Female/male toons
I’m a male, I play males. Mostly because I like my characters having beards.

I don’t play ‘toons’. shudder
But I do have one male character among my girls. It is fun trying to do things like a man would do them. Will probably get another too later.
I’m a male who chooses female characters in just about any game where the option is available. For me it has to deal with real life implications. The fact that women have been oppressed (and still are in some cases) just disgusts me. So this subconscious feeling of hate towards our history always drives me to pick female characters to watch them succeed in whatever story/game.
It’s a little joy, but I can’t take it too seriously of course. It’s just fiction. Nevertheless, point stands.
Why does it matter? I doubt any of us are Asura, Charr, Norn, or Sylvari. If race doesn’t matter, why should sex. Anyone that says they play the same sex as themselves better only be playing humans.
Logic.

Well I wanted one of each class, rolled one male of each race and then three females for the last three classes cause I didn’t want duplicate males as I thought that would be boring. Even with the customization, it still would have been two male norns or two male sylvari, etc. Needed some feminine charm mixed in.
My characters think I’m crazy.
i was using a male human…but used the total makeover kit for test and made an alluring female human.
I have both male and female characters. Why? ‘Why not’ is really what I wonder about whenever this topic comes up. My characters aren’t idealized versions of myself, I create characters with their own personalities (and genders.). That’s really all there is to it.
Variation. Some characters I envision simply work out better as female. Ive got 8 characters, 4 male, 4 female. Besides, I feel that female armors etc do generally seem to have gotten more work and are not so stiff as alot of male characters. Just take wow for example, in general the male characters looked like crap. I prefer characters that do not look like crap.

I always wondered about guys that play at chicks, then somebody said it’s because of the views, lol.
I guess that makes sense.
I’m female who only plays as female characters. I do that for every game I play. Not sure why specifically I stick only to females but it makes more sense for me to play as one. I like how females typically look in most games as well as how their armor looks.
I play male characters. And they always look as close to me as humanly possible.
Why? I suppose I have no imagination. I never play anything but male humans. lol. I just can’t see myself being anything other than a male human. :-P

lolwut? I waited your entire post for the punchline… but it never came. >_>
I’m a guy that always makes female characters. I don’t do it so much for the “view” (as someone else posted), but more for the animations. Using skills like Banish (Guardian hammer skill that launches the enemy) with a female character makes me chuckle every single time. It’s also for this reason that the majority of my characters are Asura (though I have at least one of every race). Animations > appearance and/or role playing

I’m a female who only plays female characters. My two 80’s are both female sylvari. I love how the sylvari look and all my alts are sylvari too. I tried to make a male, but deleted him for another female. I just like females better, perhaps because I’m female. I don’t really have an explanation. In other MMO’s I had a male character, but they never made it to level cap.

I’m a girl who enjoys playing on male characters. I do play girls too, but playing a guy gives me something completely different to myself to hide behind. I play games for escapism and all that jazz
I am male, and I play both. I think people have forgotten the RPG part of the MMORPG name. These characters aren’t supposed to be you.
I play females as a male, because in every game their animations/model tend to be better and/or the males are borderline females.
I have equal amounts of both. Some people seem to think that in games they’re meant to represent or become their character. I don’t. I just make what I think is a good character.
Also don’t say “toon”.
really bad engineer
I’m at half and half right now. I choose different genders because… I don’t know. I just enjoy making different-looking characters. If I have a human female engineer, I wouldn’t feel like making a human female ranger, since the armors will be the same (on the issue of in-game races, I think human armors are the best-thought through, so my current roster is 3/4 human).
So, it’s based on aesthetics and variety for me. I personally like how female charr look more than the male, and male sylvari to female, etc.
Edit: also, I’m a girl, teehee
Male and have both male and female.
I am male, and out of my five characters, one is female (asura).
She is an ele. I thought I would get a kick out of this small, unassuming, endearingly cute lil thing wreaking so much havoc and destruction.
And I was right!

NEVER FORGET
My main PvE character is a guy, as well as my main PvP. But I have two alts that are female, mostly because the male models for some races are awful looking- asura, charr, human. Never going to make a male from those races, in fact probably never going to make a charr at all.
GW2 (and MMOs in general) is full of G.I.R.L.s (Guy In Real Life).
5 male characters here, one of each race :P
I’m male, and I have 1 female out of the 7(?) character slots I have….
Anyway, while running around, I saw my female’s mirror image of the opposite gender…
I’m the female in the background
I’m usually typing on my phone
Do we REALLY need yet another one of these threads? But whatever, I’ll bite.
I play both genders, female mostly, for aesthetic reasons. I don’t play charr as anything but male and I don’t play sylvari as anything but female.
I have 11 characters and they are split pretty evenly between male and female. I didn’t plan it that way it just happened as I was visualizing the character in terms of race and profession. I’ve thought about it before as it is a common topic in MMO’s, but I really don’t attach any significance to it. I enjoy the variety I guess. It might be different if I were an RPer. I think it would be difficult for me to role play against my gender.
100% ladies. Sorry guys but you just don’t have enough pretty clothes.
50% female, 50% male … no particular reason …
I’m a male who mostly plays male but sometimes i like to play female to expierence being someone i cannot be in real life.
However if i play female i act like my normal self i commonly see female characters acting all sexy and what not and im like dude alert dude alert. Or if they are like owned you bro i whooped you dog l2p im like seriously…why are you playing female.
Same, I dont act female when I play my female characters.

Sure i do . As for the reason Its because i rolled a 1 or a 3 instead of a 2 or a 4 but i also build profiles for my characters and have fun with that .
I’m a guy and I play a male asura.
I love the T3 cultural armor for them
I’m male (Surprise! My username is my old GW 1 Ele’s name for legacy). I Use both Female and Males, usually all human save one Asuran male thief. I do it for role-play and I can RP both genders effectively. My distribution among 6 character slots is 4 female, 2 male/5 Humans, 1 Asura. I can’t stand Sylvari since they changed from the original concept to the more plant like appearance and oh God, the voice acting!
Charr, I just can’t see myself as a furry character. Norn I never could stand Norn in gw 1 and i can’t make a pretty female Norn or bad kitten male one without looking too Mr. Universe/ Arnold-like in terms of muscles.
I play male and female characters, depending on how I want to play them. I’m not an RPer, in the sense that most people think of RP, but I am an immersion player. I like to immerse myself in the game and the world. In my head, my characters have depth, even though I don’t talk in character in game. But I do tend to play the game as if the world was real. Like I’d thank an NPC as soon as I’d thank a player.
Certain characters just feel more right to me being a certain gender. I big burly hammer melee guy, I’m likely to make a guy. But if I were going for a nimble, lithe, ranger character, that could be male or female. Some characters seem to suggest one gender or the other to me, and so that’s what I play.
But then, I write a lot of fiction and I’m used to being inside character’s heads. And since I have both male and female characters in my fiction, it’s not a huge step to see why I’d have characters of both genders.
I play characters which are both male and female. I like how each gender has their own looking armors and stuff.
Since I don’t view the characters as ‘me’, but more as products of my imagination, it’s fine. I don’t need to only play characters of my own gender because I’m uncomfortable in my sexuality or for whatever lame reason.
I normally play male characters, but I do have a female human Thief, after the Thief preview with the kitten female I couldn’t help it.
