Hello all!
Here’s the Feedback/Questions thread regarding The Megaserver System: Guilds and the Future: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-megaserver-system-guilds-and-the-future/
To quell speculation early, that is not what we are doing. The announcement will have more info, but we are absolutely not getting rid of worlds and putting everyone into an EotM type system.
So, I couldn’t help but notice that the blog post had only one very small blurb about WvW and all it basically said was that nothing is changing (currently).
I’d just like to know why you couldn’t tell us this yesterday instead of creating needless forum drama.
Honestly, this last blog post isn’t even warranted because it’s not included in the feature patch and vaguely mentions plans that may or may not come to fruition at some undisclosed point in the future.

Mind if we keep the RP thread where it is? The new blog posts haven’t addressed those concerns yet, so everything in that thread is still relevant.
Though we are moving to our new megaserver model in PvE, it’s extremely important to us that we maintain the level of identity and competition in WvW that we’ve established since the release of Guild Wars 2.
It will be difficult to maintain the level of server identity in WvW if we don’t have that identity in important meeting-places outside WvW. Aka, don’t implement the Megaserver in cities, so we can do all-calls, and talk about wvw… as a server.
I don’t really play WvWvW or care for it, but I see a big potential issue here if you combine all worlds together and make servers cross servers, there’s going to be a HUGE split issue with WvWvW with your members being in several different servers.
The best way to fix this would be to “Represent a Home World” for 2 weeks in the Guild UI. Which would swap your home server to the guild leaders home server, but you could only do this once every 2 weeks.
I doubt you’ll implement such a thing though as it would effectively remove server transfer fundings.

Seems to me that the solution to the RP problem is to make “RP” a language option.

Or just, like, let everyone choose from the shards available, once they’re in a zone. With a simple menu.
I don’t understand this blog… it isn’t part of the April 15th patch and by the wording it might not even be technically possible and may not ever be implemented… Why is this included in the feature patch blogs? Just trying to make it look like more content then there is?
I doubt you’ll implement such a thing though as it would effectively remove server transfer fundings.
I’m still rather upset because I don’t WvW a lot, and I just paid for a server transfer, which is now pretty clearly useless for anything but WvW

That’s what I gathered.
I’m happy with the wardrobe, sPvP, and trait changes, but I feel like everything else was a flop.
Disable this system in each hub city, server identity is more than just WvW.

It has always been that way, that was the whole reason they implemented guesting.

agreed
ArenaNet said that the LFG system will be polished so their response will be more in the lines of, if you need to find people for WvWvW use the LFG system to advertise instead.
I’d like to know how this might impact transferring servers in the future (for WvW purposes), and what happens to your guild vault and belongings after that transfer, once this all goes in place before the end of the year?
Now, we seem to lose everything, unless we have at least one account in that guild that still has the server with the vault as their home server, though…do they become the leader of the guild then? I’m not even sure how that would work. As such, I’ve never been able to leave the server I’m on, for WvW purposes, without losing my hard earned ‘personal’ guild vault and belongings. I’m stuck.
I’m wondering if there’s anything about this new system that will alleviate that problem?
Mind if we keep the RP thread where it is? The new blog posts haven’t addressed those concerns yet, so everything in that thread is still relevant.
Yep, we’ll leave it separate to continue that specific discussion.
Could someone please clarify what the purpose of this article was?
You basically said that you’re making changes in the future but failed to announce what these are aside from merging guilds chapters housed on separate servers.
I’m just confused as to why this blog post exists, especially considering the fact that it has nothing to do with the feature patch.
Uh-oh! Colin said, “before the end of the year…” Last year when he said that we were getting a precursor revamp that still isn’t here in the first quarter of 2014! This post is to be taken with a grain of salt then?
Guilds will have the ability to summon world bosses in mission tracks.
Doesn’t appear to be supported in smaller world bosses though….
(edited by Moderator)
I’m so happy this change is being made—the existence of Server Chapters has adversely affected my guild, which is cross-server, for a long time. I’m thrilled to hear these limitations will become a thing of the past. Thank you!
I have a couple of questions regarding how the creation of a unified Guild Chapter will be implemented.
Another issue i have is, that there is no mention about whats going to happen to guild missions. I just assume that after the megaservers are introduced the chance another guild already startet the mission you want to do go up quit a bit. So instead of doing missions you just wait until you can start them…
So thankful for this guild stuff! Personally I can’t wait for Megaserver to roll out across the board! Although I do admit, city-only server-specific instances would help to maintain the identity feeling!
Edit: But it sounds to me that the way this system prioritises means we shouldn’t really have a problem at all!
re: Guild merits and influence cross servers.. They had better not reset them all to zero to allow easy merging… <Hides>
Uh-oh! Colin said, “before the end of the year…” Last year when he said that we were getting a precursor revamp that still isn’t here in the first quarter of 2014! This post is to be taken with a grain of salt then?
He also said we’d be getting a variety of new skills and weapon sets before the end of 2013.
So yes.
“…the level of identity and competition in WvW that we’ve established since the release of Guild Wars 2.”
Read as: the level of zerg anonymity and importance of coverage in WvW that we’ve established since the release of Guild Wars 2. We still want you to spend $$$ for world transfers, so WvW will not be changed.
Well, at least you’re trying to fix the rest of the game.
Change the mega-bosses to spawn every four hours, nobody cares if they overlap with smaller events, people can only do these evens once a day anyway and the smaller ones spawn frequently enough to make more than one try during a play period possible. The same cannot always be said of the mega-bosses.

Do I get the grain of salt now, or closer to the end of the year? All kidding aside, ArenaNet, our consternation as consumers isn’t unfounded. The fact that there isn’t even an announcement about the precursor stuff is disheartening. I think the update on the 15th is going to be really great. That doesn’t change my feeling about being told that “the precursor stuff wasn’t ready by the end of the year so it’s getting pushed back” turning into possible vaporware?
First the info is not complected so there may be something more to come and to post like this makes you seem very foolish in saying so . Next there are GvG they are played made and they work very well its best to be hands off for these GvG. What your saying give nothing to any one its mostly pointless that you even made the post.
The GvG’s held in Obsidian Sanctum are a Band-Aid fix with the major issues being that they are easily trollable and that only one can take place at a time per server matchup. There is also no official scoring system, leaderboard, or any way to compare your guild’s standing to that of others. Furthermore, you can only challenge guilds to a GvG that belong to a server that is in your current WvW match-up. To sum things up, the Obsidian Sanctum GvG’s are very, very flawed.
People have been asking for official GvG functionality and Guild Halls since this game was in development. I don’t know where this stands on ANet’s priority list, but I know that it ranks extremely high on mine, my guildmates’, and many of the players that I have come in contact with in both sPvP and WvW.
I can only hope that I will see this feature released during the lifespan of this game, but to be honest, I don’t think it ever will be. If there is one thing I have learned from ANet, it’s that they love anything involving the Gem Store and will go to huge lengths to strengthen it.

The ability for guilds to activate world bosses will be on this patch or the december patch?

I have a couple of questions regarding how the creation of a unified Guild Chapter will be implemented.
- Will existing Influence, Merits, Consumables, and Unlocks across all Worlds be merged into the new unified chapter?
- How will Guild Banks from different Worlds be resolved and merged together? In order to avoid items/gold being destroyed, will guilds have to empty their guild banks in preparation for a merge?
I second these questions!

And let’s not forget condition damage, which there was a ‘fix’ for now sixteen months ago, at which point all threads about the subject were closed, and no developer has spoken a word on it since.
That’s some fix…

I was hoping you’d talk more about missions, as I imagine they will be heavily impacted by server mixing. Is it really too much to have these instanced? As an officer of a 500 man guild that gets 150 people online for their weekly commendations it’s kind of a big deal that the new system doesn’t disrupt our ability to do things together as a guild.
What is the likelihood that we get our own Plains of Ashford instance to do Puzzle? I felt like on command instancing with guild merits or a district system would satisfy all the disadvantages of megaservers… and yet we get neither. Is there anything in the pipeline about this?
Just concerned. Thank you for your time.

Who cares small guilds like mine will never be able to do it -,-

So essentially, Home World will be a WvW distinction only. Home World will have NO MEANING in PvE what-so-ever.
I see this creating an even greater divide between PvE and WvW. WvW players won’t be able to promote the WvW game mode to the PvE community in an effective way. New PvE players won’t even realize that they are associated with a specific WvW server, and they will not organize their social structures to match server assignments.
This is how that LA conversation could go:
All of this is to illustrate a point. Server identity needs to exist in a meaningful way in both PvE and WvW. If it does not, then WvW will become its own separate little corner of GW2.
I think it will be possible to maintain server identity in PvE in the new system, but it will require additional systems to do this intentionally. Are any such systems in the works?

Thank you ANET you made me laugh hard. Really HARD.
I’ve been waiting for a precursor hunt for a year now -,-, GvG since launch -,-, and now you post this. I wonder how much time we will wait for those changes buahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.

So you do not understand about GvG being left to the players it crates a feeling that the player own it and makes them far more meaningful then just having a group of 15 random ppl that you made a temp guild for them to run an pvp in more of an spvp setting. These players are use to playing with the others and know more about each other good points and bad points then just a random team or even a pvp only group. Its far from a “Band-Aid fix” it was giving the players what they wanted because before OS ppl GvG on every BL on the back of the windmill and ppl still do.
Ya GH would be nice and i see that coming in time but i do not get the aggrieve rush with it.
Ya every thing going to deal with the gem store because that how the game runs. That as kittenaying GW1 was nothing more then buying the next box for new content and every thing they added was though box sells. I hate to tell you but Anet all game makers are trying to make money at least in GW2 you can use in game gold to buy gem store items comply removing the need for real life money.
Yea, while it is a awesome thing for PvE, it creates a very strong segregation for WvW and PvE. It also does create a certain degree of confusion. So, if guilds are to recruit players from general PvE ground, guilds have to take extra care to recruit players or they might mess up their guilds.
“Though we are moving to our new megaserver model in PvE, it’s extremely important to us that we maintain the level of identity and competition in WvW that we’ve established since the release of Guild Wars 2. "
Server identity will be gone after the Mega Server merge and that is a good thing. If you wish to create competition you have to first start by balanced matchups and that requires a server merge for many WvW servers as well…
And GvG should play a part in this bright WvW future.

- GoM player: Hey everyone! GoM is going to run a Stomp the Map event in 30 minutes. It will be a lot of fun and it is a great way for you to get a taste of WvW. We will be starting in XYZ borderland, hope to see you there!
- New player 1: How do I know what server I’m on?
- GoM player: Well, you will have to go to the character select screen and look it up.
- XYZ player: I’m from server XYZ, we will be ready for you, lol
- Experience PvE player: I want to try WvW with my guild, but they are on a bunch of different servers, will that be a problem?
- GoM player: Yes… yes it will.

Great post. I was talking about this on TS last night and I have some pure speculation. I think that as we get closer to this becoming a thing they will have to lump servers into groups of servers. They would probably take a large, medium, and small server from each tier and lump them together as a team and for example that team would represent “Green Borderlands” for a given WvW week or two. Then it would all be switched again for the next cycle. It would be a better way to implement this mega server thing that is for sure. You are 100% correct about it diminishing server identity as it pertains to WvW I do however think that for PvE, the mega server thing is better for that. They may have weighed the pros and cons of each and felt like the benefit to PvE far outweighed the detriment to WvW. I can’t say as I blame them since PvE is the main thrust of this game.
I am sure as a dev you have to pick the best possible scenario instead of trying to be all things for all players and I am sure they hate to do it as much as we hate having it happen, but sometimes it’s an inevitable. I fear that this is one of those times.

They have to merge the servers for population issues and imbalanced matchups on most tiers. There is really no way around it…
Pros:
-Multi-server guild repping is no longer completely pointless (yay!)
-world transferring is possible without loosing your hard-earned personal bank guild attached to a specific server.
Cons:
-More annoying guild recruitment messages in wvw to spam the chat log since homeworlds no longer exist for afk-ing or recruitment. (When commanding, I really rely on mapchat to be my eyes and ears and want it clear)

It makes no sense for them to have the mega server for PvE and do nothing about WvW. In fact, thinking about it I believe they should make 3 mega servers and redesign WvW to represent those 3 mega servers as 3 WvW alliances.

And turn WvW into Karma Train zerg omniblob central? No thanks.
The servers are gone, basically. WvW cannot survive like that and soon nobody will have any server identity. Realistically, with this system, they shouldn’t let people pick servers at all and should just have us all “log on” and end up in some map or other.
Much ado about nothing.
The whole announcement, as far as WvW goes, is that there is no announcement. Nothing changes. Really, it would have been a lot easier if they had just put that out there to begin with. Talk about a tease. If nothing else, someone needs to teach a.net how to communicate properly.
It’s fine that they’ve finally formulated a cohesive vision for the format. It’s just too bad that that vision is status quo. In any case, since they’ve now at least made their stance on WvW clear beyond any reasonable doubt (took ’em long enough), we can now begin to make informed decisions.

Better 50 vs 50 than 50 vs 5. Nobody is preventing you from roaming even on reset nights.

I disagree, unless WvW format is adapted it is actually going to get worse because mechanisms that are used today (like popping in PvE and saying you need reinforcement in WvW or broadcasting a WvW event in a main town) are not going to work anymore.
You don’t know that though, you’re making an assumption. It might be that you’ll end up with mostly your server’s people on your map.

This might make some of the more annoying guild challenges doable. Right now, it’s roll the challenge and hope it’s one a small-medium guild can accomplish. Being able to ask the map for help with, say (to pick a COMPLETELY RANDOM challenge) Save Our Supplies will mean we have a chance to complete it.
