I want my warrior to wear a skirt and slippers.

But I Cant.

I understand that there are race restrictions on armors, but class restrictions are… getting in the way of my passion for fashion.

Are there technical difficulties to have all class chose whatever they want to wear from all three professions? Or is this the way this game was made to make us play other classes for their armors.

I would love to chose a set of light armor (with medium here and there) on on top of my warriors helm so I can feel like a cloth designer.

+1 for this from me. There are so few fashion options for asura that finding a proper skirt is nigh impossible. This especially goes for leather armor asura, where your only option is leather pants and an overcoat.

Technical difficulties: nope. The armor types already exist for all the races and professions.
Balance difficulties: nope. There’s generic character models for PVP. Your character would still be restricted to their class’s armor type. Only the transmute restriction would be lifted.

I think with the introduction of outfits that this should be possible …. like … a warrior wouldnt wear a skirt or a corset in battle, well, not one thats not made out of metal anyways …. but I can go ahead and throw a exemplar outfit or natures oath outfit on her and voila! she looks like a mesmer …. if we can wear outfits that look like light armor then we should be able to wear light armor. Just makes sense. Why these are still locked (with the exception of cultural) remains a mystery to me.

I very much agree. Would love to have different weight armor skins available to my Characters.
Most of the time people cite ‘clipping issues’ as the biggest reason it’ll never happen. Though whenever anyone says that, I have to laugh because the clipping issues already around within same weight sets and even some of the Outfits.

If you had googled it, you would have found there have been numerous threads already on this.

Here is what ANet has said.

(Snip) …there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together.(Snip)

Anet should unlock these things and let us decide what works and what doesn’t even though that would take a hell of a lot of work and would likely require a reworking of how each armor piece works, thus taking part of the team off of more important parts of the game so that our warriors can wear skirts and slippers.

Fixed that for you.

Are you serious? The most common complaint I’ve seen about heavy armor is that too many of them look like skirts, even for males.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heavy_armor
Just look through there. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of “skirt” options.

Here’s just a few random examples; check out the galleries:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Braham's_Heavy_Armor_Skin Probably about the closest you’ll get to a non-metal type skirt.

If the OP is asking to have armor skins from all weight classes made available for all weights, that’s not gonna happen.

But if you try hard enough I’m sure you can come up with something.

There’s something charming about rangers.

There’s plenty of outfits already for people that REALLY want their warrior in a dress or their mage in plate mail. There’s no way anet is going to go back and redo hundreds and hundreds of armor pieces to get them to mesh together =/

Or maybe ANet.knows what’s doable and what’s not in there game.

The sooner people get over this that it’s not going to happen the better, same with dyeing weapons, it cannot be done for coding reasons.

The problem, is, as i understand, that you can’t mix the pieces of different armor weights. What could be done is to make your warior wear a full medium, or full light set. What wouldn’t work is to wear a mix of medium, light and heavy pieces.

On the other hand, some things (head covering) should easily be made interchangeable not only between different weigh classes, but between armor and outfits as well.

Actions, not words.

no! for a simple reason ! im a warrior ! i love my arah set ! i dont want mages and medium classes have it !!! thats only for ours !!!! and also i hate human mages coz they can wear human t3 and i so love it….. soooooo
as u can see if what u ask happens all theses love and hatred will be meaningless !

also!!! i would feel weird in bikini using my hundred blade skill on a boss…. it will feel like a korean game !
but beside joking that is true outfits ruin these all and well there r ligher outfits than lightest gears for mages in game , but those are outfits, they dont give much prestige XD and i only use them for rp ….and there r realy not many people use outfits( many just buy to show theyr support and love to anet),

The other alternative as I have suggested before, is at least to make all complete armour SETS available as outfits. So you can have a silk profession character in full Phalanx for example, but not piecemeal parts.

That sounds like “we know it should be possible but we simply don’t want to do it because we designed it too restrictive in the first place”.

That sounds like “we know it should be possible but we simply don’t want to do it because we designed it too restrictive in the first place”.

It depends on how cynical you are maybe. I read it as “we wish it could be possible but we simply can’t do it because we designed it too restrictive in the first place.”

From other threads I’ve read that the dye channels on different pieces aren’t the same and they would have to be redesigned to make them fit as they conflict with the dye channel options on the hero panel. The seams are in different places depending on the weight. For example the chest piece seam on heavy appears to be at the waist and that clashes with medium armor chest pieces that have a seam further down.

Personally, when someone tells me something is fundamentally incompatible I don’t assume it’s possible without a major rework. If they tell me there really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together then I’m likely to think that there’s really no way. But that’s me. Some people are more dismissive of the amount of work implied or are more cynical.

Yes, it’s restrictive and yes, they don’t want to put the effort in, and that’s because they’d rather put the effort into other things, which is exactly why they made that restriction in the first place.

So, it’s more like: “we designed things this way to free us up to release more armor sets more often, in exchange for losing some flexibility in the styles available for each weight. We continue to feel that the current system, with its flaws, works well enough that it’s not worth taking resources away from other projects to change it.”
