Frost gorge train ruined
Anyone who thinks this will cause deflation or even mildly curb inflation has never even studied the most elementary economics.
So then enlighten us oh mighty savior?
And also one question. Did the champ farm contribute to the deflation or to the reduction of inflation (I think not, which means the disappearance of said champ farms isn’t bad either) Or am i wrong?
It’s bad for his wallet.
Guys don’t stress too much. People are already working on new train system.
Train was the only way to fill the rest hours of the day, after having made dungeon runs/fotm etc, in order to make gold and buy stuff which is the target of MMOs after all.So cant see why train was nerfed after all.
If it is not brought back (maybe i’m a dreamer), something equal must replace it, else this sucks big time.
It’s really lame for me giving the opportunity to apply a legendary skin to any lvl 1 toon, and removing the way getting them.
The champ train wasn’t even that profitable. If you want to complain about inflation complain about dungeon paths that give 1-3 gold + champ boxes to 5 people and can be cleared in 10-30 minutes.
That is playing the game as Intended. The Champion Train is not.
I’m pretty sure it was intended, why else did they add champ boxes in the first place? I didn’t do frostgorge because it was the most boring thing ever, but why take it away from the people who liked it? “inflation” is not a good reason because champ boxes don’t even give gold anymore.
Good.
Agreed. This mindless zerg train deserved to die!
[quo te=3900975;Windu The Forbidden One.6045:]Even though I did not care much for champion trains myself, the fact many people come here just to say how happy they are is pretty deplorable.
“Play how I want you to play” at it’s finest. [/quote]
I agree, I don’t get some people. god for bid they removed something they enjoyed doing people would be kittening and moaning for months. But it’s OK for them to come on here and say they are happy when it effects someone else. There was no reason this needed to be changed.
That is playing the game as Intended. The Champion Train is not
Stacking, skipping and using exploits vs. running through map and killing champions.
But seriously, there was nothing wrong with champ farm, now if cost of precursor will be 600g instead of 900g there is no chance to make this amount of gold for ppl who don’t like dungeons / fractals.
WHY ANET? My only source of income is gone. Life is not worth living anymore. But seriously, this was not even in the patch notes. This patch went ahead without the approval of the community. I’m sure this is devastating to everyone! How can anet change something so drastic and not include it in their patch notes?
We want the train back.
They do mention it in the patch notes, under World Polish in the Balance, Bugs and World Polish section:
All open world champions have been converted into events to allow for them to scale for large groups, or have had their classification changed to elite or veteran.
What I don’t understand…..why nerf the Frostgorge train but not the Queensdale train? This will just drive more people to the Queensdale train – which is already creating a toxic environment for new players to see as their first experience in GW2.
They did nerf the queens train, spider is now a vet, and bandit is a vet as well I think.
Gotcha – I expected the loss of spider once I saw the patch note, but didn’t see anything about a change to the bandit event. Thanks for the update.
Although he has “Veteran” in his name, he is still a champion drops champion bags.

Re-spam Champion Train is not Playing the game as intended. That is obvious by the fact that it was nerfed.
if it were playing the game as intended they would have added gold to the Loot bags.
If they make the champions spawn less often. If they increase the interval… if they reduce the gold in the Loot bags…. The Champion Train is not playing the game as the developers intended.
The fact that you could make money without putting in any effort is the reason why the train needed nerfing.

I don’t, nor have I ever, champ train farmed. It has nothing to do with “my wallet”.
Again, in an economy where money is created at will (each looted item or amount of coin is brand new to the world and therefore wealth is actively created) will never experience anything but inflation when combined with a supply/demand based market. Trying to argue otherwise displays a complete ignorance of the most basic of economics
The fact that you could make money without putting in any effort is the reason why the train needed nerfing.
My 10 millionth speed run of the same dungeon doesn’t require any effort, either. Why do those still give free gold? Why is spamming 1 in a zerg not worth gold but if I do it on my warrior in a dungeon I deserve gold? Lol.

You forgot the other end of the equation…Gold sinks. If yoiu ciut down on created wealth by nerfing loot bags, and Increase the gold sinks from things Like… Buying Traits .. then you get closer to a balance where Inflation can be reduced.
“Event and Champion Loot
With the changes we’re making that remove some of the systems that take gold out of the economy, we need to make sure the economy remains balanced in terms of gold input as well. We’ll be reducing the amount of raw gold that comes out of champion loot bags and events in an effort to keep the economy balanced and spread out player activity a bit."

Doesn’t affect the prices of consumer goods and therefore doesn’t affect inflation.
Listen, if you like the update simply because of a biased grudge against champ train farming, fine. But don’t try to argue that this change is somehow economically prudent.
All this hate on the zerg… I literally just started playing a week ago and the Queensdale zerg is the most fun I’ve ever had in an MMO… did y’all just come in here to feel good about yourselves? Or do you really hate the rest of us having fun? Sadists…

Look I never took economics so I cannot argue with as Much confidence as you, but…
If people have LESS Gold In their Pockets… and the number of consumer goods remains stable… then sellers need to Lower prices to compete for less Money in circulation.
MORE Money in the Pockets of Players chasing a stable consumer supply = higher prices.

They added champ bags because before hand, champs would drop between no to green loot, but most of the time grays. So people litterally didnt bother with champ events at all. Then they buffed their loot, slightly buffed it again, then added the ascended stuff….and people realized ‘hey, we can form trains for this and farm’. So no, it wasnt intended. Players wanted a reason to kill champs, they got it, and then players proceeded to abuse it.
" I literally just started playing a week ago and the Queensdale zerg is the most fun I’ve ever had in an MMO"
Keep doing it then! If this isn’t about the loot bags then keep enjoying yourself with others in Queensdale killing easy mobs. Nothing to stop you.
Does that mean players actually have to play the game again? Oh my god!
This is a good news tbh
Meanwhile, ignoring the fact people can still turn real money into in game money, still inflating the economy regardless.
did y’all just come in here to feel good about yourselves?
Welcome to the true face of the so “social” Guild Wars 2 community! People here are hateful ignorant and arrogant including the forum moderators.
So much for “muh social mmo” ey, Colin?
Or do you really hate the rest of us having fun? Sadists…
Yup they do, they do hate their fellow man for having fun. Also they don’t want you to collect enough gold to be able to craft a legendary, because they feel like they only deserve to be special little snowflakes.
I liked the train, because I came back after a very very long time to this game with next to nothing, by doing some farming I not only met some nice people, I got a source of income. But because of this they are sticking it up to the new guy because any dreams of any type of legendaries just ceased to exist as it was expensive enough already.
They want to make it less grindy? Have people disperse doing other activities? I’d have to farm all the mats myself now with a 2% drop rate(made up %) making it more grindy then ever before because I don’t have gold. And this puts people that did a lot of farm time up the chain because they now have the gold to influence the market if they play it right and make even more money.
The only good thing in the grand scheme of things is that the activity itself stopped which was getting boring really fast. (to me) But they present no other way to get some source of income to my knowledge. Apart from farming the higher level mats and selling them which, as stated before, is even more of a pain.
Not to mention ( off topic ) that I can’t do -certain- bossfights anymore for loot because of the time. I’ll either go for 1 primetime at which I always eat or not available, and i’ll end up in overflow anyway or i’d have to wake up or guest every time which is.. really really dumb.
Disclaimer: My opinion, yours might vary. Don’t crucify me for it.
TL;DR +to the old player, middlefinger to new player
this game is grind heavy for non-“base” items….even with trains and speed runs.
the champ train “nerf” is not a problem, tho. the silver was already nerfed to barely above WP cost. your money comes from selling the mats. that hasn’t changed.
MARA (EU) Gunnar’s Hold
I agree to most of the original post, my source of income has gone now through the train being nerfed. I am not a rich person in the game I think I have around 30g, and I’m definitely NOT a rich person in real life, in fact I’m unemployed, so I can not go out and convert real money into gold. Now you all might say play the game to get gold….. I have been playing this game since day 1 and I still haven’t got above 200g. I haven’t been that lucky in the game like most by getting precursors, exotics every 10 mins. So after the nerfing of the Trains, I might just hold back on playing the game now as I find it quite boring on running round like an idiot spending silver to get to a boss then finding out the it has been demolished and even when I do get a chest at the end its all blues and greens only worth 10s in total and 1 rare worth 20-40s… is it really worth it now??
So, what was in Champion bags?
- A paltry amount of coin, that was also reduced as a separate change in this patch
- Some items that increase the amount of available gold only if players sell them to merchants. If the players salvage these items for mats and sell the mats, this takes coin out of the game via TP fees
- Crafting mats, which again take money out of the game when sold via TP fees
In other words, the major source of income from bags is via selling mats on the TP, not the coin drops. Compare that with dungeon rewards.
In the meantime, reducing the amount of mats available will increase mat prices as well as the prices of items made with mats. In the meantime, income for some players will be reduced. This could have an effect on demand for some items, but it’s debatable how much. Those players who really want the items will go to dungeons, which introduce much more “new” gold than champ farming did.
Debate all you want whether Champion trains were the right or the wrong way to play, but stop with the utter crap about how this is going to dramatically lower prices by reducing inflation.
More awesome news.
Sooooo happy!!!!
Out of curiosity, why exactly does this make you happy?
Because people that champ farm are too brain dead to play the TP.
Which means people will do more dungeons now. Good enough for you?
But they won’t.
What’s the problem? You were never supposed to form giant champ trains and farm them this way from the start.
There’s plenty of other ways to get money.
Play the game the way you like, and let the others play the game the way they like.
A simple fundamental concept that sadly many people here seem to ignore.
And trying to eliminate grinding is as a ridiculous idea as it gets. A proper game should have all the options open for the player, and let him choose the one fit for him.
Also, the idea that dungeons in this game possess any short of challenge or require any amount of skill is an illusion greater than any the mightiest mesmer can create.
Most of them are set processes, from step 1 to step 5/6/7.

Ok its my time to tell how i fell about fgs train. First of all Almighty Bor here. Second, i think that this nerfing of this train shouldn’t happen, beacuse if u are for players douing together something and hangin out in game this was mistake. I personly got new friends on that train and because hanging with them and chating about whatever helped me to farm easyer and have fun while iwas douing that. Becaus of that train i decided to craft legendary weapon, which i never decided before because there wasnt farm like that, now idk what to do i have like cople things to do and i am feeling like quiting on legendary only because i dont wanna lose another month on low drop rate events, world bosses and dungeons esspecialy when prices on TC are too high. U killed my vibe, i was so heat up for legendary which i would use to show off in wvw that now i feel like sh**, i was so heat up for playing game, that was like first thing i did when i woke up, playing 10h per day. But now, feeling is so bad… Where to get that kind of gold, materials and every fun which i had with other player in that train. This was fun, every other farm is stressfull if i am gonna kill that or kill this.
And speaking of ppl which are happy that train is gone. Ppl u should know we was like an army with rules. Everytime u get on map u ask where is train to come or to see how much will u wait at Fish, we had order where to go, if someone skip Quaggan he would wait at Fish, ppl placed banner’s, merchant’s and even TC’s for others. So there was some rules which players created because thay wanted some order, and there was player who just dont care, and kill champs withouth order. Did thay think about other, NO. Are thay selfish, YES. So its normal that someone will be rude, because someone spend there more than 3 hours and playing by rules.
And ppl who came here to hate and fell good because this happen shold be ashamed, u are enjoying because certan group of ppl lost thay income source. Well, it isnt our fault that u cant do farm 6h+ per day, it isnt our fault that u are spoiled little kids which are used to get everything on silver plate and certainly ot osnt our fault that u dont have that kind of determination which we have. One advice ppl, dont hate what u can’t do, it isnt our fault.

You guys that are exclaiming “Good!” might not be so happy if this makes t6 mats, cores and lodestones increase in price since people won’t be opening near as many boxes. :P
I never cared if people trained around Queensdale killing champions. My issue has always been the toxic atmosphere, that many champ train riders turned Queensdale into.
I have seen people call other people tards for killing a champion out of turn.
I have seen vers of the game tell Newbies, that if they do not join the train they cannot attack the champs, and if they do so Out of turn shut their pie holes about it, because mentioning On map that they did is griefing… and will be reported.
I have seen people that decide to kill a champion just 3 or 4 people to see if they can…out of turn called greedy, and discourteous.
Seems that giving the people On the champion train respect and courtesy, means that you MUST Join the champion train….or Not touch them.
One guy said " I am keeping track of players that Kill them out of turn, if I ever see them in a dungeon not going to help them."
THIS is why I am happy the Champion train was nerfed.
PS. Do we really want a Bunch of players whose two important skills are …following one another, and hitting auto-attack?
The problem is with THOSE PLAYERS, not the actual “train”. Those players are going to be kittens in dungeons, or in events, or anywhere. Blaming the train for that is nonsensical, really. Your problem seems to be with other players that have ALWAYS been present in Guild Wars (yay no sub fee /rolleyes), and not with the activity, so why are you happy that the activity is nerfed but the players are untouched?
Also, in regards to your PS, do we really need players whose only skill is “flipping” on the TP and not even playing the game? They’re worse than any zerg yet ANet seems ok with them…

You are mistaken.
Supply drops due to a decrease in mats from farming.
Demand remains the same as demand is gauged in individual units and nearly 100% of the player base is still able and willing to buy nearly any given given mat.
Diminished supply + unchanged demand = higher prices. Simple supply and demand curve.
Play the game the way you like, and let the others play the game the way they like.

Cos they can kick you out of a dungeon. They can’t kick you off the train.
Maybe FG will be a bit more bearable for me, as before it often went so fast I couldn’t keep up with load times holding me back.
Either way, people are still gonna do it, unless they just make champ bags COMPLETELY worthless/remove them.

This mindset is the problem with the train. A group of people can’t just commandeer an entire map! The “Play how you want” mantra being thrown around here cuts both ways! A friendly train, that accepts other players may take a crack at champions with their friends, is a wonderful thing that I totally agree with! It conveys all the benefits of the usual grind but with a bit of camaraderie thrown in! It might not e to everyone’s tastes but it doesn’t hurt anyone!
But when we see the train turned into a venomous claim of “my way or the highway” on every champion on the map that’s when it can’t be condoned at all! And this does happen a lot, it’s not every train but it’s enough! And that’s why trains are being nerfed, because some people don’t know how to share, and have ruined it for the others!
You don’t own anybody else’s game experience, you can’t dictate what they fight.
And I do feel sorry for the genuinely helpful and understanding train runners that these others have ruined it for the whole bunch.
They also ruined the party system when they reduced it from 8 to 5.
But that is neither here nor underwear.

But when did I say that now that champ farms stopped the inflation will stop?
Exactly, I never said that. I only said that nerfing the champ train will force people to do more dungeons, and that’s what makes me happy.
Armor repairs were a huge Gold sink. Now that those are gone, they had to reduce the Players income somehow. I think this is perfectly reasonable.
Was playing around fsg tonight, and hoped in a group, and tried some stuff.
It’s certainly possible to run some kind of champ train if people cooperate, and include the champs in nearby zones, like the three in fireheart rise. I know two of them seem to have consistent spawns, not sure on the third one. Doesn’t cover the spawn of the big 3 though(fish, kodan norn), so a train would also have to incorporate other champs like the giant.
I think it would be hard to organize something like that since there is no multi map chat, people will have different opinions on which champ to go to , and future megaservers may interfere in the future.
I think they nerfed champ trains so that it will spread player activity. Neverending champ trains will still exist, the only difference is other maps will be included, just wait for players to device a new route for their choo-choo train. And also it is much more refreshing to visit other maps for champs instead of QD and FGS. I think ArenaNet should cut the cost of waypoints to compensate for nerfing champ bags, because rarely ever die from a champ train. LOL!!!
And time for new players to explore other maps too

It contributed to thousands of t5-t6 mats, lodestones, and blue/greens/rares
pouring in the TP daily.
I personally TPed hundreds after each farming session.
If this source is not replaced in some way, supply is bound to be reduced
and since demand is not going to be reduced, more likely to increase,
prices will inflate.

No zerg trains = more players learning how to not just press skill 1.
Your optimism is refreshing
It seems you didn’t quite get what I was saying. So let me try and explain it better to you.
I assume that everyone that plays the TP or runs champ farms do it because they want money. Now that we got that out of the way, here’s the point I was trying to make.
Playing the TP requires thinking, a lot thinking. Champ farming doesn’t require thinking at all. Considering that playing the TP nets you a lot more gold than champ farming, it is only natural to assume people that champ farm are, how should I put it, not smart enough(? sorry couldn’t find a better word) to play the TP.
Nerfing the champ farms means people will have to do something else to get the gold. The closest thing to champ farming (not considering the TP) is in fact running dungeons.
And for the matter of why should I care. I simply LOVE running dungeons. I just find it extremely fun. So, people that ran the champ farms will move to doing dungeons now. Which means more dungeon groups, and hopefully even paths that weren’t popular will become more popular again.
And that’s why I’m happy.
1. Dungeons got nerfed as well, haven’t you noticed? Basically everything except TP flipping got nerfed in this patch.
2. Champ trains were a way to earn gold, but mostly indirectly – through selling drops. Direct gold earnings were a drop in the bucket compared to that. Now, the price of all that stuff the train supplied is going to go up. That doesn’t make me happy at all.
And as always, the TP barons (people that do not really play the MMORPG at all) are the only group that will benefit.
And also one question. Did the champ farm contribute to the deflation or to the reduction of inflation
Champ trains introduced to the market more goods than gold. Thus they actually slowed down inflation. Now there will be slightly less gold being created, but also even bigger drop in supply (the commodities you use that gold to buy). The prices will go up.

Don’t you guys get it? I remember when they stated that they were content with champion trains (clearly not) and they had no intents on changing. Anet did this this because they want more people to purchase gems to convert to gold. It’s not that complicated of an issue. They deployed the “inflation” smoke screen and boy have you guys just lived up to their expectations. Time to wake up from your deep slumber and realize that they just want more mulah from you.
How about this idea. Removing the cost of trait changes & armor repairs (armor repairs being clearly more significant), also removed a big Gold sink, which means they need to tone down the money you gain. Seems Logical no?
Take your Illuminati bull somewhere else.

And they did that by nerfing (again) gold from champ boxes. There was no need for an additional nerf on top of this.
