The ‘2 dailies per day’ brigade seem to forget that USA is not the whole world, and that timezones restrict EU server players to daily= 1 day. We don’t have that nice option of doing 2 dailies today and chilling out tomorrow. If the daily conveniently reset at 7pm for me i’d be well chuffed, instead of a reset at midnight when i’m asleep.

I wouldn’t object to having the option of doing 3 dailies’ worth of tasks in 1 day- it would probably become tedious but if i could condense a weeks’ worth of dailies into 2 days of activities i can see the appeal for those with odd schedules.

Ahhh yeah. This was all a good read and what have you but in the end, if you’re casual, you’re not really going to care if you have best in slot. You’ll have what is best for you or what looks best. Hell, my wife saw the cat with the hat, whatever it’s called, so now when she does do her dailies (which usually takes 30 minutes at most for us) everything earned is being saved for that kitten cat.

Does she need it? Will it help her stats? No and not at all. But does she WANT it? Oh yes. Just as soon as I saw the Quaggan backpack was coming I knew she’d have it as soon as she logged in and guess what, she does. She loves it. I play every day and got my exotics and karma all very fast but I’ve yet to step into any dungeon. I was in the beta, pre-ordered the collector edition of the game for the neato stuff and still only have 99% world completion. Curse you eternal battlegrounds!

But I doubt I’ll ever have a legendary and I don’t see myself ever finishing my story as the last part, where I am, seems to need a group. Rambling here I guess but so what? My view on all this is very very simple. It’s a game. Play it for fun. If you’re hardcore stats or casual keep it simple and keep it fun. I’ve heard of people spending $100s on gems to turn to gold to help with legendary or whatever. Ok. I love the skins on them too but it’s just not worth the money or time to me. Though I would like one, I don’t play with it as a goal.

People that have the time to play all the time should get their ‘rewards’ for it. People that have less time, well, we’ll get what we get. Seems to me if you only work 1 hour, you shouldn’t expect to get the same perks as someone that works 10 or 15. Like people trying to smash to the next level cap as soon as possible. What’s the rush?

I make time for friends and family and game time and it’s all good and I don’t care who gets what faster in game. It’s fun. When it stops being fun, I’ll just be gone. No quitting post or drama. Just gone. I like the system and wish the monthlies didn’t need dungeons or WvW as they don’t get completed by me because of that, but I don’t care that others do manage it. So long as they had fun.

Does this need a TL,DR? If so… it’s a game. It’s supposed to be fun. Why suffer gear envy if you’re really a casual anyway? People that can put in many many hours will naturally have the “better” stuff. Have fun here or somewhere else and that’s all that matters. Life’s too short.

Sorry, it’s not a brigade, just me repeating it . . . and no, sorry, I do often forget not everyone is in my time zone. I actually have friends over so many it just kinda blurs and if someone tells me “It’s 3am here” when I’m seeing 6pm on my clock I just kind of sheepishly go “oops”.

Much like I’m about to do now. Oops.

Rewards come with time. Why the math lesson? 60 days for a relatively simple task (with other benefits) doesnt seem like a big deal to me. Exotics are virtually as good.

Uncle Salty, your solution of being able to do 3 days worth of dailies would still give problems to a subset of the population. What about the player that is only able to play 1 hour every 3 days? They don’t have the time to finish all 3 dailies so, according to you, they are “missing” dailies that they could be getting and, thus, will take much longer to achieve the laurels necessary for their first amulet. Poor player Should the system be changed for that person? If you answer no, why not?

There will always be someone that won’t be satisfied with a given system. Always.
So you build a system that satisfies most of the population, so you set up some arbitrary cut-off point to what lengths you’ll go to satisfy the most persons. So dunno, in this case I’d look at the number of players and how many dailies they do per week/month, stuff like that. If number of dailies done on average per unique player done was low (idk 15 out of 30 per month – here’s the arbitrary part) I’d change the system so dailies can add up for 2-3 days.
Hell, it doesn’t effect players that do dailies religiously and it helps the people that can’t/forget/whatever do them all at once every few days…hm, even if you do them daily you can then have a choice when to bother and not be forced to do them every darn day.

So no idea why people are even against this. Some kind of reverse entitlement :P

The problem is that you also have to realize that the purpose of the dailies is not exclusively for the players’ benefit. Anet is getting something out of it as well. Being a non-subscription game, their main way to increase profit is through the cash-shop. In order to increase cash-shop sales, they need to get more people to visit the cash-shop. In order to get more people to visit the cash-shop, they need more people playing daily. So there you have your dailies. I have accepted this. I have accepted that the dailies are not exclusively for my own benefit. And I am OK with that.

Actually, there’s a side-effect of the dailies that does benefit me (aside from the rewards). If there are more players logging in daily, I have more chances of being able to complete content that requires more players (e.g., dungeons, fractals, etc.). I’m also OK with this.

I think a poster mentioned this before, and I agree that it comes down to acceptance. Those that accept the current system for what it is (a somewhat dual beneficial system) seem to be the ones defending it. Those that are choosing not to accept the current system (for whatever reasons) are the ones advocating for change.

you do dailies, you get laurels.
otherwise, you do not get laurels.

why is it so hard to understand?

With all the hue and cry for all the unnecessary things out there, why isn’t this a concern for any of you casuals or players who log in irregularly?

I complained 4 days ago as well as asked a question that went unanswered.

Will there be better more accessible ways for the casual player to get the best gear in the future or will the rest of the ascended armor and weapons be on the same system where the player that logs in the most days and does their daily’s and monthly’s gets the advantage?

I was first told to get off my cross, than something about logging in and wanting everything now, until finally an actual poster I found had written a well thought out and constructive reply.

Eh, to be fair he has a point.

Then again, Ascended is supposed to be a grind. It was an attempt to fill a “gap” between Exotics and Legendary, and it was meant to help sate the hardcore grinders while still being accessible to casual players. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do either of those things in its current form: too much grind for casuals, and too little for any hardcore player.

Honestly, I would love the laurel system if it was for aesthetic items or convenience items only (ascended items could be considered convenience if there was multiple avenues for gaining them). If you want to earn 100 laurels in a 100 days or less for a mini pet or a gear skin that’s awesome, but seeing as there is only so many laurels you can earn in a year and then telling people that the more dedicated are more deserving for something like non aesthetic gear is going in a direction I do not find fun.

It is a sensitive topic. How can’t it be when this games hype was based off of casual players being able to obtain the best in slot junk looking gear within a reasonable means? I guess this is vertical progression.
