Depends where you are playing and also depends A LOT of your CPU, can you inform us about those?

The game is heavily CPU bound…. so the only sure fire option is to turn down the player count rendering and player detail setting, as well as particle effects. Its not so much the graphics, as the raw data processing required to track/load that many models and triggers per second.

But still…. 50FPS at what I can only assume is max settings is incredibly high. Average world boss is 30-40 FPS.

Yeah 50 FPS for 2560×1440 resolution seems ok for the CPU.

GW2 doesn’t rely much on GPU, so most of your gtx 980 SLI isn’t even used while your 3570k holds most of the load.
I have the same CPU, you probably have a good CPU cooler, if so try to overclock it, mine handle 4 GHz easily and I don’t use water cooler and the weather here is quite hot

With a R9 270x, I get my 60 FPS (I use V-Sync and my monitor is 60 Hz so yeah …) in most places, but in some WvW zerg fights and in world bosses there is no setup in the world that can keep the FPS high.

I will sure try that cause I was lowering the graphics and didn’t gain much boost i’d dare to say nothing is like the game is cap or not well optimized somehow. but yes I went to a boss fight and it went down to 29fps which I said hopefully I am doing something wrong and not the game. I will also try to get a more updated cpu now that there are 3 out there still deciding

I have water cooling but when I use asus overclock options it shut down my pc I get Blue screen etc i don’t know much about overclocking but when i look online and i try cpu gets to 95c which crash games i guess. cause it gave me problems

i get 70 something must of the time but then goes down in some areas and bosses worse. i will change the cpu soon and let you know

I also use an ASUS MoBo, in the BIOS options (before Windows start, press DEL as soon as you turn on your PC) look for CPU options and change the CPU multiplier and not the voltage, both will increase the clock but the voltage is much more dangerous and need to be VERY careful on how to change it.
@ 4 GHz my CPU stay around 75ÂșC with a Thermaltake fan cooler.
Try to google a bit about overclocking, it is not that hard if you don’t want to push too much, like make it run @ 5 GHz or something.

Against world bosses as I said, there is simply no setup in the world that will make it good, around 15~30 FPS is normal there.

The gains of a new CPU won’t be significant. Aside from the performance differences from this latest batch of CPU gens being marginal over the last couple of gens, brute forcing it won’t with the type of problem we’re running into.

I’m NOT saying that its unoptimized…. not in the way people usually incorrectly use the term for. In fact, the current state of the game’s performance is actually pretty high. Unfortunately to get there, they had to sacrifice a chunk of the player cap. But there’s a fundamental issue with how the data has to be processed that would require a couple major break throughs in software design to actually resolve.

Until then, we’ll have to live with the fact that there is an upper limit to performance vs load. However, there is a much bigger issue with server stability and command queuing since they uncapped Condi stacks. I’m almost certain they are truncating the server’s command queue in an effort to bring down the Server CPU load to something more sustainable. Planetside 2 did the same thing about 2 years ago; as they could improve the game performance across the board with a double tick rate…. but it was way too expensive to keep the extra resources running 24-7. So they cheated a bit (a lot) by adding artificial latency to the command queue, so the server had time to process all the commands at the normal rate. This of course meant every action had an automatic 500ms delay when it talked to the server, and had the net effect of creating a 2 second window of zombie life after a player was killed before the client killed registered it. The problem was in those 2 seconds, they were dealing damage as normal, and no conflict resolution process was added to resolve the constant time line discrepancies. So think BF4 around the corner kills, except it worked both ways.

Weird… I got everything on ultra and I’ve only got a gtx960 with 60-120 fps dropping to as low as 25-40 during world bosses/big Zerg fights

The game is so CPU bound that if you get say 40 fps on max settings on a GTX980Ti… You can set it to minimum settings and still get 40 fps. Yeah, its actually that “bad” in low fps situations.

I literally get almost no gains going from 2715×1527 with everything on to 720p with everything off. If you have a decent graphic card, there’s really nothing you can do. It’s entirely CPU bound, and because it’s written only to dual thread most modern processors perform about the same on it, because clock speeds have all stayed relatively static while cores have expanded, but GW2 can’t take advantage of more cores.

So the short answer is no you can’t fix it, that’s awesome performance!

It’s worth investigating your CPU temps. The i5 3570K should be easily overclocked by a significant margin (from 3.4GHz to upwards of 4.2GHz) especially with water cooling. Are your ambient room temps very high? Is the Heat Sink attached properly to the CPU?

Your GPUs are more than adequate to max this game out, if anything it’s the CPU and since you have the tools available to squeeze more juice out of I’d recommend focussing your attention on solving why it won’t overclock without issues.

Instead of buying an i5 3570k and 2×980ti you should of bought a good i7 and 1×980ti.

the thing is I was just upgrading my build. and the spent of the cards and the monitor crippled my wallet a little. so I am still pending the cpu + momo upgrade. tho there is 5820k and the new 6700k so not sure what I will get researching now

You should be fine if you OC your CPU. And to that other fellow, an i7 isn’t really worth it these days since games can’t really take advantage of all of the threads. In the majority of games the thing hosting you back is your GPU, not your CPU.

This may not be an issue with your hardware at all. I have recently noticed a significant drop in FPS starting with the July 28 patch. it seems partially, but not entirely related to peak hours. I have had nights that FPS was down to 9, and other nights it ran at about 42. Not up to your standards I know, but that is a large swing. I have seen similar disparity when logging in during a week day for a few minutes, although during the day it ran between 20-35. The inconsistency seems to imply to me that this has more to do either with network congestion or something on the server side rather than a client side configuration. I am running on a Mac at 2560×1440 with an 3.4 i7 and a Radeon 6970. I don’t mean to introduce a PC is better than Mac argument here, I am entirely disinterested in debate on the topic, but more to point out that the problem seems to be multi-platform and persists past the fix to occlusion.
