Finally New Armors for Guild Wars 2
Because reasons.
I too would want to see some of the old armors make a comeback. We can only wait and hope.
just started gw1 a week ago and i don’t know how to power level through so i’m just using whatever armor i can get for each mission.. and clipping? my gw1 character clips just from doing some of the standard game motions.. not on my ssd right now, but here is my gw2 heavy looking mage armors.. quite pleased with them, sometimes get clipping with backpieces or shoulder armor, but what can you do really.. /shrug
I’m still for the return of all of the dangle earrings. Yeah, GW1 skins would look great in the new engine.
1k fem ele luxon is my absolute fav.
I once met this caster person in LA and almost cried seeing how her wear resembled the all the rage kurzick armor mix for the ritualist. Never whisped her though
I think the reason Anet cant make armours like that is because they approach the vast majority of their armour sets with race in mind, personally I think its a mistake but they’re intent on cutting corners and saving costs when it comes to armour design and making a 1 size fits all design.
I also just logged into my gw1 acc, was refreshing to see all the armour sets I had amassed, and how they compare to gw2’s direction of armour design, hope to post em a little later on.
Understand, “porting” armors from the old game is not trivial. They were designed to fit on the old human models, and even just moving them to the new human models would involve a lot of work to adjust them, then a lot more work if they wanted to update them with higher quality models and textures, then a lot more work to fit them on the other races. They could make those armors, or they come make totally new armors, it would take almost the same amount of work.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
Why gw1 females have such long necks?
Complaining about clipping in GW2 while referencing GW1 is quite silly. Despite the fact that GW1 only had one race to build their armors for, the clipping there is quite massive, after almost 10 years.
And just porting armors over doesn’t really work either, seeing as they would have to completely rebuild them and change them to fit all races, which is quite large amount of work.

I think having Charr as a playable race was the biggest failure ANet made in regards
of creating new armor. At least i have the feeling we would have much more skins
now if they didn’t had to bother with the Charr.

Or Asura or Norn.
The only ones that actually have the same physics as humans are the Sylvari more or less. Sure Norn are quite similar, but they still need to work on them on their own rather than just increasing the size of the human armors.

I agree with Ohoni, it is not an easy thing for devs to do. Creating any armour, be it new or remodeled from other games, is a very tricky and time consuming task. That said though, I really would like to see some more of the old favourites added to the game, I miss my Kurzick warrior armour and Imperial assassin armour.
I would also like to see more variety in terms of the style of armours for each armour type. For example, there are very few non-coat armours for medium armour. There are some, but it is predominantly coats, which I dislike. I have found a look I like, so it am not unhappy, but more variety and options are always a good thing when it comes to customizing your look.
I am a big mix & match type of player, as I dislike being a different coloured version of everyone else, so I tend to try and match different sets together. But that is not always an easy thing to do, and not always an easy thing for devs to design for. But I think it would make more people happy if they could design armour with mix & matching in mind. And people are obviously crying out for more GW1 skins.
Clipping fun!
The armor “issue” in GW2 is one of the bigger problems I have with this game. I consider earning said armor sets and/or mix matching pieces to be part of the character building process; as well as something to strive for in the “end game”.
Anyway, the following is me admitting to Monday Morning Quarterbacking; so take it for what you will -
For me, one of the most interesting selling points of GW2 was the comments towards End Game being the entire game. To me, that meant not having to wait 24 months of grinding out raids to “finish” a character. It meant, within a short period of time, my character would be complete (with lore fitting armor and weapons plus the skills the character would use) and therefore open to explore the world AS the character I envisioned. – Much like taking a Canthan Character out of Cantha and into Elona or Ascalon in GW1. They were mostly complete minus a few skills I might pick up in other places, but they were now “complete”. The long slog of grind to complete the character is what drove me away from other MMOs.
It is of my opinion Anet should have focused on the comments in Beta towards lack of diversity in armor and set out to release a new set each month for one of the races. The next month, a new set for a different race and so on. The whole one design fits all kills immersion for me and looks cheap (again, IMO) — and seeing a norn wear human armor still just kills me inside.
The second thing Anet should have done (Again, just my opinion) is stay away from putting content in the gem shop. Content should be IN the game, not in the Gem Shop. Armor is content and is part of the character building process. Outifts? Outfits I can see in the Gem Shop, but not armor designs.
Lastly, they should have stuck with the expansion model where new content (including, yes more armor and weapons) came in huge chunks rather than baby sized sippy cups. I think the best description I can come up with at this point towards the content releases is:
“They been showing us the vending machines for two years now and the chips are getting stale. Show me the banquet table. I’m hungry.”

So you want even less armor choices ? Now we need 6 different Armor models for
a new set, for heavy, medium and light for female and male ..
And you want that they should create 30 models for every set ? So in the end we get
maybe one complete set every year .. bad idea.
15 different

While I agree that clipping is nothing new with Anet.
I am frustrated that I don’t show my ascended quiver because it clips so badly.
I think that GW2 has far worse clipping issues that GW1, although that might be because of the races.

Because what armors would they release when cantha and Elona comes out?
I love love love the Ritualist armor- all of it, We need more ritualist like armor for GW2
I just wish the armors were profession oriented, like GW1 had… if you were a heavy armor & a warrior, you wouldn’t wear the same armor as a Paragon – or if you were a Necromancer, you wouldn’t have the same armor as an Elementalist or Mesmer
That was one of my biggest hopes when GW2 1st came out, but I was sorely let down- GW1 definately had waaaaaaay better armors & much more variety

So true about clipping in GW1 it was awful and with capes it was even worse. Here is one clipping problem on Elite cabalist armor – it is dreadful. I had my toon sit so it can be seen better.

For Elona, I really really hope for Vabbian or Ancient, or both. I guess Sunspear armor is there too. Cantha, as much as I loved kurzick and luxon sets, I don’t think those could return without luxons and kurzicks, unless there was a historical society to keep track of it, so that really leaves Canthan armor, which isn’t bad.
Edit: Sunspear armor isn’t bad actually.
Most misleading title ever. Not s single new armour piece in sight anywhere.

But at least the art is done for the old models.
And at least you know a good amount of people would buy them just because they’re the old armors from GW1.

That was on purpose :P
At least Anet does not need to look for new ideas – there are already plenty of them in gw1.
And to all who complain about the comparison between gw1 and 2 concerning clipping: it’s not silly because gw2 is the sequel, released several years later with much better hardware and we all learned alot of new things in this time. I guess that should also count for Anet.
To say this clearly: We all know that it is hard work to create and integrate more than one armor into the game. But new skins and stuff do have an effect for EVERY player. To bring in new armors is awesome for everyone ‘cause it doesn’t matter if you play pve, pvp or wvw…
The reason why they’re not doing this may be the gem shop:
Less armor-variety in free content = more sales in the gem shop. It’s business!

What have you been smoking? Charr can’t hold GW2 armour design back by requiring more attention to design for thier physiology simply because GW2 armour design almost never designs for their physiology. Look at the concept armour for GW2 – it’s always done on humans because that’s what armour in GW2 is designed for. After they’ve conceptualised the armour for humans, they stretch it to fit charr physiology and a lot of the time it looks ridiculous. Don’t start looking for armour that clips with the tail because it will begin to drive you insane once you notice it, including charr racial armour (their own armour set wasn’t properly designed to account for their tail).
Charr posture is different from humans (and every other race for that matter, but humans is all that matters because they are the base race for armour design) so that also makes a lot of sets look silly. Look at the physiology of charr legs/feet and human legs/feet and see the ridiculous impact that has on boots for the charr race. On humans, boots will often come up to around the knee but on charr the boot is squished and looks strange because charr legs are bent in a neutral position while human legs are straight.
I agree that having charr as a playable race is one of the bigger failures, not because the race holds back armour design but because ArenaNet has consistently (and increasingly) failed to design armour that suits the aesthetics of a beast race that doesn’t use human physiology. ArenaNet implements charr armour as though they are humans with fur and animal heads instead of evolved beasts that still have beast-like features, physiology and posture.
Similar to how the sylvari had a redesign before the game launched, I think ArenaNet needs to take another deep look at how armour looks on a charr’s body (unlike humans, sylvari and norn it’s just one set to design/adjust due to non-gendered armours) and hit a home run with the game’s expansion where they will have a chance to implement several new armour sets that aren’t just stretched human clothes. It’s one of the reasons I’m keen for tengu as a race – their posture and physiology are similar to the charr and hopefully designing for them increase the value of designing armour for non-human body types.

This is the reason why I don’t play Charr. The whole class seems unfinished to me concerning many armor skins and the lore capability…
I cannot remember reading a statement of the devs about it but the thing you said is probably the same problem that I wanted to state out with this topic:
The devs don’t have the time (or money or both) and are under-staffed. So they cannot add new armors or make changes to the existing ones. It has to be horrible as they don’t even have the time to add the “lost armors” (= tribal armor etc) back into the game (see this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_set#Unobtainable_armor).
I wonder if this could change if they make an addon so they can invest more in human resources :P
I would definitely buy an addon if they finally added armors, fixed at least some of that clipping (there are even other ideas to “avoid” it with some tricks http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/21qmrx/toggle_option_to_hide_shoes/ but of course you cannot hide your whole armor xD), make new maps and new two new classes… The way it is now Gw2 seems to be a blind alley.
I just don’t understand what problems people with clipping have. First, it’s nearly impossible to prevent this. Especially with so many armors and races. I really don’t know but it seems the only game people complain about this. Play WoW, your cape clips through the mount and the stool you sit on, but who cares? For me it’s just a part of RPGs generally and don’t see it as a ‘faulty’ feature, it’s just normal.
You guys should be a bit less autistic towards armor perfection. It’s really ridiculous, we have a lot and much bigger problems with this game now…
‘would of been’ —> wrong

…then vanity what is a huge part of the end game. Dont take that nice thing away, we dont got much end game so leave atleast that.
On the whole I think the art direction for GW2 isn’t very good. I don’t like the new armor designs, and wish they would bring back some of the excellent designs from the past…. such as this one.
