The basic point is in the title ignore the rest.

Quite alot of players whine about that there is to much farming and grinding in this game.

I can’t say that this game is more made to farm and grind than any other game, I would say it is less grindy as any other game.

1.
The point of these “grindy” stuff that requires some to grind alot such as Legendary, Ascended and even Dungeon armors is that you are not supposed to do the same stuff over and over again to get what you need the next day.
The idéa of them is that you have to play the game and enjoy it’s content and when you have done that long enough you get your reward.
That is one reason to all these once a day stuff they have implemented, I am pretty sure they are there to make players not to repeat content but too do more stuff, sadly this doesn’t work on those who I would call farmers becouse they will find the best way to grind the content in the fastest and easiest way possible.

2.
Today, the reason I wanted to bost this I saw two people talking in chat about the best way to level up and one said I level up my toons in CoF from level thirty and thats about 8+ levels hour.
I mean people find their way to farm and grind everything even levels… I mean it is impossible to make a game like this where no people will or can farm, if you take away rewards no one will be tempted to play it and if the rewards are too god people will farm it.

3.
When does people farm in GW2? I could say that I would en up farming when I have done everything in the game… But if that happens I would quit.
But for others I can understand that they are farming.
When you have compleated everything in this game and there is nothing more to do and the only thing you now need is a Legendary or two, you will start to farm.
IMO, Legandary weapons should have been rewarded to players that have been active more than 900 hours or something like that
But I can see that having you “farm” the Legendary keeps bored players in the game and also that will make them aware of the updates and the new store items.

4.
In the end, every game will be farmed when you have finnished all content and there is some content left that requires lot’s of materials, tokens or something like that.
So again, GW2 isn’t worse than other MMO’s it is in my opinion better becouse I havent fealth the need to farm anything yet and I have played since pre-release.
(I have farmed/grinded an hour or so from time to time, “like the Invasions” but never done it becouse I needed too and found it booring)

On 1 thing you are right. I hate people who join my party and ask if they can relog at the endboss on a low lvl character. Can’t help it, I just hate them.

For the content. There are some things you like in a game and some things you don’t like. It’s impossible to love 100% of every game in the world so there is content which will be done every day and content which will be touched one time and then never again.

The “need to farm” thing.
Well, after you make your lvl 80’s characters, go through a lot of content and do what you like to do in the game, get the armors you like and the weapons you like there is 1 step further which is Legendaries.

To get a legendary you need:
-make the content you like daily hoping to drop the materials you need for the legendary- repeat it for thousands of times;
-farm champions
-farm other stuff, sell it for gold and then buy what you need.

GW2 it’s not worse than other MMO but it’s also not so much better. I like it and I play it.

For how I see it, every character I make needs to make a step forward in the game with everything I do so..when I played a lot on it, farmed the dungeons, got the armor and weapons etc..the next step forward would be the legendary weapon.

I have almost 1 year since I play this game, 4 lvl 80 characters well geared, more than 800 hours played and never had the luck to drop a precursor. I didn’t farm too much, I just played through the content I like but playing like this I don’t have even 20% of what is needed for the legendary weapon.

Doing lvl 40+ fractals it’s nice, doing some dungeons again it’s nice but it’s not a step forward in my character’s progression. To make the progression I should farm and pray for precursors which I won’t.

I don’t think farming or grinding is a problem. It can even be fun. The way it is implemented is the problem.

If it is time-gated it is bad, if it is extremely hard to grind for multiple ingredients you need to make something it is ver bad.

Grinding for currency is bad.

But if you can just farm the materials you need in a decent way it can be fun. It’s a reason to go out in the world. (Then again.. what would I craft.. ascended weapons or a legendary.. I wants fun thinks to ‘craft’).

Grinding for very rare drops is no problem if the drop is not required and it is indeed the item you want not currency you need to buy it.

What many people complain about it that it’s the wrong sort of farming / grind.

Multiple (not just 1 or two to make a very rare item.. like with the charged lodestones / cores) ingredients you need are very hard to farm.. basically impossible. But simple because of the many people in the world it will drop. That means you will get it form the TP so you option is to farm for gold. Thats much more rewarding. But farming for currency is the boring way of farming.

Same with dungeon-tokes. It would be no problem is there was another goal you could farm a dungeon for and then have a dungeon tokens as an extra but thats not the case. Those tokens are the target so once again currency farming. Boring.

Then the laurels you get from daily so a time-gated grind and the gold that you need so much is also a much time-gated.

So no farming and grinding is not a problem.. the form of grinding / farming is.

Farming and Grinding is your own fault.

If I didn’t farm (and thus played almost only WvW) I’d see the average of an ascended weapon per 2 months or more.

So no, farming could’ve been the playerbase’s fault BEFORE the introduction of 500 crafting.

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Farming and Grinding is your own fault.

1 dungeon run = .75 levels. That means you need 11 dungeon runs in 1 hour at the full experience amount which you won’t even get because of diminishing returns.
