I just hit 80 on my first character, but I did it all in wvw zones since lvl 40, so I’m a bit out of the loop on the pve side of the map. Now I want to get exotic gear, and I have heard people talking about Cursed Shore, so I ran there, but I’m not really sure what to do.

I looked on youtube, but the videos showed a lot more than seemed to be actually happening in game. All I saw was a bunch of people (half of whom I’m fairly certain were bots) sitting at the middle way point of the three in the loop, killing the mobs that spawned and doing the event when it popped. And that was it. There was no roaming, no protecting the caravan to get the lower camp back, nothing but sitting there.

Is that really the best way to farm in this game? Just sitting there half afk doing an event every 15-20 minutes? Or is there something I’m missing?

Plinx farming is rather popular, you might want to google that.

DR will kick in now so you have to move to other points every so often.

Yes that is what is happening in Cursed Shore. Blame it on bad design of the zone. High mob density, contested waypoints, high fee for teleports… why would people move around when they can just farm Plinx, penitent and shelter?

If Anet wants the players to actually roam around and do other events they need to have another look at ORR and make some changes to it.

I’m going to be honest, I have the most FUN farming an event chain in Straits of Devastation. The chain that rolls from near fort Trinity, to Lone Post, to Rally, and from there to the assault on the Temple of Balthazar is a TON of fun…. with the added bonus of facing what is probably one of the hardest boss fights in open PVE. (I haven’t done enough dungeons to comment on Risen Cleric of Balthazar vs some of the dungeon content.)

The Risen come in nice dense waves, easy to work as a group, but mobile, and again, the march to the temple itself is challenging and does not always succeed. When it fails…. loop back to Lone Post and try again.

In general, I’ve found this to be about as profitable (and more entertaining) than many of the Cursed Shore farms.

Might be worthwhile, depending on the stats you’re looking for, to look at dungeons as well. They might not get you the gear faster, but it can sometimes be a nice refresher from the farming… unfortunately, unless the dungeon is Arah, you’re likely going to have to port to LA and then back to Cursed Shore afterwards (or if you don’t find a group).

Plinx Chain in Cursed Shore. Temples and chains in Malchor’s Leap. The chains mentioned above in Straits. There are also quite a few of one off events in Straits that spawn very often.

Google Plinx. There are never bots that farm it. Really you can play how you want. The gear will come. You could continue to do WvWvW. Between tokens and karma you can buy gear.

People complain about the end game. I don’t see the problem. Just consider the karma grind as an endless daily for you. That you can do until your hearts content. Or you can run dungeons for the gear there. Play the AH to make money.. or just make money farming.

Its easy to make 1.5 to 3g an hour farming Plinx chain and hitting up events that spawn nearby. There is literally almost 0 downtime if you learn the area. Those that just sit at Penitent are doing it wrong. (the non bots)

Salvage your whites, Sell your blues and greens. Salvage your yellows for Globs of Ectoplasm. Buy either Masterwork or Rare MF gear from the AH with Runes of the Pirate/Traveler etc.. and MF Jewelry as well.

One final note. Make sure you are doing your daily and monthly achievements. You get tons of karma from it. I would also wait to open your jugs (save them) until you have a Karma booster, a flag buff, and the Guild 15% karma buff running. That way your at close to 8k a jug.

Getting exotics is beyond easy. Look at the crafted sets as well to see if the stats your looking for are available there. It’s the hard to get skins that you would grind for. Which is better than grinding to be competitive.

I you’re thinking exotic gear, you can buy exotic armor with karma from select vendors in those 3 zones (Straits of Dev, Malchor’s, and Cursed Shores).

Most of the time the vendors aren’t there. It takes completion of a meta-event-chain for them to appear. But given the mention of “exotic” in the top post, those are what you’re looking for. I would reckon you get as good or better karma in wvw.

@mulch. Best source of karma is event jumping in Cursed Shore. Plinx chain, Abom, Tar, Arena, Jumping to Pent etc just to tag the event for the gold and back to Plinx.

Can get over 25k an hour. Give or Take

ok, farm it. The O.P. spent 40 levels in wvw. S/he already has a huge pile of karma ready to spend. My guard hit 80 and had enough k for 4 pieces that same day (if only the vendors were up).

This was the comment my post was in reference to. I did not want him to think the karma gain in WvW was equal to Cursed Shore.

He basically asks how to farm in his OP. I answered.

Mulch has a point with the vendors. That part can be a pain. I would suggest first seeing what vendors have the stats you want via many websites out there.

^ I like that one.

Then you will know what Temples to aim for. Get in zone, ask if people want to group to take on the event chain for that Temple. I’ve done this a few times. For the most part I’ve had success with it unless the chain was bugged.

OP asked a rhetorical question. He already saw how people farm and he is disappointed. By telling him the same thing that i did that people stick to plinx trains, shelter and pentitent in that one area, you are not helping her change her mind about how Cursed Shore zone works.

Thanks for the tip on Plinx. That’s certainly better than sitting at the waypoint, although it’s still not particularly thrilling.

It is all right. It will be thrilling for few days after that you will get numb and won’t feel a thing

Your hands will work on their own, your mind will be somewhere else probably thinking about what you are going to eat tomorrow, or what movie you going to watch:……while plinx train goes on and you don’t even realize that you farmed 100K of karma. Plinx enters your sub conscious and stays there.

In Guild Wars 2….. Plinx plays you.

I only farm the Shelter / Penitent area for a bit on Saturday mornings. Make 3 or 4 gold to keep my other 7 freeloading alts in new gear and/or mats for another week or so

Much more than that and your brain begins to turn into mush.

If you have a small group of friends / guildmates to play with, there are some neat events at the southern end of the shore (am at work and can’t remember zones) that are usually sitting there, spawned and waiting, that no one ever does. They can generally be cleared by 3-4 people and make a fun break from the holy trinity of northern shore events. The Grenth event is also a great deal of fun when it’s up.
