Why is Anet nerfing every single farming location that players find?
Diminishing Returns, Lodestone/Loot drop rate

WTF Anet?

Why are you discouraging people from playing your game so much?

And please before people bring out the old “GW2 is built for casual players”
it that was the intent its a dumb intent, if GW2 is to survive it has to cater somewhat to hardcore MMO players, I love the revamped combat etc. but I want to have legendaries be possible to obtain…
i’ve farmed for 3 months solid now and still have all my t6 mats and precursor to go in addition to 100 onyx lodestones, 200+ oricalcum ore and about 170 ectos…
You are nerfing farming locations why?

You say that you didn’t expect people to get legendaries so fast?
how does that make sense? if people love a game and something in the game they will spend hours to obtain it I don’t understand why you want to slow down people from getting legendaries…
It was hard enough after plinx karma chain got nerfed and then the nightmare of Diminishing Returns occurred, but you just keep nerfing things?

Why?

Nerfing things is not a fix all solution and catering solely to casual gamers will not work out for you…

also don’t pull the “just play the game and have fun” what if I find grinding fun?
I like to grind if its achievable because if I grind I feel like I accomplished something at least in this game, then the nerf’s happened…

If its not reversed soon me and your player population will leave, heck you’ve already lost a lot of your player base

because of the gem store and being able to convert gold to gems. if people were able to bring in loads of gold they could essentially buy everything in the gem store without paying anet any money. they dont want that.

and as far as legendaries go, a lot of people who have multiple legendaries got them by exploiting.

his argument is right and wrong at the same time. obviously the only way to really make money in this game is to farm whether its dungeons or cursed shore or what not. anet didnt want people to be farm but since theres really no other way to get steady income, thats what were left with. and the gem store, thats teh big reason whether people want to admit it or not.

because this game is not about farming. There are plenty of MMOs that do allow farming. This one doesn’t. Most new ones don’t. And I would say that it’s a step in the right direction.

because you can’t run only a few dungeon paths a day, you couldn’t do several events, you can’t enjoy some alt leveling and play a bit of WvW? Do you really need to literally repeat the same activity over and over again to feel happy?
1 path of a higher level dungeon nets you around 1 gold, 1 map event guarantees 20 silver, but can give up to 60 or beyond, 1 guild mission weekly gives you 50 silver. It’s really not hard to make money in this game.

Farming makes you gold and that is not allowed in this game. Although it’s obviously possible to get rich, they want most of the playerbase poor for reasons I don’t understand. I think ANet believes and endless tunnel of grind for legendary and such will keep people going, but for me it does the complete opposite. If I were able to get the stuff I wanted without getting crap drops 24/7 and being a legendary garbage collector I would be playing this game a LOT more.

They keep some things casual, then throw in ridiculously insane RNG to cater to the ‘old ways’ which is funny because it’s even more grindy than other MMOs I’ve played for years, simply because of the RNG. It’s not so much the nerfing of farms that gets me, but the abysmal drop rates on everything. Being able to farm won’t fix that just make things even harder which ANet have accomplished..

I’ve been grinding for months and it feels like I moved maybe 2 steps closer to my goal which I’ve since completely given up on.

Back to WoW, make GW2 fun please.

you’re both essentially crying “I want my legendary now”. A legendary was designed to take years to get, hence legendary.

You obviously didn’t get the point that MANY people farm for a legendary. Also you don’t know why DR is in place only an Anet employee knows how it works and why they really use it.

People play mmos in different ways and some players actually enjoy farming.

those people then should probably find an MMO that allows it. Besides while Guild Wars 2 community is crying, Tera has a far harsher DR and people seem to be okay with it.

Oh and we know why DR is in place – if you read their posts you’d know to. Its in place to stop farming.

The RNG in wow is laughable. It’s not bad at all unless you want something that is actually rare and not just colored yellow and called rare. You can do raid finder and the rolls for gear is RNG but it’s a joke since you can go in the raids with pvp gear on. Getting gear in that game is beyond easy and I get a drop from EVERY mob.

Wow has the best loot and reward system of any mmo I’m playing. Neverwinter is a complete cash grab joke and probably won’t make it a year and Tera is just teraible. GW2 is no different but the keep their push to the gem shop under the radar with hidden loot nerfs and DR and RNG.

yeah, no. Got to level 80 in WoW. By now I would never catch up on raids. Sure you’ll get into the low tier ones, but the game is up to 15 tiers by now. Only about 5% of the whole game population actually seen the end game.
Then you compare it to guild wars 2 and say that it’s guild wars that doesn’t allow you to get stuff easily? Oranges left and right. And there you would be 1 tier away from the highest tier. Highest tier so far is only time gated and includes no RNG.

Ah finally someone that gets it and actually plays/played modern WoW, I swear everyone bagging on that game remembers it from vanilla and haven’t tried it since. It’s completely different, hardly any RNG or grind at all anymore. Want full epics? Take you a few days, no problem. Want legendary? Do awesome quests and catch up on the lore on the way, and by no means grind for it.

The game is less and less about gear every day and more about experiencing the game entirely even casuals can ‘raid’ now, this has been Blizzards mantra for a while.

Anytime ANET sees something that they think is too good. They nerfed it so bad that that its no longer even adequate or good enough.

It killing the game. You guys ANET let me make a comparison for you. you don’t need to shoot something 50 times to kill it in real life, it only takes one bullet. In game you dont need to nerf something so bad it becomes worthless.

Let me tell you what is going to happen if you keep this behavior up. You have already lost most of your PVP population. What was left of it consolidated on your top servers and even that is starting to dwindle.

The only real people you have left are PVE and RPG people, who like all the cutesy stuff and like to farm and do PVE. keep destroying farming all those PVE people will quit too. Then you will have no one.

I certainly don’t nkow about 3k lol but 80-85 was a completely different expansion than 85-90 so it’s to be expected. Leveling always takes longer in new expacs, in Cata leveling an alt 1 to 85 took a few days in full heirlooms. I’m not sure about pandaria because I haven’t rolled any alts I leveled straight from 85, you can be sure everything before 85 will be a very fast experience though.

Amount of quests don’t really mean much since there are a ton in WoW and a lot of them are very interesting and touch on lore which is why I don’t mind them. I don’t consider leveling a grind at all unless you’re racing to the finish line. I would experience it all again if I didn’t have every character at 85 or higher.

It would be an excellent point except for one small detail.

For each person who gives up and doesn’t go for it, a number of people will stay and keep grinding away. It’s all in the numbers.

If I were a business and 500 guys left because of this and 5000 guys stayed because of it, I’d be happy. No one has those numbers, but we know from experience, once someone gets everything they want in a game like this, odds are they’ll stop playing. People need stuff to work for.

And in most MMORPGs, particularly theme park ones, companies can’t produce content as fast as players consume content. So there’s always artificial ways to slow down progression, until such time as more content can be added.

So those that complain about how long it takes, how much grind it is, how hard it is to get a legendary are completely right. It’s hard. It takes a long time. It’s a stupid process…and one that is quite intentional and long term works for the benefit of the game.

Eventually it will be easier when more content comes out. Until then, I firmly believe we’ll lose far less people over not being able to get it than we will if it was so much easier to get.

Besides that player 1 should have spent over 1000 dollars to get one.
If you’re saying he got in on day 1, he would have had to a) crack the game to get from level 1 to 80 in a day, b) get extremely lucky with a precursor c) get full map explore in a day d) pay over 500 dollars e) hoard up both WvW and dungeon tickets. Because guess what? Legendaries only recently became an item that’s sold on the black lion. Therefore getting a legendary day 1 was completely impossible.
I also don’t know any people that bought their legendary using gems. Not a single one.

According to this in order to play the game you have to use the gem store.
1-player 1 got his legendary day 1 using gem store.
2- player 2 want to earn his legendary and refuse to use the gem store.
3- player 3 is poor and cant afford it.
Anet made it to take years to get a legendary (if you are unlucky with the precursor).
now tell me they are not pushing us to use the gem store.

You – don’t – need – a – legendary – PERIOD.

I think we have two slightly different topics here. The first is about farming and how ArenaNet deals with it. In my book, they do a pretty good job making farming as hard as possible and they most definitively should continue doing so. Farming is not healthy for a game, it just drains players time and forces them to do things that not all of them enjoy over and over again.
If you could decide for your own whether or not you want to farm ArenaNet shouldn’t interfere, but this is just not how it works. Farming people screw the eco for people who don’t want to farm and therefore force them to do so, that’s what has happend in almost every other theme park mmo and it would have happen to GW2 too if ArenaNet hadn’t taken countermeasures.
However, there are certain items in this game you can farm, but those are all account bound on pick up (fractal weapons, dungeon tokens, honor badges, …) and therefor cannot harm the eco.
The second topic is about legendaries and what a player has to do in order to get them. Here I do agree that ArenaNet did a rather bad job. Legendaries should have been tied to something like the Personal Story and shouldn’t require any non-accountbound mats at all.

lower drop rate = higher item price
mass gold produce (cof1) = lower gold value
people trade in gold for gem = bump in the gem price
high gem price = more people buy it with cash
mmo = cash cows.
they don’t make an mmo for a charity project. . .

and he can do so – after the initial 3 paths a person will still get full reward on all of his alts and 1/3rd of the reward if he continues to run it with the same character. It doesn’t decrease more than that and you don’t get locked out of the dungeon for running it too much.

what rational human being would pay thousands of dollars for a virtual effects sword? Nobody buys a legendary trough gems.

So where is all the gem supply come from? Obviously someone buys gem and sell them for in game gold, else there will be no supply. Unless you think there is a conspiracy theory.

But I think the truth is grind is a necessary evil. Many of my friend quit after they get their legendary. Many of my friend quit because they give up on legendary and dont’ know what to do.

Hack, I havn’t logon for a few days because I find no reason to grind any more. I farmed enough money to buy 7 personal bank express, 1 personal trading post, 2 perosnal merchant. 15k gem, 700 gold.

In the end I dont’ want to farm any more. Not because I dislike farming, it is because I dont’ know what I’m farming for.

The reality is beside Anet want to sell gem, they have to make grind as tedious as possible because they dont’ want people to run out of goals and quit.

Maybe. But by then our economy would be so inflated that it would be affordable. I recently bought that new lion cub. 400 gems cost me 14 gold. Pet was available for 7 days. Took me less than 2 days to get that money.

This game is designed for certain types of players. No game is designed for all players. I mean this is pretty self-evident, I shouldn’t have to justify the statement. Games have players they intend to satisfy.

This game was designed to be played by people who enjoy playing it. It probably wasn’t really designed for people who enjoy farming. This is why people who enjoy farming complain a lot about the drops and people who play like me almost never do. I get plenty of good drops…but I’m not farming. I just play the game.

This game was designed to be experential. You experience things. Those who enjoy the open world, really enjoy it, like me, have fun playing around in the open world. The drops are not my primary concern, and I just enjoy going around and having fun. Discovering stuff, dynamic events, helping people out. It’s fun for me. A couple of times a week I we do guild missions, and I find that fun. Every now and again I just into SPvP and have fun there. Even more often I enjoy some WvW. I’m never farming, per se. I’m just doing what I’d normally do.

I’ve leveled 6 professions to max level, still need to complete one more dungeon to get my dungeon master title, I’m level 19 in the fractals, and yes, I have a legendary (which I just got).

But I play the game for fun. The other stuff will get here when it gets here. The people who are most satisfied with this game probably play it more like I do.

The problem with hard core farmers is that they get rich. The harder it is to do the less people get rich doing it. The more rich people in the game, the higher the inflation which makes it hard on those new to the game or more casual people.

I support the anti-farming measures and hope they don’t something about CoF path 1 sooner rather than later.

So basically gem exchange rate is a conspiracy theory. And Anet just change gem exchange rate to anything they want?

If you want to defend Anet, that is probably not the best thing to say.

nope. When gold gets exchanged the rate goes up. When gems get exchanged the rate goes down. However the number of gems is unlimited. We’re not betting on 100 out of 10 000 gems. Nobody gets the “sorry we ran out of gems” message either.

Gems are not unlimited. There is a set amount of gems in the store, as explained by its designer. Once those gems are gone, if no one purchases more then there will be no more gems. Period.

The gem prices are rising because more people are turning gold into gems, and there are not enough gems entering the market to offset the gem loss, thus a increase in price. When prices fall, it’s players turning gems into gold. kitten pretty easy to understand.

……………………

Also, you’d be surprised what people pay. One of our members has dropped well over $1000 on this game so far. You see Legendaries selling all the time on the “shady” sites for $400-1000, literally daily.

For some people, that amount of cash is chump change.

Shouldn’t it work like this? If there are almost no gems. The price reach infinity and no one is able to buy gem because it is so expensive.

What you are saying is really a consipiracy theory. And Anet basically set gem price to anything they want.

Quite honestly I can’t say for sure. This topic comes up a few times on the black lion forum. From memory, base on the replys by John I believe it is limited.

But if gems are unlimited. Doesn’t that mean Anet just set the exchange rate to anything they want?

Since the whole point is people buy gem with real life cash sell that for gold, that is what set the rate.

As a quick aside. Gems in the currency exchange are finite. You may buy gems with real money to your hearts content, but if you don’t put any of them gems into the currency exchange the currency exchange’s stock of gems never changes.

Okay I misunderstood your post. It’s quite obviously the only gems that can be bought for gold are the ones people are selling. I’ve always understood that.

But the supply of gems itself is unlimited, because people can always buy more to sell…which is what I thought you were saying. There’s no limit to the number of gems Anet can sell, there is only a limit to the number of gems you can buy with gold at any time.
