Fight Fire With Fire..Say No to Warriors
I can understand your frustration. I find something wrong when dungeons in a game like guild wars, are being run with “preferred” classes and builds. This, in a game that, says you don’t HAVE to play a certain way.
Not the warrior’s fault though. It’s a flavor of the month. Just wait, whatever class you are playing will be preferred at some point in time.
I don’t experience ANY frustration. I have more dungeon runs than I can use. First of all, my main dungeon character is a mesmer. So yeah, I have nothing but dungeon invites all day every day.
But also, I only run dungeons with my guild and I have run dungeons on my ranger, my necro and my engineer. In fact, I ran most of them early on with the engineer. We still run dungeons all the time with engies, rangers, thieves, eles. We don’t care. We run dungeons for fun, not efficiency. Not to farm. Fun.
But there’s been so much toil on these forums lately but zerker warriors being the only viable profession to play, and I think that, since they can get a zillion groups anyway, why not give options for the other professions.
I might even make an ad one day that says “no warriors, guardians or mesmers”.
Hmmm…the possibilities.
What anet is doing is an insult to PvE players
We get constant nerfs to PvE due to PvP played by few players….
While PvE is awfully broken.
GW2 guardian and warriors 2
Dont even try to pretend any class can do everything in PvE…while its true having 5X sustained DPS makes the difference in ANY pve situation (from ARAH to lvl 40 fotms etc etc).
But its pve who cares of balance? not Anet for sure (they will split skills? will i get war dps with mesmer or ele? if not that who cares).
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
The thing I find amusing about the whole situation is that the whole point of not having the ‘trinity’ was so you didn’t have ‘needed’ classes. But boy…everyone sure wants Zerk Warriors, don’t they?(Note: I have 5 80s so far, one of which IS a Zerk Warrior). It’s not hard to see why either. They bring far too much to the table and classes like Eles, Engis, and Necros can’t even begin to compare. Honestly I think one Zerk Warrior can out-dps AND out-support 2 engis.
Something needs to be done. I know Warriors are pretty kitten in PvP, but in PvE they are the very top. Either people need to get brought up to their level or they need a heavy boot.
Excuse me for assuming. The way your post was formatted, seemed to me that you might be one of the “less desireables”. I play an ele..so I know about that, however, like you…I am in a guild and have no trouble getting dungeon runs. My original statement stands, though. Anet will find a way to make zerker less desireable…believe me.
I completely agree with you rhysati. I think the way they balance classes is insane. I feel forced to play my elementalist as heavy water, earth, and arcane for support. No matter the weapon set. There is no other way to be desireable for dungeons if I were to PUG (and that’s hardly even needed). I still don’t match up to other classes. Guardians can throw full heals with the elite (my heals are minor Oh crap, let me give you a little sliver of health and hope in some miracle it helps you recover). My damage is crap. The MOST I can do in any dungeon situation is spam my attunements to offer buffs. I understand being a support. I ENJOY being a support, but I can HARDLY be called a support when most of what I do is so miniscule compared to what bosses/mobs hit for.

Good warriors are top. Bad berzerker warriors suck badly. The percentage of good ones to bad ones is like the percentage of everything else. Only a relatively small percentage are good. The rest are consumables for monsters.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time rezzing zerker warriors in dungeons, on the couple of times that I’ve pugged with them anyway. Honestly I’d rather have a relatively survivable ranger than a zerker warrior who doesn’t know what he/she is doing.
I mean, people watch these videos, see these guys do great things, and then try to do them personally. They should have a warning…kids, don’t try this at home. This is for professional zerker warriors. What you guys need is toughness and vitality. lol

people don t care wich class you use….
ANY party starts with 1 guardians and 1-2 warriors…..some needs 2 guards and 3 warriors.
Ele is just “one of the other classes”….
For some strange reason people likes mesmer….that is imho on the line with ELE and “other classes”.
Now wait to see how PvP nerfs will affect PvE….if any of my NON war/guard classes will be nerfed in PvE i will know its time to quit.

I always find it hilarious when people are searching for a specific profession with specific gear. Just yesterday, I did CoF P1 with 2 guild members - I used gw2lfg.com to find the remaining 2 players, having no preference of what profession they played. Meanwhile, some dude was shouting "LF3M Zerk Warriors" in map chat, to get that "perfect run". 10 minutes later, when my party was done with the dungeon, the same guy was still shouting "LF2M Zerk Warriors".
People who search for a specific profession, are clueless baddies. I’m currently level 33 in FotM, and my best runs have been with random profession-setups. I avoid people who search for anything specific (Profession, Skill, AR, Achievements, etc) like the pest, because these people are usually the most clueless ones.

Try with fotm
I go with 2 guard and 2 dps wars
You go without… i think it will need me half the time MINIMUM.
GL to kill vet grawls at 38+ have fun…
Its not a 10% difference its 2-3 or even 5X diffenrence of SUSTAINED DAMAGE.
Is so clear that is the SHAME of the game…
PvE is easy is not an excuse….most PvP players are horribad at PvE (the same is true also).

people who shout zerk warriors have no idea what they are asking for. Most good warriors min-max survivability and know that Zerker gear isnt the best. Knights is the best armor for a warrior.
Also most good warriors go into dungeons with more supportive builds, soldier runes to take advantage of shout condition removal and additional heals which helps the warrior and the party. Or banners with regen which also helps the party. What you probably don’t know whenever a warrior goes 30 points into compassion traits like that their burst damage is not that great. Its still ok but its not anything like Full zerker DD spec. Which really has no survivability at all. Elementalists are better off in the survivability dept than zerker warriors by 10 fold.
Edit: I would take a more supportive Tankish War over a zerker war any day of the week.

Did you completely miss the part where I mentioned that I’m already level 33 in FotM? I’ve ran higher levels than that too, and if you think that Full Zerkers are any good at that level, you’ve been horribly misinformed. Whenever I run with a Full Zerk Warrior, I spend more time ressing him, than actually killing stuff.

I have 7 lvl 80’s and I rightfully disagree. They all do well.
experienced fotm player (not those helped by Others) long knew that fotm is you either are a zerker or a guardian.
Not a case that after many runs i bought a zerker set for my ele…..i was balanced…was not enough.
If you don t understand why its easy:
Mobs/boss hits like truck…you are dead anyway in 1-2 hits.
What you need are invul/shield skills and dps gives you the ability of clearing everything before your defensive skills goes on CD.
Or at least reduce fight duration with your chances to go downed and increase the chances of rally for you and your party.
If you are downed too often is lack of experience.
This is how they designed fotms and dungeons.
I don t care if you get downed, once you hit with 1 single 100B you did more than a party of tanks can do in the Whole fight.
@lafiel disagree as much as you want…
Math is math….see above….when your 100B hits for 50-100.000 and another class tops 15.000 with double the CD we should not even discuss it.
Even Anet agress on war and guards behing ahead by miles in PvE….

I genuinely dislike getting warriors in my CoE runs. Why? Because:
1. Most warriors think too good of themselves and won’t revive a teammate that is laying on their feet. If it’s path 2 or 3 and it’s an alpha path, that also means that that teammate will get hit by both rock corona and ice spike and because a warrior is standing on them he will go down too. But no need to think when you’re the warrior right?
2. Dodging out of rock corona. Mostly only warriors do that because they have infinite dodge. Their rock corona then gets put where they ended the dodge and it goes trough the rock corona aoe that everyone else is in the middle of, so warrior’s rock corona either complicates where you should stand or sometimes downs people
3. greatsword forward charge attack. See point number 2.
However I’m not mean enough to exclude a whole class, because I’m pretty sure that it was just bad luck that I got bad warriors and not that the whole class is played by bad players. Last run that we did it was a ranger that was really bad (no damage output (he literally was botting the dungeon – auto attacking everything and not using any other abilities besides that), always charged first, even though his teammates were great 5 seconds behind him, meaning that he was first to go down, wouldn’t revive anyone and wouldn’t avoid anything) and the warrior was a decent group player. So it all depends on the pug I suppose
Though if anyone will have the guts to put in such LFGs post piccies of what kid of whispers you got from all those warriors. Would be fun to see

Good, you weren’t invited anyway. lol
I am really only familiar with 3 classes for PvE: ele, guard and war. Eles are so kitten in PvE…
Warrior – good survivability, good dps, average support(banners)
Guardian – good survivability, average dps, good support
Ele – low survivability, average dps(being generous here), average support
Clearly warrior is in the god-tier of pve yet Anet still decides to buff them. While ele’s are kitten tier and gets nerfed. I understand the balancing are largely for pvp but they should also take PvE in to consideration.
Sanctum of Rall 04/2013-
I wish each class had its own special niche in the game. Some of them do; like Thieves have PvP, Guardians have FOTM, Eles are said to be good at destroying sieges in WvW at long range. Mesmers are useful all around. And Warriors -well, enough has been said about this class. What about the other classes? The Engineers, Rangers, the Necromancers? I love my necro but I never get to play it anymore because people always want me on my mesmer or guardian.

Find better people to run with. We have plenty of necros, rangers and engineers in my guild and no one ever asks anyone to take anything other than what they want to play.
I’m in a very similar situation to Barbelo. They’re a very nice and friendly guild, but I really wish I could run with the class/build I want. That was one of the major claims of this game before its launch and during all the hype. But I’m honestly finding that my options here and even more limited than they were in WoW.
As of right now I’m looking forward to Elder Scrolls.

ESO is in closed beta. When you buy the game you gain access to it, so really you could just buy it and play it right now.

Oh I don’t feel that at all. WoW is just…wow. I feel that I have more freedom in GW2. And I know my guildmates would let me play whatever class I wanted if I really wanted to, but I feel that it’s my responsibility to bring the “useful” class, especially with the newer players coming into the guild but that’s way out of topic. Guild runs are smooth and great but I love PUGs with all its craziness and diversity (plus it’s a great way to chat with people outside of the guild) but it seems PUGs just want me to be either Guardian or Mesmer. I wanted PUGs to be my chance to use my necromancer and the engineer I’m leveling. Sigh.
WoW certainly has many short-comings, and I’m certainly never going to go back to playing it. But what I mean there is that when you zone into a PUG, it really doesn’t matter what class/spec each player is. They all perform their rolls to a satisfactory level. The question that remains is whether the player can play their class.
There is a large amount of profession/class stacking in this game, and I wish that such a thing was not the case. Like you, I have an 80 necro and she sadly hardly sees the light of day – despite her being one of my favourite toons.
Like I said, I’m looking forward to trying ESO. GW2 tried a lot of great things, and I admire and appreciate what they’ve done, but I just don’t feel that its working yet.

I’m thinking ESO won’t be much different. It takes most MMOs about a year to find their feet. So if you start with ESO when it releases, my guess is you’ll have to wait till it gets to where it needs to be to keep players.
It happened with Rift also.
By that time, Guild Wars 2 will be further along and probably a better game, or at least a game with more end game options.

I agree with that, and I’ll certainly keep an eye on GW2.
Yes. I agree with this times a million, I was kinda “forced” into making a warrior just so I can participate with pugs in dungeons. I think it’s time for them to start feeling the same type of abuse.

With current state of PvP, I honestly don’t know how you can call Warrior “good survivability” and Elementalist “low survivability”.
Or, just make a warrior and join any group you fancy, like i (and most dungeon farmers i know) did.
There are 5 slots, no need to wait months for anet to play the buff&nerf game when you can level to 80 in a week or two playing casually …
Especially considering they will be buffed alot, as they’re bad in spvp and thats all the balance anet cares about.

I went up against a warrior today in SPvP multiple times on my engineer. He was really really really dying to kill me. Eventually he did, after I killed him four times and four of his buddies managed to corner me. lol
Out of the 110 listings on the front page of gw2lfg.com there are only 16 asking for warrior.
You are making a problem where one does not exist.

But not everyone lists every requirement. What about people who take anyone and then kick people for warriors. It happens. We’ve seen several posts about it.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s AS big a problem as most people say it is, but there’s enough talk out there to make it a problem even if it wouldn’t be otherwise.
My solution to the problem is to make sure there are groups that take others who aren’t warriors, right from the start.
If nothing else it would SHOW that it’s not a problem.

is there any experienced players that can clearly says DPS warriors don t make a HUGE impact on a dungeon Group?
No?
Try one of the smart DPS barrier they put in fotm (lets say 40) with and without a war….
Its way more than ridiculous.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
[NERF] does guild dungeon runs just fine ……. and it’s an all engineer guild. If anyone needs a specific class to complete a dungeon they are probably pretty bad at pressing buttons, so you are really better off by them not wanting you to go suffer with them.
It’s [NERF] or nothing!
I prefer they give me one free class change, so i become a warrior and join the in.

I honestly don’t notice any difference. I don’t really care about what classes people use.
But well, I don’t use timer when playing.
lol, oh lordy.
Please do start excluding warriors from your games. I needed a more obvious way to filter out groups which aren’t worth my time to join. xD
I wouldnt join a party asking for only warriors, even though I main a warrior. Plenty of guilds out there you can do 24/7 dungeons with that don’t care what class you are.
[FIRE] Serene Snow, Warrior
Fight prejudice with prejudice?? Ridiculous.
I go out of my way to not join any group that excludes certain professions, newbies or asks for gear-pings.
Also, I just got my warrior to 80! Don’t exclude me! lol
There really needs to be a -1 button for threads like this.
Fighting prejudice with more prejudice is absolutely abominable. Why don’t you consider doing something actually valuable for the community and start groups that allow anyone to join, rather than picking and choosing and being a part of the very problem you complain about?
Let me just remember your name so ill say No everytime you want to group up.Matter of fact,I urge all players to do the same, remember this guys name and dont take him in your partys. To make it better..if you put up a LFG do it like this.. LFG FOTM RUN → Vayne.8563 Need not apply !
Fight fire with fire..with fire….? See how dumb this is ? Drop it…
Seems someone has finally cracked under the pressure. Welcome to the Dark Side.
I think the last few comments were way too harsh. While the principle of “excluding someone” is the same, the situation when viewed as a whole is completely different and not comparable.
The lfg entries with “zerker warrior only” exclude 7 classes and favor one class that has no problem getting a group anyway.
A hypothetical lfg entry with “no warriors” excludes only 1 class, which (see above) has no problem getting a group anyway.
The whole idea is more about making a statement than about excluding warriors, and you all know it, so stop flaming the OP for his idea.
People using belittling wording like whining/qqing" are not taken seriously by me
Same for people posting only to tell others not to post (“deal with it”-posts)
First it would be funny to see how they like it, particularly if lots of people start doing it, but more, it would give everyone else a chance to get in their dungeon runs, without kowtowing to the efficiency slaves.
Because every warrior is an efficiency slave.

Kind regard’s
I was just thinking about this, and you know, I hardly ever run a dungeon WITH a warrior. Almost never. Oh, ocassionally here and there, but they’re the real exception to the rule. And then I thought about it….
Why not make dungeon groups and exclude warriors from them. Just post something on gw2lfg.com that looks like this.
Want to run SE Path 1…warriors need not apply!

I think it’s a good move.
I think it’s a great idea. It might actually send a message where it’s needed to the Devs to show them we’re tired of the wide spread elitist nonsense, we want groups without issues, and we want our classes properly balanced so this kind of virtual bigotry doesn’t continue.
