Support is already being discussed for gem store refunds. I am one of the people that bought many, many cultural armors, but I don’t really mind that. I think if Anet had any line to draw across “what can we consider compensating” it would start with legendaries. They do not compare to other investments.

But that is what we’re saying, that line would be even more unfair for alot people and thus is why, as I mentioned earlier, that compensation is the best option, but would be extremely hard to attein. Plenty of people already said, take advantages of this feature, don’t take only the disadvantages, even thought there is none….

This is not feudal Japan. In the end, a game is a paid service. Compensation is not a GIFT, they are completely different by definition. People are not LOSING this feature if not implemented, as it does not even exist yet. Any company operating on reasonable business ethics will take the concerns of customers seriously, as this results in better products, and continued business. This is not an issue of failing to satisfy, this is an issue of changes effecting consumers in a potentially negative way.

People are giving valid reasons as to why THIS change may not be the best way to address the ROOT problem, which is the purpose of change to begin with. This is why there is a feedback thread. If this change negatively effects even a small part of the player base, that does not make the issue any less important. Games and companies for that matter, don’t lose all their consumers at once, it happens in tiny chunks of “less important” people. Surely, if you just ignore concerns for the sake of progression, it will do much more harm than good.

Yes, but what I mean is that this “small chunk of people” are not losing anything.

Note : by losing the feature, I meant removing announced part of it being removed, not actualy losing.

I really don’t get why everyone is so upset. With the new system, some people get an advantage, some people don’t, but nobody get’s any disadvantages on their equipment compared to the way it was before.
And Legendaries really aren’t as prestigious as some people here seem to think. Do you really think that players that don’t own any Legendaries will stay still next to you for a few seconds and look up to you in admiration, respect and envy whenever you pass them by?
Right now there’s such a ridiculous amount of players with Legendaries in the game that it really isn’t anything that special at all.
When I started playing a year ago and saw a Twilight, I was like “Wow this thing looks really awesome” but now it’s just “Another Twilight… uhuh, oh, I’m gonna kill that Moa over there for my dailies”

Yes, actually, it literally happened yesterday. There are still people who are impressed by them.

I still think any items in the game should be in the wardrobe, as if we consider every player, than any weapon or armors may be hard earned. I said and alot said, it’s impossible to satisfy everyone, enjoy the change. Conpensation could always be a more then appreciated gift for those that have duplicates, that is if ANet desired. I’d surely like my T3s refund, but I don’t want others to lose from this feature in exchange for myself.

In the first month of GW2 making karma was hell (only from events), people still managed to get 1mil karma necessary for their legendaries. Then everything started giving Karma (dailies, dungeons, FoTM) getting 1mil karma was a matter of days. So people who farmed events for weeks got screwed, but that didn’t mean the change to karma was bad.

Skins should be for yourself, not for bragging. You farmed, hunted or paid 2-3k for something you wanted on your character. Making it more accessible should make you happier since it’ll be easier for you to get more!

lol. thank you for making a statement fully supported by opinion only. Karma farming was diversified to stop people from event karma farming in orr, as that was the most efficient way at the time. Many people would call what you described, a nerf to orr farming vs the other way around.

Please read any posts or articles from Anet concerning the concept or ideas for legendary weapons, and feel free to link where it says anything remotely similar to your opinion of them not being for show or recognition.

If they’re going to account-bind legendaries, I think they should remove it from the wardrobe.

You get to share your legendary gear between characters since they are account bound so that’s not a problem anymore, and it would avoid problems such as the before-mentioned Eternity-making exploit to unlock 2 free legendaries.

The reasons people would complain now about removing them from the wardrobe would be either if you can’t deal with the effort of stuffing your sword into the bank when you want to switch playing on another character, or if you want to dual-wield legendaries without the effort of making 2.

Which is exactly what ANet is trying to promote. They want to reward player that worked hard to getting skins by allowing them to reuse that skin on other items. Quit seeing this only for legendaries, there is much more to it then legenday.

You can only switch the legendary between level 80 characters – the Wardrobe will allow legendary owners to use the skin on alts that are still leveling. And since that will require plenty of charges to continually upgrade the weapon – why wouldn’t ANet want to encourage it?

I don’t really see why would anyone be reasonably annoyed if they removed legendaries from the wardrobe.

In fact, why would you even make another say, greatsword if you made a legendary one? The only reason I can think of is if you want to be able to swap characters halfway into a fractal/dungeon run.

I know that being able to transfer weapon between character is a nice addition, but all these changes are about quality of life. A lot of people play 3-4 different characters and having to switch weapon every time just to do 1 dungeon or even 1 part of a dungeon is annoying, I have permanent bank access which make it really easy for me, but not many people do.

And having skins allow you to have different sigils for different situations. I have a foefire with an Undead sigils just for Arah, I would have prefered a sunrise or twilight skin, but it was too much work just for 1 dungeon.

Because would many people consume a charge on a leveling alt? You’re wasting a lot of money there.

Some people could have save gold by getting only one and skinning the second, but this change doesn’t have any negative feedback by itself. Some people’s ego is getting hurt, but that’s because of their pessimist perception of things.

This isn’t a question of ego for a lot of players. This isn’t a comparison to how other people have it easier, or really any comparison to the rest of the player base. Nor is it an economic thing. The situation is plain and personal: some made a 2nd skin, at great cost, and then Arenanet gave it to us for free at a later date. I thank them for that, as it was the goal all along, but it leaves us with a great deal of wasted time and effort to reflect on.

You can say that about every duplicate item some one has across characters. Where do you draw the line? You cannot compensate everyone and I do not believe they should, including myself. To me this is a great feature and I will take advantage of the positive of it and not look at the negatives. So I got to of the same legendary, so be it. I know that they will remain the best gear in the game if new armor sets are introduced.

It is a game. Eventually you will quit or the servers will shut down and at that point every second of time spent becomes “wasted” (sunk). Enjoy the ride. Anyone who made two still has them and can (should) be able to enjoy the game just as much as if this change never happened.

I trust ArenaNet will make the right decision and stick to having legendary skins in the wardrobe. It’s far more elegant to introduce an overwhelmingly positive change and come up with a solution for the 0.1% of negatively affected players, than to completely scrap the idea. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who would rather see the latter happen for very selfish reasons as displayed by their comments in this thread.

That is the attitude a lot of people are bringing to this thread that haven’t even been effected. They need to defend the wardrobe feature and advocate that it not be removed. But I can assure you that anyone that made two legendaries wanted two legendaries. They wanted what the wardrobe will accomplish. There’s no need to defend it. Compensation is difficult, but I think we should continue to discuss solutions. Consider removing the wardrobe off the table, no worries.

There cannot be a solution when there is no problem. People got in-game stuff. They still have it. I see no problem.

Bring on the changes.

I agree that anyone who is dual wielding legendaries should get bigger aura/footprints, etc. However, that should just have been there already, not because of the new features. You did make 2, so why not twice the brilliance and flash?? Here’s another analogy… if I buy two diamond earrings instead of one, I have more bling. Two legendaries = more bling. Makes sense to me.

BTW some of you who quoted me above simply did not comprehend my analogies or why I espoused them. I’m sorry for your incrompehension but they still stand and they must make sense to the majority of readers.

As a person that has been playing since closed beta and still doesn’t have a legendary… thank you. i have enough for 7 eternity atm, though i rather still craft my first one ~ it goes from leveling my other toons, doing dungeons, doing world events, and gathering materials. i get side tracked way too quickly and easily, so thanks to for making legendary weapons account bound.

lol, this thread is ridiculous..

if people have such increadible complexes over it, if someone wields now a fake-legendary, or not, to have their own egos stroked for goodness sake, that “they are somethign better”, than everyone else, then god darnit it, make a stupid gearcheck system so that people can see, what an equipment someone is wearign, without that the person needs anymore to manually link it into the chat and good is and everyones kitten is happy >.>

Seriously…

people have really childish complexes here over their legendaries…

Nowaydays run so many people already with tons of legendaries around, that you can’t take these weapons so or so anymore for beign something “special”, especialyl due to the stupid point, that every idiot can just buy them from day 1 on from the T, if you just push enough ral money into the game to convert it into gems to get instantly all the gold you need to buy it from tp…

Your complains here are out of my view due to this completely laughable.
This change is a good one, because it finally removes to a certain point the unfairness between 2H legedaries and 1H legendaries.
Why should someone, who plays with 1H weapons have to be in the disadvantage to have to grind 2x the stuff for a legendary to get a complete legendary weapon basically, where one ,who plays with a 2h weapon is done after getting just 1 weapon??

That problem is partwise solved (at least for dual wielding with the same weapon type, using 2 different 1h weapons is again a topic for itself, that doesn#t get solved with that change sadly) with this very good change now, now are all players, regardless of you play. However, its a good beginning and I’m sure, Anet will find for that other issue also a solution anywhen later.

There shouldn’t be any difference in regard of efforts between getting 2H legendaries and 2 1H legendaries. Fulfilling both ways should require of a player exactly the same amount of effort.
Howeve,r to make it a final solution, anet would have to make first getting 1H legendaries slightly easier than getting a 2h legendary by reducing for example the amount of materials that are required to craft the gifts for a 1H weapon by splitting these costs in half. That would be only fair.

instead of complaing about “Fake-Legendaries”, you should rather complain about it, why anet lets legendaries be sellable in the TP, even now that they make them accountbound on use instead of how it would be better, makign them accountbound directly, so that the stuff can’t be sold anymore in the TP and simply refund those people, who placed legendaries into the TP for sell the 15% TP fee of gold in slow steps, so that the game economy doesn’t get affected so much…

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Yeah, I don’t think it says that legendaries (and ascended weapons) will be exempt from the wardrobe. They could be exempt, of course. But I don’t think the latest blog post says they will be.

(Also, even if they are, that leaves duplicate Whisperblades, Infinite Lights, Volcanuses, etc. to be dealt with, although I know that’s not the topic of this thread.)

Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.

The concern over cloning a legendary or any 1h-skin into your other hand needs to stop being argued with ‘where does the compensation end? What about t3 sets? etc etc….’ These are not comparable, and here is why. Armor sets and two-handed weapons, as well as 1h’ers going in the same slot, are different items for the sake of stats. You did not have two halves to your t3, of which people now only need 1 half to create the full appearance. The issue with cloning is exactly that – taking an item you have one of and SHOWING two. I don’t care frankly if you have one bolt and you have countless copies with different stats – but when you start taking that backup bolt and throwing it in the left-hand free of any charge besides transmutation, I have a problem. Please, recognize that these are separate. This qualifies for expensive skins like infinite light – it shouldn’t matter if you have multiple copies for different situations, but when that copy is equipable without equal effort, I find issue.

TL;DR – the ‘where does compensation end’ conversation is simple – when players’ past efforts are nullified with CLONING that misrepresents your efforts, not just when someone happened to have 2 of something.

It just… so doesn’t affect you at all what other people look like. That’s what I can’t, and won’t ever understand. Good luck though.

I agree, the only problem i have is the Eternity trick people are saying they want to do (which to be honest nobody knows if it can be done) IMO if you don’t have a legendary you shouldn’t have the skins for it that being if you made Eternity you should lose Twilight and Sunrise skins, then when you equip it you gain them back again.

This is being plain ridiculous… I can’t understand in anyway how is making the legendary only account and not into the wardrobe gonna make you guys happier. (Because clearly this is what you are asking for). This is just over me. I’m just gonna wait for a dev to post or a post to explain the situation. I changed my mind for people with dual legendary same skin, you guys don’t even kitten deserve a refund, you whiny cowards. Trying to get those legendaries out of the wardrobe even before it’s out and before you see how they thought of implementing it. Ugh, discusting.

Well thanks for the wish of luck, though I can’t shake the thought it was not entirely heartfelt. Frankly, I don’t care what other people look like. What I care about is what I look like – I could have looked the same as I do now, sans 3 months effort, and I don’t think arenanet is doing people in our position justice with this update, which I will say again is primarily a good addition. I, as well as many others in this thread, are offering our feedback on how it could be tweaked so as not to invalidate our past efforts.

EDIT: I should say I do care somewhat what other people look like, as my above paragraph did seem to indicate as such, but only so much as that their visible gear indicates their work, and marginally so.

Having multiple skins of the legendary is not the same as having multiple legendarys, because only the appearance crosses over, not the stats. The person that buys two legendary daggers still has the advantage over the person that buys one and skins a second to look like it Since you already earned the legendary you have the right to do whatever you will with it, but aesthetics is still secondary to stats, to truly having a second or third legendary, so those of you who do, will lose nothing by this change.

LAST EDIT! SUCCESS! WE LOVE YOU ANET! Newest blog post here regarding account bound legendaries instead. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/account-bound-wxp-legendaries-and-ascended-gear/

Unless I really misread this article, it doesn’t say anything about removing legendaries from the wardrobe — just that they’ll be account bound rather than soul bound.

The new blog post regarding Legendaries is interesting and welcomed for sure.

But WHERE DOES IT MENTION anything about a change to their initial Wardrobe skins plan?

So now it seems to me it’s even better, players can not only transfer a Legendary tier item across an infinite number of characters, but also pull out the skin itself from the wardrobe an infinite number of times.

There is no precise confirmation, but the word “instead” in “As part of this change, we will convert all the existing ascended and legendary equipment that is soulbound to be account-bound instead.” compared to the previous blog post where they explained the wardrobe. If you want to comment on the use of the word “instead”, they weren’t saying what thought they were overwriting, but it would be automatically assumed, that they are doing this rather than putting it in the wardrobe system.

great, so the edit note in bold in your top post of the thread nullifies all 12 pages of ranting simply based upon another assumption. splendid.

Ok, let’s try this interesting experiment -

Let’s say dual wielding legendaries required an upkeep cost. For example, there is no upkeep on the first legendary, but every day you wanted to be able to use a 2nd bolt or incinerator you would need to buy one new spark plug that expires after 24 hours of real life time. How much gold would you be willing to pay each day that you play for this spark plug?

ANet specifically used Twilight as an example in the Wardrobe blog:

That means that if you made Twilight, you will have access to both the Twilight and Dusk skins across your entire account.

The sentence you cite from today’s blog is only saying that items that are currently soul-bound will now be account-bound. So if someone has Twilight on his/her Warrior, it can now be used on that person’s Mesmer instead. That’s it. There is nothing in today’s blog posts that suggests ANet will be dropping the legendaries from the Wardrobe.

I read the “instead” part to mean the change affects the existing soulbound legendaries – making them account bound instead of soulbound, and that it affects the existing pool of weapons, and not just the ones crafted post-patch.

There isn’t a mention of the wardrobe system at all in that blog post, so it’s reaching a little bit to think the author is referencing that update. But hey, if that reaches a conclusion and a closure for this thread, sure.

We’ll see what it means after the patch comes. I cleared the top bolded text, but believe what you want to believe. I tend to believe that Anet will do the right thing.

Well, I do believe aNet will do the right thing as well, but clearly the “right thing” is subjective.

LOL @ “the right thing”. No matter what ANet does, someone gonna be mad and thinking they did the WRONG THING. Nobody in this forum is ever happy… ever… ever… ever.

Well, there’s some ‘right things’ that are quite objective.

Like providing a solution to the Eternity exploit/loophole is a objective right thing, because that’s objectively (very) bad and will get people objectively annoyed if it gets carried to the live release.

Most people arguing it’s a good thing have not spent the time getting duplicates.

Most arguing it’s dumb have spent a lot of time acquiring these skins to have multiple. If they could have just made one and had multiple skins I bet 99% would have. Verrrrrry few did it for the stay change.

I made 3 incinerators before the stat changing… exclusively for the skins

Quite frankly your reaction to this is kinda pathetic , why would this make you happy? i could understand your dual wield concerns but to want to have legendaries completely removed from the wardrobe is…….erm whats the word I’m looking for here …..someone fills in the dots.

Lengendaries will be in the wardrobe as skins (nothing new here, except the multi use but if i remember well that is in the cdi post, since it was expected since last year, when they talk about pvp and pve gear fusion) and they will be acc. bound. This are two updates to legendaries and not a change, the one in wardrobe is just a skin, so if u put in a green item, is just a green item that have a legendary skin. The second is about the original item, that will be the only with the legendary function (changeable stats + best gear stats (in this moment ascended stats)) and it will be acc. bound instead of soulbound (u dont need to do the trick with white item to change from char to char). Now about people that think that they deserve some sorte of compensation, do they deserve… not realy, they made a choice, that was make 2 legendaries with the same skin and they had fun with it, (that’s why u play). But like every game, things change some things become easy, others dificult. There is advantages in being a old player and a new one, just live if your choices in game, u should know that everything can change in a game, things become more easy or more dificult to obtain, it just the evolution of the game. And if u read more the forum (especially developers posts) and listen the developers stream, u should know that this was comming since the last year (was large discussed in the evolution of pvp skin reward (guys that cant even dream with a legendary by only playing pvp (probably it will change in a close future (still remember ur interview Colin)) and u still complain about it)… Play the game and have fun playing it, and always know that everything can change (is also in the tearm that u accept when u instaled the game)… but almost all of these changes are proposed by the players that are expressing there opinions in cdi posts (u can found ascended acc.bound, dyes acc.bound… there).

There is absolutely no reason to make a dual legendary at all after this change, people who wants legendary available in wardrobe will NEVER gonna make dual, people who made dual or more legendary gonna feel like idiots, and please don’t tell me that we lose nothing, you are not in our shoes, you will never, ever be one of us. Many people are feeling this way, that’s why someone made this thread and people like us are in this thread. Sure some people with dual not agreed with us, but they at least know how us feel..

Funny how people called us selfish, we Made dual or more, we have the RIGHT to complain about new changes.
