Just thought it would be interesting to see what other people liked when they played MMOs. Please note if you’re talking pvp or pve since that changes how you play quite a bit. Here goes for me. Mostly pve since I’m getting used to GW2 still.

-I’ve liked playing condi builds since in the game I came from condition damage was pretty much ignorable. Watching enemies simply melt was a pretty neat experience for the first time.
-I also enjoy “in your face” classes that relied on something other than pure defense to avoid getting hit. For some reason I’ve almost never played the rogue archetype for long before, but playing thief here has been a blast.
-In my last game, I really enjoyed a magic class with very heavy cc, to the point I could perm-root a single target. Most fun I ever had in pvp was facing multiple enemies with about my level of gear.
-Not so much a class type, but I’ve always loved move speed. For normal questing, a necro with locust signet, spectral walk, and focus for locust swarm has been great with near permanent 58% move speed.

What I have problems with:
-Never liked warrior classes. I have tried, and I know there can be a ton of skill involved, but overall it just seemed to simple for me. Plus, being a 6’1" guy who’s not quite a beanpole, I like playing characters that are a bit more different than the real me.
-Bow people. I love the concept, but playing them has always seemed boring. The only exception I’ve found are snipers in sw:tor. I know most people don’t seem to want a sniper spec for thief, but I’d be very pleased if I could get a similar experience here.
-Healer. This is another where I love the concept. The only problem is I’m too anti-social and am usually by myself. Healers solo make for very boring playthroughs.

So, what are everyone else’s thoughts?

For PvE:

In your face classes and builds. This includes thieves, warriors, and kind of guardians. I enjoy having to know boss attacks and when to dodge. I also love hitting really high numbers which is why teef is my favorite.

Complex classes with hard roles. This includes engineers, elementalists, and guardians. The first two are my favorite classes in the game (besides teef) since they have hard rotations, (even staff ele has rotations when you need utility) and they deal a ton of damage. They also have a lot of things to be mindful of, knowing what utility to bring and when to use what. Guardians I am ambivalent of because in dungeons they are boring as heck but in fractals they are extremely fun to play because of how much work they do.

Playstyles i dont like: condi, healer, tank. I used to like condi, but i now enjoy seeing my damage upfront in one large number. Also condi fields are a nightmare for stacking might….. Healer’s and tank’s bore me, i like challenges where i am in a disadvantage, and even though there isn’t that much opportunity for this in group settings in gw2 i feel like glass is as close as you can get.

For PvP:

I really only like mesmer at the moment. It’s complex, it’s hard and you are almost always at a disadvantage. It requires map knowledge, enemy knowledge, and the ability to land a difficult burst. I am extremely rusty but i learn a little bit every match and the kiting aspect is just amazing.

The only other playstyle i am partial to is s/d thief. It also requires a ton of knowledge and even though it has a lot of fail safes, it is not nearly as easy as meta d/p. Crit strikes is a close second but s/d animations are so sick.

Every other class i have tried and just don’t enjoy in pvp. Sometimes i go s/f ele and warrior but that’s it.

I mainly PvP and I only run a Dagger Dagger Thief build. Nearly full Berserker’s gear. I enjoy this because If I make even one mistake, I will die for it. If I miss a backstab, misstime my revealed debuff. Anything. I like the “Avoid getting hit” rather than “Tank every hit”.

All-in-all? PSO specialist ranger.
High range, and high accuracy to proc special abilities (paralyze, confuse, freeze, etc… With my favourite, of course, being the ability to fourth HP)

Seeing as the class structure in this game (unfortunately) doesn’t support something like that, I was more keen on having an evasion-heavy, max-range squishy type of class… A class that plinks away at health while using evades, knockbacks, etc. to stay at 1500+ range. Something like what I envisioned a rifle thief as before release.
Out of what we got? Longbow ranger. At least I have good range. :-/

I generally don’t like melee.
I’ll faff about with it for a bit (Trying to proc instant death via S-Beats blades in PSO, for example), but even in that game (where I opposed it least), I always found range more enjoyable. Until MMOs start to play like Devil May Cry or Zelda (controller and all), I doubt I’ll ever be big on melee.

Gone for good after Halloween 2Ø12.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.

Of all time, prolly Bounty Hunter, like as in SWG pre-cu/pre-nge. There’s nothing like hunting Jedii players. Anything assassin like; stealth, high dps with lowish armor, range and melee, tracking/probing, dirty tricks, good payouts, tears.
