So my spectral wall had a fear duration of 1 second and a quarter. I have since put 6 Superior runes of the Necromancer on and 4 points in spite, yet it seems to have had no effect on fear duration at all. What am I doing wrong? I’m level 60 if this matters. I’ve asked in Guild chat, LA, PvP, nobody has even replied!

If you are looking at the tooltip it is not very reliable. It’s just displaying the closest quarter second. With 70% increased duration it shows 1 and 3/4.

In the past, I’ve noticed there to be inconsistencies in fear durations. In particular, when running terror, I have been able to receive a different number of damage ticks despite not changing anything with the build.

In my case, it seemed to be linked to pre-existing conditions being on the target. For instance, if I did mark of blood and then reaper’s mark, I would receive one more tick of damage than if I did reaper’s mark on it’s own. In my case, I was also using runes of the necromancer to achieve +100% fear duration.

However, since they’ve gone to the partial tick system, I’ve never retested it.

In any case, the tooltips have always been slightly inaccurate at best. I think it was perhaps calculating the duration increase from either master of terror or the runes of the necromancer incorrectly, but I couldn’t determine which.

In any case, I’m not sure that being below level 80 should have any influence on this. If you’re just going off the tooltips, try to hit an actual enemy with spectral wall and see if the duration changes if you change your traits or unequip your armour. Note that it will always round to quarter seconds in the tooltips though.

Remember, conditions tick every 1 s, based on the games clock, not on when you apply the conditions. If you apply a 1.5s fear then you will always get 1 tick, but depending on when you apply it in relation to the game clock you may get a second tick of damage as well. The only way to guarantee a second tick is to get it OVER 2s in duration.

Not sure how it is with Terror but that shouldn’t be the case with other conditions anymore. Unless the condition gets removed there should no longer be any damage loss due to fractional seconds in the duration.

With Terror, it’s the trait dealing the damage, not the condition. As such, it got overlooked when the change occurred.
