Why does it matter if the gem store will have convenience items? They are not needed, they are not necessary for play. The gem store may be pay to shortcut, but only for needless things (those boosters, clothes, and minis aren’t necessary to the core functionality of the game). They don’t even have much of an advantage difference.

I urge people to play actual P2W MMORPGs out there (any in which there is an in game currency->cash shop currency, but still heavily advantaged towards cash), and then compare it to GW2’s gem store. I’m talking about the games with OP armor in the stores, insane stat boosts, etc. There is a vast difference between what can be found in those games versus what can be found in the gem store.

I highly doubt that ANet will go down the path of throwing outrageously cash advantaged items into the gem store. They’re actually super tame in comparison to the beasts out there.

Also, unidentified dyes will still be available through laurels, it wouldn’t make sense to remove that.

No it IS pay to not grind. I was fine with the cash shop at the beggining, becuase gold gave you no stat advantage, running dungeons gave you exiotic gear in a very respecatable amount of time to discard worries that being able buy gold with real money to buy full exiotic gear was a problem.

However with ascended gear the grind for a person starting with no gold is…. absolutely immense, its a freaking mountain to climb compared to the hill that exiotic gear was.

Thats when the real money to gems conversion became Pay to Not Grind.

I will never EVER obtain a full set of ascended gear simply by doing things I like (End game dungeons / SPvP ) , my chances of winning the powerball are higher.

There are two ways to get ascended gear.

1. Pay real money
2. Spend HUNDREDS of hours in a champ train praying to god almighty i get decent drops, and maybe lightning could strike twice and a precursor could drop.

so… pay real money… or spend hundreds of hours doing something I’d rather not do. That’s not playing the game that’s grinding and you know it.

That’s how MMOs are though. The only option is to make the gear obtainable using different methods though all will end up being time-consuming, being considered grind.

Yes but they dont allow people to simply buy that gratification. I wouldn’t mind riding the champ train if I knew everyone else had to.

As sad as this sounds, 1 hour of minimum wage = 50-75 gold

And when that 50-75g can buy me a stat advantage over people who are having to spend 100+ hours in game, that’s a problem.

Gear should be obtained by overcoming challenging content in game, not by grinding or paying money…

Chellenging content gets casual after trying it few times, ending up in grinding again. There is nothing called challenging or fun content, it all turns to grind after trying it for once or twice, it is just an ilssuion, nothing more, nothing less.

Thats why MOST devs add new endgame content once every 4 months at the very least… Unlike ANET who apparently thinks its OK to keep fractals up for 1 year 7 months? as the endgame dungeon.

So ya if you have almost 2 years to practice something it becomes pretty dang easy, but in most games you given a few months at most.

but I mean we would miss out on gems like the scarlet arc if anet wanted to do somthing like add more dungeon / raid content.

No, playing the game is not grind. Raiding is not grind. It requires constant skill and execution.

Grinding in a champion zerg train requires neither, and in no other mainstream MMO are you able to get legendaries without playing the game, rather just buying them outright via an auction house.

I hope it is OK, to reedit the title, after it was “fixed” by a mod.

I hope the new titel is appropriate and still acceptable.
