Feedback re. Dragonball & proposed chaanges
Of course, if everyone were not forced to play Dragonball, all that can be avoided.
Good thing that players are currently not forced to play Dragonball. Besides, the proposed changes would ruin the activity.
I believe a better approach would be to target the festival itself and how more should be added to it.

Bah humbug to being forced. It’s all voluntary. Nobody is making you chase that laurel but yourself. Do dragonball if you like it, don’t if you don’t.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Unlike the Wintersday event where you could avoid 1 item you didn’t like (do 5 out of 6), this one essentially forces you to play Dragonball because 2 of the 4 items are Dragonball related and you need to do 3.
So you are forced if you want that Laurel. And it has such a hard edge for a seasonal game.
But I agree they should add more to the festival so that folks can avoid Dragonball altogether.

Well, no one is forcing anyone to play at gunpoint so no one is actually forced, right?
But that doesn’t address my issue that the activity has such a hard edge to it. They made it so when they made it winner takes all. Please make it more casual friendly if we’re being forced to play it to get the Laurel.

The first line is correct. Take responsibility for your actions. You are forcing yourself to do something you don’t enjoy just for a prize.
As for Dragonball itself, I enjoy it for a bit of fun so I don’t see the need to change it for myself. There’s no harm in letting them know why you don’t like it though.

Let’s get rid of the “nobody is forcing” argument, it’s just silly. Yes, due to the way it’s set up, ANet is forcing people to play Dragon Ball in so far as they can force anyone to do anything. It’s settled, there’s no point trying to argue otherwise.
Here are the changes I would make:
- Set the winning score to 200 instead of 500. Make them short and sweet.
- Give everyone the second 1-slot abilities out of the gate, trying to play without it is nonsense.
- Give a massive Energy buff, so that you can dodge far more often. Too often if one or more players are on your tail death becomes inevitable.
- Remove the jump pad at the entrance, it can sometimes not let you out the first try and is just an unnecessary annoyance.
- If one team has less members on it than the other after the match begins, do not add new players to it. That team will lose regardless, and it’d be better to put incoming players on a team that stands a chance at winning.
- Rotate the map so that one base is north and the other is south, rather than east and west. Ideally the map would flip based on your team so that “home” is always south. This would make it much more readable.
- Show all friendly players location at all times, even through walls. You can see them on the minimap, but given the shape of the map this is often imprecise. Just show their exact location moving around behind the walls as if they had Commander tags or something.
- Make the meta achievement so that you get a prize for each win individually, rather than stacking to ten. It took me almost two weeks to end up on ten winning teams.

Agreed no need for any change.. its just a bit of fun.. no biggy
Oh, it needs changes.
The daily encourages feeding and there is no incentive to stay in a match you are losing, so often enough half or more of the enemy team will bail once they see they can’t win, if they are in it for the wins.
Its quite the wait for the end of a match if you have no one left to kill.
Maybe we as a community need to do our part to fix things. Just agree in advance that red team wins. If you get placed on blue team, get out there and just stand in place to the other team can rack up points. This way, you’re at least going to get a win every other round or so, and really only a few players need to stick around on the blue team to be the target dummies.

(Firstly, sorry to dredge this up. I was busy over the last few days to reply)

Actually, I meant that with quite a bit of sarcasm.
Reasoning: Given that nobody is forcing anyone to play GW2, we could essentially use that “nobody is forcing you to play” argument everywhere and everyone should just “take it or leave it”. So no one should be on the forums making suggestions, complaints or asking for any change because “nobody is forcing you to play”. Not sure if that’s a healthy direction.
This being the internet, I suppose some opposition to the change could be from those making gold out of Dragonball and liking how Anet is feeding them PVP-adverse players this year i.e. defending their own interests.
Ok, with that out of the way…
Wintersday had musical games, snowball fights, a donation drive and even a jumping puzzle; in addition to Tixx’s Workshop etc. This Lunar festival practically IS Dragonball. Why? Somehow, A-net got the impression the Chinese hold gladiatorial fights during Chinese New Year? LOL. I’m ethnically Chinese and I can tell you nothing like that occurs. Anyway, what I’m basically appealing for is just to provide more activities and allow us to avoid Dragonball completely next year.
I also want to point out (again) that in Dragonball, you get nothing even when your team scores 480 when the other team wins. This feels “hardcore” and I’m sure we need no reminding how that “hardcore” game (also under NCSoft) is doing. Don’t go down that route for a seasonal activity! BTW, I understand why loser gets nothing but you shouldn’t be feeding casuals/folks like me into it.
Maybe it is more troublesome to actually implement any of the changes either I or others in this thread have suggested. So perhaps a “simple” solution is really just to have more alternatives available. Help us (folks like me) avoid this activity and the pros can battle it out themselves. Although, I do wonder without being fed and having to fight against other similarly skilled opponents only to get nothing in a 500-480 match, if they will still enjoy it so much.
Pretty much disagree with everything the OP says here. Really hope that Anet ignores the suggested changes.
specific tasks give specific rewards in this game. You don“t want to do them, then you are out on the reward side. All sophism aside, yes, it still stands you are not forced to partake in Dragonball. You can always choose to forsake the rewards.
Let’s get rid of the “nobody is forcing” argument, it’s just silly.
Spoken like a true high school / college kid, or anybody who has never had to actually manage their time carefully. If you had to plan out your in-game activities for time constraints, you would quickly realize that if you don’t like doing something, you absolutely shouldn’t do it.
