almost impossible to find a group for some lvl now this could be fix by adding a cross server lfg tool not a finder per say more like a window that shows all groups and such with a filter say it works with only the servers you are grouped with for WvWvW
Edit: other than that i do not agree

Its not that hard maybe FOR YOU. Not everyone plays the game at the same time. For all you know, the OP could be playing from GMT + 10.
That aside, it was already impossible to find people to complete the temple DEs in Orr most days. Now it will be even harder since Fractals offer better rewards; new gear that will be required for future content + random drops. Not only that, but each fractal level increases your chances of getting even better gear. By this time next week, finding level 1 fractals will likely be nearly impossible. I wouldn’t be surprised if its up to level 7 since there isn’t a hard cap on difficultly level or a reset point.
For me it’s hard to find anything, but a D1 group
It’s a really, really strange decision to lock the entire group down to the highest achieved level of the lowest-achieving player.
I mean, it doesn’t just make it hard for players who are new to the dungeon to make it into a party. It also makes it difficult for players who have reached relatively high difficulty levels to find a group full of people who have reached the same level.
And what are the odds that the entire party is going to be at the same difficulty level? Is it even realistically possible to form a group where nobody is “wasting their time”* doing a difficulty level that won’t help them progress further into the dungeon?
*(Of course they’ll still get tokens, drops, and other rewards, but in terms of dungeon level progression, many people would perceive replaying lower difficulty levels as ‘wasting time’, perhaps justifiably.)
Literally the best dungeon I have ever played in an MMO.
Worry more about finding groups for the mid level dungeon. People will be playing fotm due to the grinding need and some of them will be playing diffculty 1.

Here’s what i mean. In GW1, unique bosses had elite skills, special drops, areas had quest chains that people knew about, that were easily accessed. People knew where to go for what rewards. There were reasons to re-visit other areas because the game wasn’t just about gear grind. It was about capping skills, vanquishing, titles, etc…
GW2 seems to be ONLY about grinding for gear because the combat is shallow and nobody really cares about areas they’ve already been to. It’s a skinner box. The game is not inherently fun or designed for longevity, it’s designed for people to grind for cosmetics and buy from the cash shop.
There are no unique rewards or skills to cap in GW2…or other things to spread populations. The live updates just trivialize the game because they put everyone on the same hamster wheel rather than immerse you or deepen the gameplay experience. This event just seems like gimmicky filler. There’s no reason to go fight the champion of Balthazar in Orr to get 71 copper and a blue when i can kill a Veteran Karka and get the same loot. This is what i’m talking about.
GW1 was designed very tightly. Now, if Champion of Balthazar dropped a special skin or had an elite skill to capture for warriors or humans because he is the human God of war…people would find longevity in this old content. Fact is…the game systems are trivialized. How many “Commune with generic object” skillpoints before ArenaNet realizes it’s quality over quantity? We dont want more, we want better. We want tighter systems design. We want deep, synergistic, team-oriented combat, we want unique rewards, different engaging things to do with interesting mechanics like skill capping…think on these concepts. Think back on GW1 and why you even had the money to build this game. The players want more GW in their GW2 and less trashy filler patches indicative of a failing MMO like TERA or SWTOR.

This is everything that is wrong with the game. The Guild Wars franchise was about being able to go anywhere and do anything at end game. Guild Wars 2 is a humongous deviation from Guild Wars and I will not spend another cent on an ArenaNet product.

Thats a really weak argument. You are taking a line out of a rebuttal to a specific portion of the game. I have fun with my guild, pugs and the community in the entire game, even Orr. I like the dungeons, I like the movement, I like the combat, I like the people. Do I think its perfect? No, not even close. That being said, this isnt constructive, its vitriol over the game being different than what you want it to be.

I’m just tired of giving my opinion when it won’t matter. I’ve played hundreds of hours of GW2 and I’ve spent a lot of time trying to detail the shortcomings of ArenaNet’s game design choices based on my experiences. I believe that the path they are treading will lead to a short life for Guild Wars 2. I, of course, just get repeatedly flamed by other forum members when I state my opinion (go play another game, go make your own MMO) and many of my posts have been censored by mods for no reason.
I’m glad you’re having fun but this update sealed the deal for me. I won’t be playing this game anymore. They gave up on their original and unique game design that made Guild Wars so fun and instead went for this traditional crap. And trust me, I’m not the only one who feels this way. All of my friends have stopped playing and many have even gone as far as to stop others from buying this game.

That aside, it was already impossible to find people to complete the temple DEs in Orr most days. Now it will be even harder since Fractals offer better rewards; new gear that will be required for future content + random drops.
So they should never add new content because people will want to play with the new content?
Fractals only drop rings and some mats to make a backpiece.
People will still need kit out their gear with exotics from other dungeons or crafting.
So much drama.
the world didn’t really need another undifferentiated gear grind game. I honestly don’t see how this game is different from WoW now.

This is true…..today. Unfortunately we know, because they have already told us, that this is just the beginning.
If you want to know why there’s drama, you need only take a second to put yourself in the shoes of the people that are disgruntled (probably the understated term of the year right there.) Lots of people like myself have full time jobs, family and various other obligations that require their time. They also happen to like MMOs and in GW2 they had finally found a game that didn’t punish you for not playing 10 hours a day. Everyone in this game knew that the top tier of gear was not only attainable for them but it wouldn’t require a ridiculous time investment to get there.
With yesterday’s update, that rug got pulled out from under them and GW2 took the first step into becoming just like a hundred other MMOs out there where you will be punished for not playing regularly as you will quickly fall behind the power curve. This wouldn’t have been nearly as big a deal if it didn’t fly in the face of everything they said during beta and even earlier than that.
What’s worse is that this game has only been out for about 2-1/2 months. Now I’m no game industry guru but I have a hard time believing that something that has as much polish as this new dungeon is reported to have (haven’t been there, won’t go there) was hastily thrown together in a couple of weeks, a month or even 2 months time (talking specifically about the content here, not the gear treadmill that came along with it.) I would wager that this agony mechanic for this dungeon was in the works from day 1 or even earlier. So we have gated content now which is something they said they would never do. Along with the gated content came a gear treadmill that they also said they would never do. Two broken promises, or lies if you will, for the price of one.
Now I don’t know about you but I don’t know anyone that likes being lied to and in fact, most people react very negatively when they find out they’ve been lied to. Trust is hard to build but easy to lose and they have lost a whole lot of folks’ trust with this move and not surprisingly, there is a large negative backlash over it. ‘But it’s just a game you say’ and that’s true but a lot of people, myself included looked at as more than just a game. We felt that it was a game made for people like us that didn’t want to be slaves to the grind and yes, we feel betrayed and we’re letting them know we feel betrayed. It really shouldn’t surprise anyone.
the world didn’t really need another undifferentiated gear grind game. I honestly don’t see how this game is different from WoW now.
Well it has less PvP modes than WoW.
In PvE there is a stat gear grind, but you get upgrades even slower than in WoW, despite reaching the top end gear more easily. Meaning the journey to top end gear is far less rewarding, seen as a grind to everyone who hates it, and still will not be enough to satisfy those who like gear treadmills.
There is one dungeon that’s worth the time to run in this game now, if you care about stats at all, as opposed to WoW’s multiple dungeons.
In PvE groups there is less teamwork required than in WoW.
But hey, the game is much prettier, and has no monthly fee, I guess…

You completely missed the point. What if I wanted the armor you got from vendors after taking control of the statues? Well SOL because no one does that content anymore.
Also, ANET is funneling people into new content by making it the only place to get the best gear. This means that dungeons that were already harder to find a group for , because of lack of popularity, will be nearly impossible to find groups for in the future because everyone will be chasing after the new best stat gear in the game.
Why do you even play man? Im having a blast with my guild and even pugs in this dungeon. This is not GW and they are not going to cater to GW fans, they’ve proven that. So if you dont like it, Im not sure what to tell you.
He prolly played for the same reason I did. Get your gear and locust off somewhere else. Many people got GW2 since the design was that of GW1….
You’re insane FotM is the coolest dungeon I’ve ever done.
In PvE groups there is less teamwork required than in WoW.
That is not true. Some Fractals 20+ dungeons are harder than any WoW 5 man, and a couple are harder on a personal skill level than most heroic raid bosses.
Lolz.
A week ago we have posts about how there’s nothing to do anymore.
Now it’s posts about how no-one’s doing old content anymore.
Ppl :/
Fractals is amazing imo. So many very diverse and unique dungeons. And bosses actually get a lot harder, with more unique mecahnics the higher you go. I was worried it would be a hp increase dps race. Awesome they’ve actually raised the skill bar via new mechanics.

I disagree, you are missing the point.
Even if the new dungeon did not offer rings and mats for a backpiece, people would still be running the new dungeon because it’s NEW, it’s FUN and it’s a CRAZY REVOLUTIONARY CONCEPT for a dungeon.
If people still need a helm, shoulder, chest, gloves, legs, boots, main hand, off hand, accessories or amulet, they will run the old content to get them. If they don’t need them, why would they run the old content? People would stop running it anyway once they got their items, correct?
Lolz.

Skill in dungeons. Sorry doesn’t compute. Some of us never complained about nothing left to do. WHy couldnt they have given dungeon grinder their little dungeon thingies without giving significantly higher powered gear. some of us don’t want to do dungeons but will now be significantly disadvantaged in wvwvw.
It’s a really, really strange decision to lock the entire group down to the highest achieved level of the lowest-achieving player.

IIRC difficulty levels reset every week. As a casual player, if this is true, its fantastic. It means there will always be low level difficulty groups every weekend. Hard mode players can happily grind to the highest difficulty levels while I can play around at lower levels.
Trying to remember where I saw this info, I think it was on a hands-on preview by another site. If you think about it, it kinda makes sense. Since there is no hard cap on difficulty level, eventually players would hit a point where it would be impossible to progress. Then you’d be stuck with an impossible to complete dungeon. Weekly resets mean you can run the dungeon up until your skill level, but no further.
IIRC difficulty levels reset every week.
It’s a good thing that it is, too. Having them reset after a week would be the worst thing for a casual player. As it is, it takes 30-90 minutes or so to do a run of three Fractals (A Fractuplet?), and the difficulty (and rewards) doesn’t really go up a tier until you pass the first ten. Having to put 5-15 hours in every week - not counting anything you do in the game besides FotM – before being able to do even the first tier with significantly upgraded awards would put the actual rewarding tiers permanently out of reach of every casual player.
