It was quite difficult. After about 50-80 tries of practice I got it down. I was warrior full zerk using GS axe/sw with disc banner, doylak and stamina signet. Took 12 min. I know ppl do it faster but I’m proud at just being able to solo

Oh yeah haha sometimes I would vent on guild chat bout how frustrated I was at solo-ing arah but after practice it gets easy. It’s really just for my own personal challenge i like trying to practice to solo things haha.

Great job!!! I loved the feeling when he first fell at my feet. I danced around my apartment irl. My gf looked at me quite strangely that afternoon.

And evening.

And next day.

Actually, she always looks at me strangely. nvm.

First off congrats. It isnt easy to do so thats a big achievement.

However… the fact that its possible on multiple different classes does open the debate on WHY its possible. Predictable mobs are the bain of any game and for a boss such as Lupi to be solo’d does tell you a lot about the state on enemy AI in GW2.

The reason it’s possible is because players put the time in to it and have the skill to do so, it’s nothing to do with badly designed AI before you open up that hornet’s nest.

You can solo bosses in every single MMO ever.

Not in those where boss enemies have 5 times your stats, can’t be cc’d/snared, are always faster than you and have like 3 times the melee range(afaik almost all kittenty trinity games are like this).

GW2 player characters are either are super strong or enemies are too weak.

So because in ‘every’ MMO (im guessing youve played them all to know this) you can solo bosses that means every MMO going forward has to be the same? How are games meant to evolve if you keep giving excuses based on what other games have done in the past?

Dynamic AI is, I presume, a complicated, time consuming and expensive thing to introduce to a game. But companies can do better than mobs that just cycle through attacks based on conditions such as time and HP remaining. Surely it cant be hard to introduce some random factors into the fights? Random boss attacks that mean you have to think on your feet and be quick about it, random environmental changes causing the playable area to change size and shape….both together! That would surely not break the bank and would create exciting encounters that you would be proud to tell others about.

Its great for you that you have the knowledge on how to solo a boss such as Lupi. But its not exactly showing the game in a good light.

First off, gratz OP

It doesn’t reflect badly on the game, it reflects positively on the player.

There isn’t an issue when multiple builds/classes can solo a boss. There is an issue when any random casual can.

When you’ve done everything worth doing and you want to solo encounters which 99.9% of players can’t do, why should you basically be locked out of doing so because the boss is just that stupidly strong that you need someone else?

You should be able, with adequate preparation to solo every single fight in the game. If this means using endurance regen food, energy sigils, weapons with blocks/reflects/evades, vigour, etc. then so be it – you shouldn’t just be flat out locked from being able to kill a boss (player requirement bosses like the legendary shoggroth just annoy the hell out of me).

The fact of the matter is, it’s an extremely minor elite who are going to be able to pull this off, it doesn’t reflect badly on a game at all if only a small crack group of hardcores can solo boss fights, it only reflects badly if any random idiot can, which luckily isn’t the case for a lot of bosses.

Did you ever solo The Marionette?

Haha yeah I couldn’t keep him on the wall either so I just drew him in the middle and still just focused on staying under his character model.

As for the above statements I feel the same as regards to with enough practice and preparation you should be able to solo. The problem lies when everyone can solo a boss by mashing 1 on the keyboard then there’s no challenge.

I actually don’t care about selling arah paths or anything. It’s just a personal challenge and a change of pace from group events. I feel it keeps your skills sharp.

Likewise I’m terrible at some honor of the waves paths. Because I almost never do that dungeon. Yet I’m sure there’s players who can solo it easy. Just depends on what you wish to invest time into learning and what makes the game fun.

I don’t quite follow your logic; if there is no predictability or strategy involved, then going in with a group would require no planning, coordination, or research. It would just be a mob of people winning through a death of a thousand cuts. I haven’t taken on Lupi (group or solo), so I don’t know the details, but bosses I’ve raided in other games always had strategic and tactical elements that had to be learned and practiced.

I personally like it when group content can be soloed with preparation and practice; it’s completely optional and allows players so inclined to set a goal for themselves that isn’t prescribed by the game. I learned a great deal about my class when I soloed a boss in another game (WoW) because I had to do lots of research on gear and builds. It shouldn’t be easy, but making it artificially impossible doesn’t make sense either unless you want a game that forces people to play in groups, but doesn’t actually require tactics.

(Side musing: would a PvE boss with genetic algorithms end up like PvP?)

You claim that ‘99.9% of players cannot solo a boss like Lupi’ (paraphrasing here). I’ll wager that a large percentage could if they learnt how to and spent time practicing. Lupi has set stages and skills he cycles through. The same is true for every mob in the game as far as I am aware. Learn what he is going to do, when he’s going to do it and how to counter it and thats it. There is no random element that takes skill, cunning and a smart mind to counter.

I applaud the OP for having the dedication to spend time to learn how to solo Lupi so dont think that im trying to take that away. Im merely saying that in the grand scheme of things GW2 boss encounters arent designed at all well.

EDIT: For those that think id like bosses to not be solo’able youre reading between the lines. Im saying that boss AI in GW2 makes it a hell of a lot easier than if the encounters were designed to truly challenge the most skillful of players. Unpredictability, changing environments, added minions, bosses that react to what the player is doing and where the player is positioned…. even just a subset of these would create a situation where the player has to think and react on a second-by-second basis. This would be a true test of player skill.

I can’t speak Italian. If I spent time practicing, I could.

The point is, a lot of people can’t solo him – whether they could with practice is irrelevant – the fact is that at this moment in time, most people can’t do it – and most people have no interest in doing it.

There is no random element that takes skill, cunning and a smart mind to counter.

If you don’t think there’s RNG to Lupicus, I doubt you’ve even fought him. Hell, you can actually get to the point where if you can solo him fast enough you’re literally just rolling for good RNG each time you attempt for a time faster than your previous.

Im merely saying that in the grand scheme of things GW2 boss encounters arent designed at all well.

And I’m saying that the “people can solo therefore the boss is bad” arguments are stupid because it’s a miniscule number of people who are even capable of doing that in the first place.

EDIT: For those that think id like bosses to not be solo’able youre reading between the lines. I really doubt that. Just because we find it easy and everyone in our guilds can solo doesn’t mean your average player can in the slightest.
