It seems that most of the leggings are some sort of skirt. Am I the only wanting something to be more like normal pants?

It’s just that, some of the armor looks like it’d be much cool accompanied with pants of some sort rather than a skirt. Like, for example, the Trickster’s Vest. It looks really cool but it just seems a little out of place with a lot of the leggings… including the Trickster’s Leggings.

Also, I’ve made a female pyromancer that’s still on the masculine side, and it just seems awkward putting a skirt on her.

I think it would be nice to see some light armor leggings that aren’t skirts in the future.

I’d like greater armor variety in general. More skirts for medium (not trenchcoat or butt cape. Think studded leather gw1 armor), more non-trenchcoat tops for medium, more pants for light.

Of course I say I’d like more variety but it’ll only ever come in the gem store. Shame.

I’d like to see leggings without skirts, too. But I’d also like “coats”/“chest pieces” that aren’t bimbo tops that show lots of skin and are not just slightly girlized versions of what they guys’ is. Something that’s truly pretty. If a warrior can run around with her breasts hanging out (good deity, even Scottish warriors are smart enough to put multiple layers of cloth over their delicates), they can also run around wearing more frilly clothes. Each is equally impractical! And I won’t even start on the hideous options for head armor – I hide it, unless I have on my aviator glasses.

the problem with mmo’s, is that when they say light armor (more often than not in my experience) they mean robes. forgetting that many mages in other rpg games could access actual light armor, like chainmail, glass, scale, etc. or d&d’s warlock(necro) could use leather armor and some scale. i hate that light armor means cloth. at the very least, make light armor look like armor.
the only time i’ve found light armor that looks like anything protective is drybones pauldrons/gloves, soul of koda, and path of koda.

AC Dungeon pants — those are reminiscent of a renaissance page. My mesmer wears them for adventuring. She also sports the Trickster skirt but with the AC boots so her legs don’t flash.

There need to be more like that, but if you want pants rather than a skirt, there is that one option.

I agree with both of you—more variety is good. At least when it comes to length. I ended up getting the Krytan armor for my ranger because it looked like a vest and didn’t act as a tailcoat, but mostly because there wasn’t much for options then.

Part of the reason I haven’t wanted to make a medium armor class is because there’s almost no top that looks good except the underboob one lol. While that one is nice, I would prefer if I wasn’t wearing the exact same thing as everybody else. Medium tops = hideous.

Female characters in most games get the short end of the skimpy stick – guaranteed if a female is playable in any game she either has skirts or 99% of her armor is disturbingly skimpy or both. As a female player, yeah it’s very annoying- why do male characters mostly get full body armor while the female “the most important parts of her body” are covered – chest & butt- the rest though just show because you know, it’s so much better that way sarcasm

GW1 had a pretty reasonable balance.
For example you could have a monk with one of the the super skimpy tattoo sets or you could have one that is very conservative. There were also ones in between. More or less the case for all the other classes too. Except Dervish and Paragon. Those were all “meh”.

That’s a foolish statement.
First, you assume that there isn’t a significant female player base for Guild Wars 2. In fact, there are a large number of female players. Do they outnumber male players? No. But they are a significant customer group. In this day and age, it’s inaccurate to assume that female character=male player.
Second, you act like all males share your opinion about skirts. Some males prefer skirts, some males prefer pants. Whether the guys in question want a realistic character, or a sex doll, their personal images of said character will vary widely.

Honestly, who would NOT want more variety? :/

“Sexy” clothing isn’t all about showing skin. An armor set can cover a woman’s entire body, but if it’s skin tight and shows the shape of her bum and breasts—as if she were naked—then it’s still “sexy”. Almost all the GW1 sets either showed a ton of skin, or were skin-tight.

Agreed, for the most part. Just wanted to add: one can’t assume all male characters are male players, either. The only safe assumption is there’s likely a human being driving the character. Unless it’s a bot, of course. Though, I’m pretty sure bots don’t care what they wear.

I’d also add, I play male characters and female asura because it means I don’t have to contend with either a lack or overabundance of armour on the females (human, norn, sylvari). I do have to deal with buttcapes, however, which are a treacherous beast. I’m now saving up my Ascalonian tears for the AC pants, which are quite yummy. They would probably work quite nicely on a lady human/sylvari/norn, too.

That said, I always liked the conjurer pants on the ladies. On the other hand, I wish there was a masquerade skirt that went around all the way. And had a different, extra top part that was a bit more complete (it wouldn’t be masquerade then, but just a full ballgown type thing, and I’d have no issue with the suspenders remaining). Plus more pants.

What it comes down to: Everyone Needs Trousers! Bring the Trousers! Pants for Plants (and non-plants)! Light Armour Users Want Nice Trousers! Without Bits Missing!

And some underwired bras might be necessary for some characters. Or sports bras. Frankly, I’m surprised the Tyrian chiropractors and osteopaths don’t get more business.

How many of the WoW armors were max stat though ?
Or at least statted high enough that people will spend significant time in them. Because most players will pick stats over looks. So if the stats suck, I wouldn’t count it.

From memory all the GW1 armor skins counted because they were available at max stats. Prophesies had some annoyances where some skins were tied to specific stats, but that went away. GW2 launched with transmutation stones.

So how many WoW armor skins had stats high enough to matter ?

I think it would be a wonderful idea to add more choices and options to the game for everyone, so long as it doesn’t take away from other existing to future choices and options.

Personally, what I think ANET should do when they make an armor skin is make one skin for one race/gender combination. Then, when they alter it for all the other race/gender combinations, the only alterations are the ones that are necessary due to anatomical differences.

Then apply that same standard to existing armor skins. When the female version has a skirt, then so does the male version. Yes, that will mean crossdressers. But if ANET isn’t comfortable seeing the same armor skin on a male human, female human, charr and asura, then they should never have put it into game in the first place.

Because nexxe.7081 was talking about vanilla WoW. I’ll settle for the count the day before they added transmutation.

The current armor skin count in WoW would also be useful to know.

I agree with this thread. While I don’t mind the skirts and longcoats being around, its annoying when nearly all of our potions are along those two. I want pants and shirts/vests!

The only female pants with no skirt are the Profane pants…which don’t match well with much else besides the set itself, and barely count as pants. Beyond that, it’s either the Embroidered Pants (which have a rear skirt of sorts) or the Ascalonian Light Pants (which also have a mini skirt around the top of them on the female version…which doesn’t make sense.)

The only non-longcoat options for medium armor can be counted on one hand as well:

- Studded Coat/Vest
-Marksman’s Coat
-Duelist/Sneakthief Coat (unless you’re male or asura, in which case it’s a half-longcoat)
- Krytan Jerkin (same as the Sneakthief Coat)

Even heavy armor options suffer from this. Only two no-skirt options.

- Heavy Plate Leggings (Lionguard leggings)
- Aetherblade Heavy Leggings

Even heavy armor options suffer from this. Only two no-skirt options.

- Heavy Plate Leggings (Lionguard leggings)

also temple armor, Priory, Plated, t3 human cultural, Primeval (gemshop), and ascended.

For light armor however the choice for pants really is practically non-existent.

There are fitted ones and there are skin tight ones. Those two should not be confused with each other. No interest in seeing baggy jeans(or skinny ones …) in any games.

Elementalist and Mesmer were skewed more towards the revealing side and Monk was on the opposite end. Necromancer and Ritualists … not sure where those fall. It should also be noted that most of the male necromancer sets are in the skin tight category as well.

This has gone on so long with all 3 armor tiers that I have no faith whatsoever that they’ll ever add skirtless armor. Something’s seriously wrong with their designers if they haven’t noticed this by now. Even more wrong if they have and just ignore it and keep pumping out the same exact thing over and over. The weirdest thing about it is how much easier it’d be to design such armor since they wouldn’t have to worry about clipping and the armor would be smaller and would have less pieces.

People might hate WoW all they want, but their initial game (non-expansions) had literally hundreds of unique armor items. This isn’t the same with GW2 though. I think even GW1 has more unique armor.

Across ALL of Guild Wars 1, each profession had 30-35 or so unique armors. The problem is, is that 25 of those 30 armors all look exactly the same for each profession. Every Ranger armor had some sort of stupid shoulder piece only on the right shoulder. All Assassin armor had varying amounts of skin cover, as well as varying amounts of pointy stuff coming off of everywhere. If Monks weren’t wearing the exact same cloth, they were wearing a variation of tattoos instead. All Dervish Armor had a Hood and skirts. All Paragon armor had skirts as well.

That’s about 300 total armor sets across 10 professions, 600 if you split genders (and that’s assuming they all had at least 30, and they don’t, only the 6 core professions had them, so that 600 number is very generous). In Guild Wars 2, there is 50 armor sets per weight, and across genders and having to use different models for different races, you could say there is at least 600 different armor sets in Guild Wars 2. (50 per weight x 3 = 150 × 2 genders = 300, + 150 more for Char + 150 more for asura, both of which use the same armor model for both genders. (and I’m also pretty sure that Norn and Sylvari use the same model as humans)

600 different armors, plus another 40 or so additional head pieces, is kind of a lot of stuff that they had to make. Not only that, but you can dye 99% of it to any color you want. You don’t have that much coverage in GW1, and definitely not in WoW. Sure, a lot of it looks the same, but it is nowhere near as bad as GW1 was, which itself wasn’t as bad as other earlier online games were.
