Q:
Feature Patch = Polish, not content
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/august-12-2014/
Stay tuned for the next content patch, woooo..
There are a lot of players grumbling, myself included, about not getting the many types of content people have been frequently asking for on these forums. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that feature patches are more about polish than about content.
Well it is a feature patch, so yeah it is logical that it doesn’t contain content.
Features != content
Is…. is this post serious? I’m really unsure, because I have no idea how Anet could be more clear about the purpose of a feature patch being unrelated to content patches.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
Yeah, many here in the forums thinks that Feature update = Content update, and that is a bit sad, but kinda understandable.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
When an update contains mainly polish, that typically means either the developers have been doing some vacation time (who’d athunk it? summer…vacation….summer…vac..) and/or are working on other larger and typically more extensive projects. I don’t know the internals so I can’t guess as to projects for this game or something else, but polish is typically idle work that has been going on for some time and is being brought together and pushed live.
I am fine with occasional polish updates. Not sure why so many get bent out of shape cause their beloved content X, Y, or Z isn’t the feature each and every few weeks.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…

Even if it isn’t, your stance of, " I can’t believe this, are you serious" attitude only agitates readers and the OP, it screams I don’t respect you, and in response no one will respect you.
Yeah, many here in the forums thinks that Feature update = Content update, and that is a bit sad, but kinda understandable.
How is it understandable?

The majority of end-users consumers are stupid.

Features != content
So why the feature patch doesn’t contain any feature ? It should have been called fix patch.

Feature:
/?f?CH?r/
Noun
a distinctive attribute or aspect of something.
The features of this patch were: Balance (notably bug fixing and getting things more inline with each other, but not on a large scale even though it took 6 months), and ease of access/QoL.
While I don’t think this was worthy of a 6 month wait and mumbo jumbo I have a bigger kitten than you (no really, my cat is huge) blah blah everything sucks… if they didn’t give us the previews, we would have had 300g color-specific commander tags
I don’t undestand totally your response sorry. Seems you talked about bug fixes though, but since my return i’m stuck in place at least once an hour, and some traits that worked simply doesn’t work anymore. I still don’t get your response.

Dear ArenaNet Devs:

You have come to a conclusion that many of your peers lack the sense to reach.
Good job.
[ninja’d with definition of “feature”.]

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Except one doesn’t have to use vast deductive skills on this. The devs have outright said it would not be a content patch. So it’s mind boggling how many players are raging when they didn’t get content the devs said they wouldn’t get.
sigh
Features deal with systems (like the trading post, the wardrobe, loot distribution algorithms).
Content deals with ‘playable’ components (new maps, skills, story instances).
Please learn the difference. Anet has spelled this out for us more than a few times now.
Except when they include certain maps.

tl;dr
THAT’S WHAT THE FEATURE PATCH IS FOR.
Polish.
Not “content”.
It’d be great if we could merge some of these “not enough content” threads. And the mount ones. And the…

some people don’t read and make crazy assumptions.

Man… if only we actually got some features like that.* New maps, new missions, condition dmg fix, new skills, new game modes…. what happened to those things?
*TP overhaul is probably on equal ground as those features

Actually inspite of everyone in the thread saying its obvious, it is actually not obvious. 3 out if 7 of the examples of what to expect in a feature patch according to the quote would fall under content.
Guild missions
Pvp map
Wvw xp system/wvw skills.
If we had gotten for example 20 new skills 20 new traits, more expansive guild missions and new mission types, and a new pvp map, that would have probably been the type of content the op is talking about, and that apparently is considered features.
Of course a feature patch doesn’t include content updates.
I just think the frequent flaming over the feature patch should be clear: People want more kitten content already. Not just talking about Living Story…but new content. A completely new area (Crystal Desert, perhaps) – more to Maguuma Wastes, a new dungeon, new rewards, new armor skins, new weapon skins, new skills, new types of weapons…
One map per year isn’t that grand. Yes, it takes time…but should it really take this much time?
The game is free, and I appreciate that – it’s why I don’t expect content rollout to come about as frequently as WoW…but at some point shouldn’t the devs stop worrying about polishing everything and start releasing content at a stable rate, doing polishing underneath as a side note? Why are they spending a month announcing QoL updates and polishes?
Even with being a free MMO, it’s kind of aggravating. I think I dislike it more too because if I were ever that slow at a job, I would get fired.
I’d like to see:
LS every 2 weeks
1 armor set every month (which would be 3 – light, medium and heavy)
1 weapon set every month
1 dungeon every 6 months
1 map every year.
It’s something I think should be fairly reasonable for a buy-to-play MMO.
This hasn’t been the case though.
What we have are 30 new full armor sets (only 10 per profession), 5 half-armors that apply to all professions.
About 17 or so new weapon themes.
One new dungeon path.
And 3/4 of a map so far…over 2 years, I might add.
I know ANet feels it might isolate some of the newer players, but I really don’t think it will. As long as the content is kept in a meaningful and reasonable pace, new players will be able to pick up the game and get to it relatively quickly.

See, if you had just said Feature Patch = polish, not Features, you could have avoided so many snotty replies by smug people.

I could be wrong but doesn’t SouthSun count as a new Map?

Have you submitted bug reports? I don’t have either of these issues. Perhaps the problem with “getting stuck,” at least, is at your end.
I could be wrong but doesn’t SouthSun count as a new Map?
It’s a half a map. There are no completion objectives, few if any Easter eggs, and a few events.
See, if you had just said Feature Patch = polish, not Features, you could have avoided so many snotty replies by smug people.
Probably not, since there are a lot of new features in this update. To be sure, some are “features” that some of us hoped would be in the game at launch, but I’m happy the game came out without them, so we could be playing these last two years.
Perhaps a better question might have been, “when do we see the types of features (or content) I’d like to see, e.g. ______” Then, the definition of feature/content/polish isn’t important.
