Because all my characters were level 80, I initially didn’t realize that all traits need to be unlocked individually now. Hah! And to think I initially felt cheated about the skill manuals I’d bought for everyone. Now I consider myself lucky for having 15 level 80s already leveled up.

When I looked through the list of tasks to do to unlock traits, I feel that every character (regardless of race or profession) having to do the same tasks is extremely repetitive. I am unsure if I could do 15 characters if I had to do it all over again. I also felt that an opportunity was lost to make the leveling process more flavorful.

I think that at least every profession should (at least partially) have its own task list. It would be like having their own journey of discovery. Let me give you some examples of what I mean…

Engineer
- Beat the Golem Mk 2 in Mt Maelstrom
- Visit the giant Dredge drill in Bloodtide Coast
- View the vista at the Tribulation Rift Scaffolding jumping puzzle in Dredgehaunt Cliffs

Elementalist
- Defeat the Fire Elemental in Metrica Province (gets a specific Fire trait)
- Defeat the Ice Elemental in Wayfarer Foothills (gets a specific Water trait)
- Defeat the Modnir Shaman in Harathi Hinterlands (gets a specific Air trait)

Mesmer
- Defeat the evil Raven Shaman in Snowden Drifts
- Liberate the Temple of Lyssa (Mesmers get 2 traits from this as Lyssa is the ‘patron god’ of Mesmers)

The above are just some examples of how a new character would journey the world and visit a marvel of their profession or defeat some great foe and gain insights. It would show players the beautiful world of Tyria especially if ultimately, you create one character of each profession. I do see liberating all the Temples and Gate of Arah as a common thread to all professions as that’s the whole point of the game up to now (i.e. defeating Zhaitan).

So, in conclusion I realize that its probably too late for implementation (something for the future perhaps) but I feel that the way traits are obtained now is way too generic and would make leveling up new characters very repetitive especially for new players.

I think it’s stupid that you have to go out in PvE and get them! I’m a WvW / PvP player and I dislike PvE much.

I don’t know if there is main thread about that but, since i’m a wvw player only as well, i agree with you.
Though to make another toon for run but till there will be this system.. no more characters for me.

Worst system ever forcing people playing pve or wasting money for unlock traits.

There is a main thread, but it is now 17 pages long and growing. This thread will probably end up shuffled onto the end.

It is a very poorly implemented system. WvW players don’t foray into PvE very much, so forcing them to do so after all this time is just silly. And expecting PvP players to either play all the way to Orr, or shell out hundreds of wins worth of rewards for a couple of traits is just bassackwards. Requiring the exact same unlocking parameter for 8 different traits across 8 different classes solely based on the number they are is so lackluster it hurts. The whole reward system has to be mulled over again. I’m fine with doing content to unlock things, just make that content reasonable/not obtuse.

Apparently some traits even require map completion, which seems kind of overboard to me.

Over a year and the forum search is still broken = /

Map completion of maps considerably higher than the level it is to actually use the trait, at that. Such as Iron Marches, Dredgehaunt Cliffs, Fireheart Rise, and Frostgorge Sound. Oh and also up to personal story level 59 (that I know of, some may be higher) and story mode completions of dungeons, such as Sorrow’s Embrace. All of these things, for level 36 trait spots. Seriously needs rethinking.

You know you can just buy them right? Also, correct me if I’m wrong but don’t PvP players have everything unlocked to begin with?

I made a new character to try it out. When he hit 80 he had 12/65 traits and I actually kinda was trying to get them. Working on the story dungeons now and it’s been pretty painful. Not everyone is as sensible as me and waits until 80 to do them. xD

I am very grateful that my pre patch lowbie alts do not have to do all this, and that I had most classes already.

they don’t have the new traits unlocked.

And buying all the traits you have to ove to get for WvW, isn’t exactly cheap

Hah! And to think I initially felt cheated about the skill manuals I’d bought for everyone.

I already laughed about all those people that wanted to have refunds for that since i was 99,99% sure that the new system would be waaaaay more expensive.

And i also think it is totally nonsense that you need to complete a lvl 80 Zone for a lvl 36 trait :

Adept (arcane)

Arcane Mastery- complete caudecus’s manor in Story Mode
Map: Queensdale

Renewing Stamina- Kill the foulbear chieftain and her elite guards.
Map: Fields of Ruind

Final Shielding- Complete the story step “Retribution” (lvl 59)
Map: Lion’s arch

Vigorous Scepter- Earn 100% completion in Dredgehaunt Cliffs.
Map: Dredgehaunt Cliffs

Blasting Staff- Earn 100% completion in sparkfly Fen
Map: Sparkfly Fen

Windborne dagger- Earn 100% completion in Frostgorge Sound
Map: Frostgorge Sound

Complete list here : Trait’s unlocked: What needs to be done. : Guildwars2

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
