Hi all, i did not play gw2 in about 8 months….rl stuff work and what not, anyway i would like to know few things.

1. How is the story progression now, did they change anything? is it still Arah 5 man dungeon for last part?
2. Any changes on professions? I kinda remember being fragile as glass with any profession i played no matter the gear stats.
3. How is the game population?

1. Personal story arcs in powers of 10 now. so every 10 levels, you’re doing the story, so no more missions every 1-3 levels any more. Also, the skill tab is limited at the beginning levels IF you roll an alt created before the update that made the change.

2. Professions are same o’ same o’ for the most part but there have been many various tweaks for all classes since 8 months ago nonetheless. The new expansion pack(Heart of Thorns) will be introducing a new heavy armor class.

3. There a was server merge of sorts, called the mega server now. Servers only purpose these days now is WvW. Aside from that, you’ll meet everyone.

No, but they were never fragile. That is to say most people didn’t think of most professions that way even at launch.

The fragility comes from lack of movement and lack of dodging. This game is all about active combat.

There are no true tanks in this game, but that doesn’t make professions fragile. To give you an example, in PvE, people often were the least defensive gear now, because they found that dodging and other skills to mitigate damage make them survivable enough where they don’t need survivability stats.

In fact there are far more complaints about the game being too easy than too hard.

I am not saying that the game is too hard, but come on dodging? 2 dodges on that cooldown? even when i was playing every now and then people would say yes you need to learn to dodge…always made me laugh

Meet me in game and I’ll show you how I take almost no damage without dodging, saving the dodges for when I need it.

It’s not just about dodges, it’s about movement too. It’s about smart use of utility skills. I can fight two or three things and barely take any hits at all, if I move right, without ever using a dodge.

This isn’t a game where things automatically land attacks. I move all the time. I use various utilities to help. A lot depends on the profession, as well.

Hit me up in game and I’ll prove it.

I wouldn’t say the classes are fragile at all. And I main an Elementalist, one of the squishiest classes. I’ve got 100% map completion on her and I did that mostly solo. I only had to get help on probably no more than 5% of the skill challenges and 90% of those were in Orr.

To be fair, dodging isn’t the only defensive mechanic built into the game or the professions. If you want to run full glass then to HAVE to learn all of the other ways to mitigate damage from blocks, blinks, evades, invulns, applying weakness and protection at the right times, boosting your vigor when you can and also knowing when to dodge. ALL of those things combined with certain self heals and stealth are all the tools needed to survive across the professions as full glass. Obviously you can spec for something more tanky and heal based and give yourself a bit of a safety net at the expense of damage, but then you need to learn how much long certain fights might take and how that can affect your cool-downs over all.

I do know what you are talking about, but i still do not like being fragile when i dont play out perfect move/dodge combo and getting my face smashed into the ground. Guess that answers my questions, thanks for info

I don’t play perfectly. I do not have Vayne’s super movement skills. I am a proverbial tree. Unless I’m dodging. And I only tend to dodge the red circle attacks.

Still don’t think I’m fragile.

What profession are you playing?

Elementalist mostly. Though I’m currently leveling up a ranger and a guardian. And a mesmer that I’m leveling up with friends (if they ever get free to log in again XD).

This is my first MMO and I’m a casual by choice. I’ve got the time to spend studying rotations and practicing, but no desire to be hard core.

I will say that I will move around 100% of the time if I discover that standing still will lead to my death 100% of the time (such as in various fractals and LS2 episodes).

Personal story was followed by living story season 1 and 2, anet said they will try to make it so people can replay season 1 just as they can do with season 2 currently.
No changes if you like to not use active defence so no tanking as in games like wow, thats the feeling i get you asking with nr2 mate
Game population is fine due to megaservers some say its to many people since they want a challenge doing events with a small party.

I been playing on my zerk thief again and you probably can’t go much more “fragile” than one of them. But because of the skills I use in combat, particularly Sword pistol, you can get close to face tanking most enemies through smart use of pistol 4 which stuns enemies, pistol 5 that you can blast for a blind, sword 3 for a stun. Smart use of skills like those plus the utilities and you can receive as much damage as a warrior and not go down. A full zerk warrior still has a massive HP pool so can shrug off a lot of damage while heal signet keeps you in the fight.

I also have a hybrid sinister/rabid necro which OP might rate as fragile, but of course skills like death shroud, plague and lich form helps on the survivability front but it’s all about smart use of immobilises, cripples, blinds, chills to keep the enemy out of reach while my stacks of bleeds, torments, vulnerabilities and poison do their job.

When I play those chars, they’re in control of the fight whether it be bursting down the mob or slowing them down and killing them through attrition.
