Hey all,
I am starting to get a little frustrated, and I love the game, but I’m feeling completely left behind. Because of my work and school schedule as well as being married I do t have as much time to play as others. GW2 actually made me completely happy to play because I could do all the content without being required certain items or gear to meet a min requirement.
Anyways because of my schedule I haven’t been able to log on at all this weekend, but I finally got a chance this morning for about 2 hours before I got into work. I wanted to try some of the Fractals dungeon stuff today, but I got turned down from multiple groups because they were all working on Tier5+ (whatever that means). I was completely frustrated as this is the first time in this game that I realized I might not be able to do any of the newer content for a while because of my schedule.
Does anyone know how the fractal things work? Am I going to be able to get into a group running the first few levels?
I mean it is what it is and I understand that since I am a casual I will always be behind the hardcore players, but the reason I loved this game is because I never have felt like that yet. I love this game but if I can’t play the content because I can’t dedicate my life to a video game I will move on.
Is it going to continue with this design philosophy?

Fractals? Sure, today, tomorrow. Maybe a bit into next week. However, people are moving faster through so it “appears” more groups are higher than 1. So…depending on what fractal level you are at, and if it is 1 or 2, chances are low and groups will take longer to find.
Once found, and depending on the fractal, it may take even longer. Swamp anyone? Yeah.
Not a huge fan although they do look nice and they “ARE” fun. Just see more LFM fractal groups 6 and up. Over flow you may have more room though as one possibility.
Is it going to continue with this design philosophy?
Of course it is. That’s the new Anet’s philosophy. Either grind every day 10 hours per day or buy from cash shop. Game for casuals all the way!
I am in level 2!
I have been doing level 1 for 5 times, and I failed level 2 twice, apparently twice someone disconnected or left because their patience is as enduring as a kittykat.
And I think the time spent looking for a level 2 group (who doesnt lie that someone is a first timer level 1) was lame!!! HOORAH!
Should never get into an mmo thinking you are going to play all the content. Or enjoy the dissapointments lol.
Besides you’re not missing much for the 3 day event as alot of people are getting bugs that cant even complete.
It’s becoming a bad game for casual players.
When I first heard of Fractals I thought it’s going to be an awesome dungeon but I naturally imagined progress will reset when you go out.
ANet’s “idea” of keeping the tiers un-reset is already dividing the community.
Is it going to continue with this design philosophy?
I have never seen a game company make a reversal on an implemented system like this in time to avert disaster. This weekend they are hoping that people will forget about it and it will all blow over. Next week will be full-time crisis management. But, it is more likely that they will double down on the error and try to show us why they are right and the players are wrong. I have seen companies pull something out in the 6-month to 1-year time-frame but it’s always too late by then as the game has received a mortal blow. If Anet reversed their reversal of design philosophy with a mea culpa next week, I would probably feel better about them than ever. But, history (which they are free to learn from), says nothing will change in terms of direction.
I will be a have not, pushed to the back of the bus. Can’t even get groups to do the fractal level 1 anymore.
alright thanks for all the replies everyone, I wasn’t able to find a lvl 1 fractal group this morning in the 2 hours I searched.
So are the fractals-levels different dungeons with different paths?
I guess I’m just going to give up on this content as next time I will get to play will be in a few days, again thanks.
Anyone else having problems getting into groups for low level fractals?

Yep, of course people are – this is what happens when you have dozens of levels with different rewards (quality). It’s only going to get worse I’m afraid – GW2 went from one of the most casual friendly games to one with some of the worst gating I’ve ever seen.

I am completely frustrated with this. The community is going to be divided, and elitists are going to be everywhere. kitten makes me irritated just thinking about it.
Gonna play a white knight’s role this time. You don’t have to do those dungeons. You have plenty of other content to do. They might be a little deserted but you can always bring your friends/guildies! That’s the beauty of the game without a necessary grind and whole game being the endgame.
I was completely opposed to dungeon finder, but it is a must for fractals.
If you think finding group for level 1 is hard, you haven’t seen the upper levels.
Only mid tiers are easy to find group at the moment I guess.
Just more ingenious methods to preclude many from participating.
You would think they would think these things through, but alas…

lol. no, unless you want to get stomped in wvwvw, this is mandatory. sorry.
@haviz.1340:
That’s not white knight. That’s devil’s advocate.
Also if you want to have complete gear you need to do the fractal dungeons. That’s a major departure from GW1 and the stated design principles of GW2.
Player segregation is bad design. I can’t believe anet wouldn’t see this as a potential problem, so they must think it’s worth the cost.

Stomped? Ascended gear is slightly more powerful, won’t make you pew pew others in zvz (zerg vs zerg).

Gw2 is already a major departure. Almost nothing was carried over, maybe except name, lore, name of few proffesions and no monthly fees.

lol +20% better is hardly what I’d consider slightly more powerful, and this is just the beginning of the treadmill. some of us don’t run with zergs either.

Those are item stats. You still have your basic+trait stats. Besides, you can still overcome your enemy with skillful play!
lol. what we have here is a failure to communicate. read carefully. all other things being equal -traits, etc (everyone gets those), the gear gives significantly better stats. stats matter esp in small scale wvwvw. I should be able to get those stats by doing things other than dungeon grinds.

I like how that percent keeps changing… first it was 8% better then in another thread it was 40% better now according to you its 20% better lol.
You don’t have a clue to be perfectly honest…. no one does theres so much crap flying around right now facts are merely opinions.
To OP:
Start your own group. Theres plenty of people.
If you can’t start your own group…. well what do you expect.
Its the same thing with other dungeons in this game LF2M Arah. Applys for group Poster whispers have you run it before?
Uh no first time.
Sorry I don’t want to take someone new through.
But people want to believe the new content is the ultimate evil and these things weren’t already present in game. Blame the players.

It’s not my problem that Anet didn’t release the details. people have done the math. the items range in superiority. facts are facts, sorry to rain on your parade

How is that a failure in communication. People wanted to have gear adventage in wvw. And now they have.
If i can help others see the crime in all of this, then that’s success for me.

through forced pve gear grinds….lol.
through forced pve gear grinds….lol.
Yes, through forced pve gear grinds. They wanted raids, more character progression and everything else that comes with vertical progression.

Many people did not want that at all.

But you don’t know. For all you know half the population wanted that and the other half didn’t.
The half that didn’t just happen to be very vocal about it. Anet didn’t base this change on forum posting I garantee you that.

No, but I’m sure their main focus was determining why players were leaving, so of course they perceived an overestimated demand for vertical progression.
I also agree that this silly mishap is causing a continual divide between the community.
We at Operation: Union are trying to build back a helpful community with the ideals of helplessness kindness and goodwill.
This in truth makes me slightly angry. Kind folks have told me the this new Fractuals has caused spouts of griefing, abuse, discrimination and RACISM! (I myself have very strong feelings towards the last one due to personal experience. Don’t worry I definitely stood up for myself.)
All sorts of silly nonsense. Have a look at my Sig. Makes you have a little faith in the community. Many of the more experienced go out of their way to lend a hand.
The barrier at the moment is the lack of guesting. When this comes we’ll get together more often. (We currently locked with helping cross server dungeons due to restrictions)
On a side note: Thanks for your service to your country and to all servicemen and women. I have much respect to people like you.

Mate, I’m not going to bash on you for white knighting, but I bought this game to play for fun, in my downtime to relax. I don’t HAVE to do the content no, But I WANT to do the content, if I’m already being told I can’t do something because of some artificial boundaries that the company put up (fractal levels) in something I do for FUN there is a problem. I can say you don’t have to pvp or PVE, but that shouldn’t even be brought up, this game was advertised as play how you want. Not oh sorry now you can’t do something because you don’t have X. This goes against the foundation of this whole game.

Pretty much everything they implemented this weekend goes against the foundation of this whole game. But folks spoken and anet listened. Anyway, if you are on EU serv, I’m happy to run level 1 fractals, because for some strange design reason I have to repeat them for my other characters ;(
nice personal attack, namu. you will soon learn.

thats a bit tricky with the majority of the suckers chasing that carrot on a stick in the new dungeon to get anyting done far as group events goes let alone bigger events. Saturday morning i logged in and i was at the cursedshore. Only one too lol.
I dont do dungeons in this game and choosed not to do the 3day event after phase1 didnt want to work. w/e game is going downhill fast.
while I like the fractal dungeon being a set of mini dungeons that are all fairly unique… I have to say looking for people of similar level is absolutely frustrating. It should be like explore mode, where the fractal level can be set to the highest level a player as achieved rather than the lowest…. That way even if you set it to lvl 4 or 10, everyone who’s not at those levels still can participate and “lvl up” (maybe not jump from say lvl 4 to 10, but at least if they participated in a 10, they’d move from 4 to 5).

They did? I’m a WvW guild leader and I want all ascended gear automatically unequipped and locked the instant someone steps onto one of the maps.
it’s been 2 days settle down. google/map chat/gchat what you don’t know and then go and do the new content. if you can’t find a group for fractals with the constant spam then you’re doing it wrong.
help yourself a little.
There is no casual in gw2 only grind grind grind on the treadmill.
To me I saw right off the bat how the Fractals will be annoying for the playerbase because of the levels. It should have never been that they are set to the lowest of the group, but the highest of the group. This whole levels thing is just frustrating for people who just want to go in and have fun. That is what a game should be after all, not a tool that others can make others feel bad because they aren’t on the same “level” as them
Hey all,
I am starting to get a little frustrated, and I love the game, but I’m feeling completely left behind.
Welcome to gear grinds, gated content and raids. Like drug dealers, they clearly don’t care if they lose casual users because they believe the money is in the hardcore addicts. You’re a second-class citizen of Tyria, my friend, and they’re only going to get worse in their treatment of you.

Thing is, ANET wants to make money via the gem store. Which means they need people with disposable incomes. Who are most likely employed. Meaning they don’t have the time to be hardcore users.

Of course they could have just, I don’t know, put all their resources on fixing the numerous bugs, exploits, and deficiencies in the game, balanced some of the more obscene class imbalances, added more build/skill customisation, etc. Leaving aside the whole deception/betrayal side of the argument, adding a gear treadmill should have been way down the list of priorities in the first place.
A LFG tool with level requirements taken into consideration would probably solve this issue, but that’s not happening any time soon or ever.

I agree. The really horrible reality emerging is that ANet is not merely malignant, but stupid. A truly lethal combination.
