I really hate playing my mesmer and my guard with GS. Why? They are both female and look like they werent even able to carry that thing…
Male humans on the other hand, carry it proudly like a flag.

Is there anybody else who hates this?

Specially wielding a legendary GS, this is very disappointing in my eyes.

With the Mesmer, I really don’t see any issue, as many of the GS animations make it clear that it is wielded with magic, and therefore the character’s physical strength is irrelevant beyond being able to carry it on her back.

I understand your point more with Guardian, as their attacks are more physical. However, I would expect that ANet researched how a woman would have to maneuver with a weapon that was just barely within her ability to lift when they were designing the character animations. There’s only so much they can do with the animations to make it more plausible, because it IS improbable that a woman could wield some of these swords. Then again, wielding some of these gigantic swords is improbable for anyone.

Unfortunately, it boils down to voluntary suspension of disbelief (i.e. ignoring the stuff that doesn’t make sense). There’s only so much you can do to make some of these things realistic.

Half of the greatswords are so large even a Norn or Charr would have trouble with them — some of them look like they weigh over 200 pounds.

Females can’t use GearScore? Scary!

We’ll stop to sleep when the game is the best possible game we think it can be.
We’ve been awake since March 2007! Please help!

My female human Mesmer looks awesome with Khrysaor.
It is very elegant looking and goes perfectly with her Whispers armour

Some of the other swords really look like something you would use on a boat though.
Meh- you have to cater to all tastes, I think this game does it quite well actually.

I mean how she carries it while walking in combat. It is unesthetic in my eyes. I have Twilight and honestly would like to carry it pointing up, not carving the floor.

The pic in my signature shows what I mean. from that angle its ok, but wathing her waling from behind, is a pain to my eyes.

Massive greatswords are pretty unrealistic to begin with. I blame anime/manga. I pretty much cover over the massive skins with one of the more realistic ones, though that is not going to work for someone who got a Legendary one. >.>

I strongly prefer the female-human carrying animation for the greatsword as it currently stands. I hope it doesn’t change.

It’s pretty accurate: female = lower center of gravity.

Also, animators like to pick bodypart centric acting (if this makes sense, I studied animation for a while) and again with the female humans it’s often the hips, much in the same way that Asuras are head-centric animation.

Guys have higher center of gravity and often shoulder-centric animation.

Swords are actually made to be as light as they can be. All those really big swords you see from the Middle Ages, the giant two handed ones? They’re like 10-12 pounds.

Nothing answers the question of genuine weight better than sample evidence of actual historical specimens. Sword collector and author Dr. Lee Jones possesses a very fine specimen of a 16th century German two-handed great sword, that this author had the privilege of exercising outdoors with, had length in excess of five feet and a weight of 7.9 pounds (3490g), but handled easily with superb balance.

Curator of arms for the Hungarian Military History Museum in Budapest, László Töl, describes a very fine specimen of another 16th century German two-handed great sword of 53.4 inches length, which this author also had the privilege of examining, as weighing only a little over 8 pounds. Again, the piece’s size and weight betrayed a functional and well-balanced weapon. László Töl adds: “The full length of the sword is 1808 mm, the full length of the blade is 1355 mm, the edge of the blade is 936 mm long, the length of the hilt is 306 mm, and the diameter of the cross-guard is 502 mm. The width of the blade is 46 mm, and its thickness is 7.5 mm. The ‘neck’ of the blade is 8.6 mm thick and 32 mm wide. The centre of gravity is 616 mm from the pommel. The sword weighs 3650g. The blade’s cross-section is rhomboid in shape.”

Unfortunately, it boils down to voluntary suspension of disbelief (i.e. ignoring the stuff that doesn’t make sense). There’s only so much you can do to make some of these things realistic.

your comments make me scratch my head. i’m not sure if you’re just completely clueless or not. a fit woman is very very strong. unfortunately there aren’t many because society has decided that it is unbecoming. not that it is even relevant as these swords are completely fantastic anyway.

i don’t mind the animation, and in fact would like the number 3 leap skill on my charr because their leap skill is strange looking. i like the spin.

A fit woman may be strong but if you think the twigs that pass for human females in this game could wield one I would be skeptical. Then again they must have really strong backs to carry those 100lb weights on their chest.

I had to change my Norn gender from male to female because I could not bear the male animation (Guardian).
Also, I really like the female human animation which is the same as Sylvari’s.

I much prefer the female animation for carrying the sword around. I think the male animation is all like “Durr, look at mah shiny sword. I’mma wave mah sword around so everyone can see it. Dodge roll? Nah, bra, then people can’t see mah sword!”

Females are like “I need to carry my sword low and behind so I can lean into the sprint and achieve greater velocity. In this manner, I can more quickly arrive at my target and remove its head part from its shoulder parts”.

What I don’t like, however, is the animation for the third auto-attack swing for females. At least for guardians, it’s an awkward uppercut type move. I would much rather see an overhead chop type move. That being said, the male animation is even more awkward. Thrusting with a greatsword? No thank you.

I’d rather regret something I’d done than regret doing nothing.
